I can't really say I hate Valentine's day but it does annoy me, I'm nearly 22 and I've never had a girlfriend, not even come close and I can't help doubting that I ever will. I can stop myself thinking about that the rest of the year but Valentine's day, not so much.

Valentines Day is unimaginative and dull.

As a friend rather wisely said this morning and made me laugh, 'Valentines Day makes one half of the nation depressed and the other bloody spoilt'.

I agree with ticklestickle.

It bugs me that Valentine's day, that is just another day in the calendar year would make you feel this way, because you are such a lovely person. If you were anywhere close, I'd have made sure you had a great Valentine's day.

I'm usually miserable and alone on this holiday. Christmas typically ends up like that too.

However, reading this thread is inspiring me to take a trip to a nearby Newbury Comics shop and bring a certain young lady some candy. If I can't cheer myself up, I may as well confuse the hell out of a stranger.

I spent (and am still spending) my Valentine's day working on a massive, massively annoying essay about manuscripts from about 1390. It's due tomorrow. The manuscripts would be so funny and amusing to look at if I didn't have to write a 10-page essay about them....

I have never recieved anything on this crappy day and frankly I never will. So I just go home EVERY VD and crank Black Flag. That always makes me happy.

Surprisingly I've never felt emotionally affected by Valentine's Day. To me it's just another commercialized holiday, whose real meaning was lost decades ago. It's nice to receive things--don't get me wrong--but it's also not a big deal if you don't. I mean, this Valentine's Day was, literally, the first Valentine's Day I ever got anything. My friends gave me bits of candy, a few hugs, and we joked around--and that suited me just fine.

Who needs candy and flowers when you've got awesome friends to share the holiday with? :D
