I am a tad tired of seeing Mr. Depp and Ms. Bonham Carter in all of Tim Burton's films. However, there are many fine names in that cast list. Most interesting. Perhaps it shall merit a look.

'ere 'ere! I looked at Mia (the girl playing alice) and she is simply a doll! I want to squeeze her to pieces!

Renatus 03-31-2009 03:29 PM

Ms. Carter actualy sort of looks like one of my old teachers. However I am quite looking forward to seeing Chirstopher Lee as the Jabberwock, I just hope for his sake he remembers to look out for that vorpal blade.

Mealla 03-31-2009 03:38 PM

I am anxiously awaiting this film. Yes, Johnny Depp is in a lot of Tim Burton movies, but I've been downright obsessed with Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Through the Looking Glass, and much of what they have spawned for years. The only downside to this is now everyone and their mother will now also be into all the "Alice in Wonderland" craze, much like pirates became insanely popular and overdone after the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, and Hawt Goffic will be carrying all sorts of related merchandise so baby bats everywhere can express their orgasms for Tim Burton, or if they had a lick of since, Lewis Carroll. Alas.

Pineapple_Juice 03-31-2009 03:43 PM

This idea's been in production since AGES ago. I'm really excited it's finally coming out.

Sinjob 03-31-2009 04:25 PM

Stephen Fry-Chesire Cat

Heh. Nice choice. And I second seeing Christopher Lee as the amazing jabberwock!

Wouldn't it be Mrs. Since although she kept her last name, she's married to Mr. Burton?

I'm not usually a fan of Tim Burton movies, but I'll go just to see Stephen Fry as a cat.

I don't think I'll be able to take Christopher Lee seriously though. I'll keep picturing him as Count Dooku.

I'm worried though. According to this it will be a mix of CGI and Live Action. I really don't want to see another Beowulf.

Sir Canvas Corpsey 03-31-2009 05:07 PM

I read Johnny Depp, and then i read he was playing the Mad Hatter and I wanted to fucking kill something! I hate hate hate Johnny Depp.

Bottom-line, he's not as fucking fantastic as everyone says he is and I'm fucking sick of it and this will NOT help the situation.

Ah well I'm afraid I must apologize for that mistake then, I was simply reading the name off of Havelock's post, I had no idea she was wed to the director.

Also I didn't notice that Stephen Fry would be in this, in which case it makes this movie a must see for me. Trust me when somthing is a must see for me it is a big deal since with my running average I am lucky to see a movie in theatres every two years.

Pineapple_Juice 03-31-2009 11:22 PM

Bonham Carter is my secret lover. I'd seriously grow a dick if I was guaranteed a shag with that woman.

GTFO!

On topic, I like Tim Burton and am surprised what he'll make of the story, but I'm also getting sick of seeing Depp and Bonham Carter in every bleeding picture of his.

Although I was pleasantly surprised with Bonham Carter's performance in Sweeny Todd, it was one of the films few redeeming features.

Fuck that! Beowulf was a complete shitfest of a "movie", I felt like wanting to vomit my organs out after seeing that piece of Hollywood garbage. The contrasting images throughout was just annoying. Can't even believe Gaiman was associated with that.

I gotta cross my fingers on this one.

a morbid curiosity 04-01-2009 05:57 AM

I'll see this, because I've heard a lot about it, and apparently he's doing some crazy experimental animation thing.
But then again, Tim Burton always seems to have lots of crazy ideas for big ambitious projects that never quite work.

zebra 04-01-2009 06:37 AM

I'm just glad this is coming out now and not when I was little. Its definitely not sticking to the book and I was something of an AiW purist when I was like 11. Still looks good, the girl playing Alice is cute, but I'm seriously wondering why they have a boat on the set.

I know and it's been confused quite a number of times with the rumored movie adaptation of American McGee's Alice. I also wonder when that's coming out.

Tam Li Hua 04-01-2009 07:52 AM

Very much looking forward to it. =)

AngelikDemonik 04-01-2009 08:24 AM

Yep, but mainly because Cyber Trybe's cover of "White Rabbit" in going to be in the movie....and my boyfriend is technically a member of them =) That, and they fix my car for practically nothing when I was in that bad accident.

Minyaliel 04-01-2009 10:40 AM

Oh God, yes. I bumped around like a kid on too much sugar when I stumbled across it on IMDB for the first time. Can´t wait to see what he does with it.

Beowulf 04-01-2009 11:03 AM

I`ll be looking forwards to seeing it, I`ve always enjoyed Tim Burtons work as his films and visual style was a big inspiration for me when I was a film student studying animation !!!.

Here is some more information on the film ...

I am, naturally, looking very forward to this.
Especially Stephen Fry.

Pyre 04-01-2009 12:35 PM

In agreement with other members, I, too, am sick of seeing Depp and Carter in all of Burton's recent movies. I like them both, but I think being casted over and over again is absolute overkill.

It's too bad I don't see the Mock Turtle on the list of characters. Despite being quite the boring character (as I found many, unfortunately, were), I did once have a dream that he appeared in, so I took a special liking to him, although his character did wish to kill me.

a morbid curiosity 04-01-2009 01:11 PM

^ I didn't notice that! Aw, man. The Mock Turtle's great.

Mr E Nigma 04-01-2009 06:44 PM

I think Depp is a good actor. Not an insanely amazingly fantastic actor. But I will say I do think he deserves credit as a good actor.

And as far as them always being in Burton movies...

Depp has only really been in like.. half of them. So that's a bit of an exaggeration.

And Carter hasn't been in nearly the same amount...

Lord Whiskerton 07-24-2009 05:41 PM

Looks promising. I always took satisfaction in the dark undertones of the original story of "Alice in Wonderland", just as other fairytales we grew up with that always had happy endings, but had different endings in the original stories.

For example: In "The Little Mermaid", the mermaid did not end up with the prince, as he had ended up with a temple maiden. The mermaid ended up as sea foam ceasing to exist, but was resurrected as a sky spirit.

I think I might dress up as the Cheshire Cat for halloween, or perhaps randomly. I've been looking up makeup stuff on youtube. :P

Beneath the Shadows 07-24-2009 10:42 PM

Big deal. Johnny Depp's an okay actor, but he's not all that great. And as for Tim Burton, his appeal has grown quite stagnant over the years. I've not seen much concerning the film, only a few images, but what I've seen so far has left me less than impressed.

alyroi360 07-25-2009 12:14 PM

Can't wait to see it, I love tim burton's work. yay nightmares. They're much more interesting. :)

XxBloodyrosexX 07-25-2009 01:41 PM

I'm exited for this movie. My friend is über hyper too, she loves Alice in Wonderland and is obsessed with the mad hatter. She's going to wear her female mad hatter costume; she's so cute!! :)

Makaab 07-25-2009 03:51 PM

I just watched the trailer for this today.
After seeing the production stills i was fine about it.
After seeing Depp as The Mad Hatter,i was not fine about it.
Then,I watched the trailer.
Now im fine about it again.

Beneath the Shadows 07-26-2009 05:53 PM

I finally got around to seeing the trailer. I was already less than impressed. My opinion of this project has sunk even lower. The scenery and landscapes are nice, if run-of-the-mill. If this movie was coming from just about anyone other than Tim Burton, run-of-the-mill would probably work just fine, but coming from Burton one expects someone that's more than just run-of-the-mill. Then we have live-action characters, which is fine, especially considering the people playing them (with one exception). But, amongst these live-action characters are horribly generic-looking CGI characters. It would be fine if they looked realistic, but twisted in such a way as you'd expect from this story, but no, they look like something you'd expect from a Shrek movie if the CGI artists did as little work as possible. The over-all look of the movie has me saying "what the fuck?" And not in a good way. And, finally, there's Johnny Depp. The trailer doesn't show much of him at all, but if what it does show is any indication, then Depp is quite simply the wrong person for the role of the Mad Hatter.

Underwater Ophelia 07-26-2009 06:22 PM

I think it looks good. I think Depp is a brilliant character actor, the music pleases me, and the scenery looks really bright and stimulating.

Thumbs up.

VulpineNinja 08-30-2009 12:11 PM

I love both Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. Tim Burton really knows how to make a Children's story turn goth, without making it look too scary for kids (like Nightmare Before Christmas). And I love Depp for his versatility.

Mad Hatter seems to have a big role there... but I'm kinda hoping that Burton's version stays true to the original story because the Disney's version is a bit too happy-go-lucky.

The trailer isn't too impressive though. not even the music. Hopefully they can pull off better ones in the future. I don't want my two favourite celebs to be a disappointment.

Now, that's a film I'd like to see. Gameplay wasn't terribly fun, but I loved its aesthetic.

DepthsofSpace 08-30-2009 05:31 PM

I am excited to see it, though I really rather like the look of '9'.

I'm most interested in seeing Christopher Lee and Stephen Fry. I really like both actors and am interested to see what they do inside a Burton film.

gothicusmaximus 08-30-2009 05:35 PM

Tim Burton's aesthetic is so trite that I can already extrapolate the entire movie, frame by frame, from the director and title.

αρнσтι˘ єι∂σℓση 08-30-2009 05:36 PM

Tim Burton is a tod ( Meaning: super awesome faggy person ) Still, he might never exceed himself after Nightmare before Christmas, Jack Skellington is a major character.

Alan 08-30-2009 06:23 PM

He wants to make a movie of 1984.
I like Burton overall, but how the fuck is he going to make 1984?!
Will Big Brother have a skinny tuxedo?
Will Winston break into song about destroying the system?
Will the totalitarian architecture have fancy spirals everywhere?
Will the proles be proficient in swing?

Word.

Tim Burton fucks up everytime he gets a hold of the whole contract. NBC wasn't even his creation, he just directed and threw together some sketches.
Everything he touches these days turns to shit. He'll find a way to make it reasonably charming for one viewing and one viewing only ...if even.

Though I do like how Helen Bohem Carter's Queen of Hearts looks as if she's searching for the brick she lost years ago 'Find my stash! I need a fucking hit!!' haha

I know but I enjoyed the game anyway. I'm actually playing it again in "Nightmare" mode; I think the first time I played it was Medium or Hard. Anyway, there doesn't seem to be any difference with "nightmare" and the other difficulty modes.

Red Menace 08-31-2009 02:31 AM

Is it such a terrible thing that I'm not a Tim Burton fan? His films are very hit-or-miss for me. Sometimes he gets it pretty much right (Beetlejuice, Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow) but when he gets it wrong...

I think he can be a very self-indulgent director. Edward Scissorhands was crap. I quite liked The Nightmare Before Christmas - I saw it in the cinema when it came out - but I can't imagine watching it again more than very occasionally.

In any event, I am not hugely excited about this forthcoming release. I have no doubt it will be pretty, but will it be watchable?

The Divine Ms. M 08-31-2009 02:42 AM

I must say I'm looking forward to this as I like both Alice & Tim Burton. But how about Alan Richman as the caterpillar?! Brilliant! I can already hear him..."whooo arrrre youuuuu?"

I have a feeling that Johnny Depp will be cast in the role of Winston. Heh.
