cold climate poeple, I need ideas - Page 2

I live in Montana. As a gothic model, the way to look best is black leather and furs, buahaha. I know, it sounds awful, but it does really have its purpose. I also suggest layering, I find winter is my favourite season for wearing cool goth stuff without dieing of heat. I wear layered skirts, A long sleeved black and grey striped cotton top, with a short sleaved lacey black top over it and then maybe a nice little sweater with faux fur.

Before my hospital job ended (sigh. Saw that coming), I stopped at R@te-A@d and bought a pair of soft black knit fingerless gloves similar to these:

Considering I now am back to working on-call temp, and typing/editing reports at home, while doing serious heat/finance conservation (and looking for a smaller, cheaper place), both really come in handy. I am wearing the gloves right now. What's cool about the gloves is that they convert to mittens, so when I am on the road I can keep my hands warm, and when I am working at home I can flip the covers back and convert them to fingerless gloves. Considering we are having ice storms, the peruvian-style hat really comes in handy.

I have one of these. If shut completely, it keeps the wind out and the body warm. Also, works in warmer times too as you can take out the fur "vest" placed inside, and you can shut it in a lighter manner as to let wind in. Also, padding your undies with hot water bottles supposedly helps too.

Yes we have a fireplace. It's tiny, gas log only and tucked way into the corner of the room. It sucks but it's the first one we've ever had so we both were too stoked at the moment (house tour) to care

I've resorted to going for my grungy punk side of fashion lately and lots of layers.

By the way when my Dad + I took my daughter sledding a few days ago I swear I looked like a charred marshmallow. I think I have a nice pic of if. Will post in the appropriate thread if it's found.

Can't type for shit. Must drink my coffee.

If you're going to be outside in below freezing temperatures, wear layers. Thermals go great as a first layer, and you don't really have to go for the waffle one's (unless you like waffle

). There are several different things you can use instead of the traditional kind, like leggings and a tank top.

The rest of the layers are easy. Pants/skirts shirts... whatnot.

And if you're in a SUPER cold place, don't sweat while you're outside if you can help it, it can actually lower your body temperature and make you more susceptible to hypothermia.

I used to live up in Anchorage AK so I know what the 'rules' are for dressing warm. Been trying to find inspiration to shake up the wardrobe a bit. Feels like I've been wearing the same crap for 10 years or more. Time to window shop and venture into the world of DIY i guess.

By the way, where in CO are you? =)
