Gothicana.com - your new Google!

Gothicana.com is a new Gothic / Alternative Directory and search engine which you can submit your URLs to the relevant categories. Why keep scouring Google or Yahoo! for your darkest searches? Find it easier with the search dedicated to the darker side of the net - www.gothicana.com

Please note, Gothicana needs your submissions to help us scour the internet for the best sites. Rather than use robots and spiders to crawl the internet automatically, we prefer the integrity of human submissions to keep out all the nasty internet sites full of ads and useless information. Although there are several listings on the website now, please bear with us while Gothicana grows - you'll be pleased with the results to come!!!

Darkest regards,

Odovacar

p.s. any journalists wishing to feature Gothicana, please feel free to contact me about the new site - we'd appreciate any publicity!

Queenofdarkness57 05-01-2006 11:56 AM

I just searched for Andrew Eldritch and didn't find anything. Hehe. It is cool, though-a gothic google.

succubus,queenofvampires 05-01-2006 12:31 PM

Neither Bauhaus nor Peter Murphy returned anything. How gothic!

Niels 05-01-2006 01:03 PM

It doesn't work, not a single hit when I search for 'sex' and 'porn', that can't be right...

succubus,queenofvampires 05-01-2006 01:07 PM

Yeah, I've tried many things, and nothing worked except for "gothic",and I only got 5 results.Weird!

So that means, you find a site on Siouxsie, you give it to them. Basically, in order to make it work, you have to be the human replacement for their lack of effort/ webcrawler programming. They could just as easily 'scour' google the same as the rest of us.

The potential to be rid of Manson-esque sites and every damn babybats personal AOL account is nice, but then I'm letting them do my editing for me, which I don't dig. Google works pretty well, and for all else that might be hidden... there's the community of gothic.net, alt.gothic, and other great places. =)

Odovacar 05-11-2006 03:39 PM

There is a Google search based on Gothicana if you can't find what you're looking for on our directory. You can find it here: http://google.gothicana.com

Niels 05-12-2006 09:18 AM

nonsense, that just means you get the google results with the gothicana background...

spookypurple 05-12-2006 11:17 AM

Oh! The possibilities are endless! We just need to feed the beast.

(Johnny Five voice) "Input! Input!"

Kinflame 05-12-2006 11:06 PM

Compared to what is apparently the one gothic google, there must be fifty thousand punk reference sites....

Sobeh 05-20-2006 02:54 PM

Looky looky!

Google + Goth = this. The first search engine with real bat chunks in it...

Kinflame 05-20-2006 04:35 PM

WHAT THE HELL SORT OF GOOGLE IS THIS!

I get TWO RESULTS WHEN SEARCHING THE MOST SIMPLE WORD OF ALL GOOGLE TERMINOLOGY, 'BOOBS'!!!

TTWWWWOOOO!

No website can claim to possess Google's outstanding amount of sheer PORN. Bah.

Goth Blonde 05-25-2006 05:05 PM

With the button saying 'Try searching with GOOGLE', I think they're trying to get more people on GOOGLE. Don't you think?

Goth Blonde 05-25-2006 05:09 PM

And when I tryed seaching "gothic', I got nine results and not a single thing
having to do with this website!!! NNNNNNNNNIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!

maggot 05-25-2006 08:29 PM

Well that was truly obnoxious.
Blonde, why do you came back here when absolutely no one on the board likes you?

Kinflame 05-29-2006 03:29 PM

I like her, it's fun to watch the dumb bitch at work.

Except for the blatant attempt to capitalize on my joke, you piece of poseur shit. Is originality over the fucking INTERNET that hard? Maybe for someone with the mental capacity of a four year old with glue addiction. It's not like you couldn't just think of something entirely lame yourself or better yet, search for something funny online and incorporate it into your post, but you're so blindly fucking unoriginal that, out of all the elements of humor on the WORLD FUCKING WIDE WEB, you are limited to looking at the post RIGHT ABOVE yours in order to perform a pathetic fucking attempt at being funny. I'll bet that's how you got your name too, picking the word 'goth' because of course, it's a GOTH website, and choosing Avril Lavigne's hair color because as you've stated before she's SO FUCKING GOOOOTH, because singing inane bullshit about how being rich and white sucks is RRREEEEAAALLL GGOOOOTHHH.

DIE, YOU IGNORANT PIECE OF UNORIGINAL PRETENTIOUS SHIT.

maggot 05-29-2006 08:43 PM

Kinflame is turning me on...
I like me the commanding ones :D

Immortal_Death 07-06-2006 09:03 AM

Goth Blonde, I have the urge to stalk you. It's fun like what Kinflame said.

insertwittyname 11-04-2006 06:45 PM

O.o
I go into the clothing category, then the shoe category, what do I get?
NOTHING. Needs some work. I'm too lazy to upload my favorites list to that thing.

Bubble Gum Goth 11-06-2006 05:56 PM

Hmmmm. If I search for goth sites I like, and then find them, why do I need a search engine?

insertwittyname 11-06-2006 05:58 PM

So you can find new sites that other people use. >.< Which doesn't work with a lame ass engine like this that's brand new and nobody has added to yet.

Crying_Crimson_Tears 12-26-2006 09:46 AM

I think this site needs a little work. Might want to check it out before advertising it on here.

BlackButterfly 12-27-2006 09:23 PM

I'm the type of person who likes to throw serious wrenches in works like this. I have a very mischievous streak in me that builds up to overflow sometimes, and I just have to commence with some complicated act of low-level evil.

(...but I won't mess with this one -- er, for now, I promise!!*)

I usually take it out on the "singles match-up" companies. I'll take that annoying little survey I receive in the mail to Kinko's, and make about a bajillion copies (OK,... maybe more like 50-100). Then I fill them out (different info on each) and stamp them all on one of those days I really feel like fucking up a system, and keep them in my bag. Everywhere I go, I'll drop one in the blue mailboxes and imagine the carnage.

It may do a lot, or it may do absolutely nothing, but it akes me feel better, and burns off some of that "gotta be bad" feeling.

*Promise is only good for 7-10 days.

looker 02-14-2007 04:23 PM

You could make something like this work better with a swicki or google coop. I personally prefer swickis, more engaging than google products generally speaking.

Sumerian Nephilim 08-17-2007 08:24 AM

I just searched for Fields of the Nephilim but nothing came up. I thought new pictures or info might come up, rather than trying google all the time.

Have you tried Blackle?

Blackle was created by Heap Media to remind us all of the need to take small steps in our everyday lives to save energy. Blackle searches are powered by Google Custom Search.

Blackle saves energy because the screen is predominantly black. "Image displayed is primarily a function of the user's color settings and desktop graphics, as well as the color and size of open application windows; a given monitor requires more power to display a white (or light) screen than a black (or dark) screen." Roberson et al, 2002

In January 2007 a blog post titled Black Google Would Save 750 Megawatt-hours a Year proposed the theory that a black version of the Google search engine would save a fair bit of energy due to the popularity of the search engine. Since then there has been skepticism about the significance of the energy savings that can be achieved and the cost in terms of readability of black web pages.

We believe that there is value in the concept because even if the energy savings are small, they all add up. Secondly we feel that seeing Blackle every time we load our web browser reminds us that we need to keep taking small steps to save energy.
How can you help?

We encourage you to set Blackle as your home page. This way every time you load your Internet browser you will save a little bit of energy. Remember every bit counts! You will also be reminded about the need to save energy each time you see the Blackle page load.

Help us spread the word about Blackle by telling your friends and family to set it as their home page. If you have a blog then give us a mention. Or put the following text in your email signature: "Blackle com - Saving energy one search at a time".

Have a look at our energy saving tips page for ideas on steps you can take to save energy.

There are a lot of great web sites about saving energy and being more environmentally friendly. They are full of great tips covering the little things that we can all do to make a difference today. Try Blackling "energy saving tips" or visit treehugger com a great blog dedicated to environmental awareness.

Death_Mask 08-30-2007 10:39 AM

I typed in "Joy Divison" and got nothing.

Death_Mask 08-30-2007 10:40 AM

Um why do I have a red ball shaped thing underneath my title?

Apathy's_Child 08-30-2007 10:53 AM

That mean you've been put on 'tard alert as one to watch.

Just kiddin. When it glows bright red, it means the member is online. :D

Death_Mask 08-30-2007 11:21 AM

Aaah I'm getting two different things. Does it mean I'm online or if it's a new post? *Confused*

Apathy's_Child 08-30-2007 11:29 AM

You're online. I'm 99% sure of it.

Death_Mask 08-30-2007 11:34 AM

Yeah that seems more likely.

Ulfilas 08-30-2007 11:43 AM

erm.. actually - online is more likely. I'm getting confuddled with the red dots on the main forum listings... sorry folks :)

Death_Mask 08-30-2007 11:47 AM

Okay so it means I'm online, I was just wondering since I'm sure this is the first time I'm seeing it.
