Hey

1. What do you do? (Hobbies, job) Well I'm a junior in college. I like watching films, seriously I'm a huge movie fanatic. I also like riding my bike, video games and going to museums.

2. Where are you from? DC

3. Who is your favorite author? Mark Twain and Reinaldo Arenas

4. What are your favorite films? Some of my favs include Swingers, True Romance, No Country for Old Men, Half Nelson, Ghost World, Strange Days, Oldboy, Manhunter, Punch Drunk Love, The Professional

5. What music do you want played at your wedding? Well I don't care what music is playing when I'm walking down but when we have our "first" dance I would love to dance to Summer Time by Miles Davis

6. At your funeral? I don't even want a funeral just a memorial

7. This IS a gothic website, so... how do you want to die? Suffocation by a pillow

8. What kind of casket would you want? None I want to be cremated but if not I just want an ordinary black casket

9. What's your FAVORITE outfit? I honestly don't have a favorite outfit but I love shoes and jackets.

10. What's one thing you miss about being a little kid? elementary school

11. What's your favorite band? Sigur Ros, Luminous Orange and anything shoegaze. I like other bands but those are my two absolutely favorite bands.

12. What kind of education do you have? What is/was/will be your major? I'm trying to go towards a career in exhibition design.

13. Why did you join? I've always been interested in the goth subculture (more so for the "haute" goth fashion) but I never got engaged in it because I couldn't get into the music fully. I liked a few songs here but I never went further. But now I'm starting to get really interested in goth music but I don't know where to start. What started me was Misfits but I think they're more punk than anything but yeah it's leading me to goth. Hopefully you good people can help me with this. ;)

14. If the first 13 questions didn't give it away. What is your gender? Female

the-nihilist 04-23-2009 05:54 PM

Oh, so you're one of those people who wear shoes huh?

StarredLeaf 04-23-2009 06:04 PM

Yeah wanna do something about it pal

RozzVanian 04-23-2009 07:19 PM

Well shoegaze is better than Evanescence, I guess. I love My Bloody Valentine and Cranes and shit...that's shoegaze right there in its best form.

Welcome, stick around.

StarredLeaf 04-23-2009 07:46 PM

Agreed! My Bloody Valentine is a great band. And thanks I plan to stick around, hopefully I won't get lazy with the posting.

Mr E Nigma 04-23-2009 08:01 PM

Punch Drunk Love is a horrible movie... :(

StarredLeaf 04-23-2009 08:09 PM

Ha the reviews for that are either love it or hate it. I never met anyone who thought it was alright.

RozzVanian 04-23-2009 08:12 PM

Why do you want to be cremated? That way you can't come back as a zombie. You'd be missing out on a hell of a lot of fun and flesh-eating!

StarredLeaf 04-23-2009 08:24 PM

That's why I want to be cremated! Eyuck I don't want to be eating human flesh and ultimately get my head blown off by a shotgun. I'll just skip all that and be dust. Dust can be fun.

Well, I guess you could be snorted by someone and take over the snortee's body...

korinna5555 04-23-2009 08:35 PM

Haha.. good ol' DC..

Welcome, new chick.

Vigormortis 04-23-2009 08:41 PM

Welcome welcome, nice to meet you. For getting your feet wet in goth music, try the staples, The Cure, Sisters of Mercy, Christian Death, Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees and if I could throw some personal recommendations, Switchblade Symphony, Mephisto Walz, London After Midnight, Alien Sex Fiend, and Collide. Oh! And Dead can Dance :D

The Misfits, while being an amazing band, are certainly not goth, but it's a good place to put some roots down, I guess.

Mr E Nigma 04-23-2009 08:59 PM

Are you still in DC or are you in New York?

Considering they've both been spawned from heavy metal. One as an evolution and the other as a revolt.

(Goth rock evolved from glam metal/rock which branched off of heavy metal)

So it's not toooooo big a jump. I mean, yeah it's not goth music but it is a good place to start. She even said she thought they were more punk than anything.

StarredLeaf 04-23-2009 09:16 PM

Thanks for the recommendations vigo! Now I have some new music to listen to yay.

I go to school in NYC at the moment.

Mr E Nigma 04-23-2009 09:51 PM

Oh interesting. (I'm in VA) Lived in DC for 2 years though.

Cicero 04-23-2009 10:12 PM

I fucking love shoegaze.

Duncan 04-23-2009 11:27 PM

Welcome. Sigur Rós is one of the most beautiful and sad music I have ever heard. And the video clips are good too. Have you seen the video for

"Untitled 1 (A.K.A Vaka)"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhPuZsIkRj8

"Gósoli"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwQmDvuORY0

or"Hoppípolla"? =D Simply amazing.

Yay! I got the newbie shoes of StarredLeaf. +2 Intelligence, +1 Charisma, + 3 film knowledge, +2 agility when using bicycle, +2 resistance to DC creatures, vulnerable to pillow.

Hmm, maybe I've been playing Final Fantasy too much. Anyway, welcome to the boards!

StarredLeaf 04-24-2009 07:05 AM

Stealing my shoes and complimenting me at the same time? I love it. I mean how dare you! I will get my shoes back you know...once I attain my thief skill. Haha there can never be too much FF. Do you have a favorite?

Vigormortis 04-25-2009 08:49 PM

Despite all the lackeys claiming that FF7 was the greatest of all, any real FF fan knows that the American FF3 (VI in Japan) was the best FF ever. If we're talking about all Square games, Chronotrigger ftw.

Everytime I see your forum name I read it as "Vaginamortis."

Vigormortis 04-25-2009 09:01 PM

Shit, is it too late to change my name to Vaginamortis?

You know what I don't understand? Why 7 is deemed the best. Whats so great about it? The story line made very little sense and the characters were so unlovable. Was it Sephiroth's girly looks? Was Cloud's angst easy to relate to?

Confession: VI was the only one I haven't played yet, I will find an emulator one of these days but I just can't get into FF games lately. Still haven't beaten XII even though I really did enjoy playing it, and it was shaping up to be one of the better ones.

the-nihilist 04-25-2009 09:51 PM

I always thought it was because it was the first 3D one that had the cinematics.
