humor me
my principal wants to know from more Goths than just me,do you think its more satanic, or christian?
|
Bit of a naive question, goth's not about religion.
There are a lot of Christian goths, and some Satanic goths as well. Why not look up the interview that an American news network did with Voltaire? It's on YouTube. It would be a good one for your principal to watch. |
Do not answer that question. The very fact that it was posed to you reveals an agenda that you should not feed.

Hmm you live over near Ft. Mccoy. Fortunately I've been over there quite a few times due to my father's military career. Perhaps on my next visit up there I could look into both explaining it to the Pincipal and for your sake drake looking to see if she is legitimate with her questions.

Goth has absolutely nothing to do with religion. Simple as that.
|
As the others have said, Goth culture has nothing to do with religion.
I can see why people may think that due to the use of certain symbols and even certain references in songs, but at the end of the day, it's not about religion. |
Goth is hardly a religion. It never will be, I hope.
|
wow that was a stupid question for him to ask.
let me guess he thinks that being goth makes you satanic?? |

Goths are of all different religions, and it annoys me so that many people think of it as a religion thing. It's called a subculture, because it's missing pieces needed to be a culture. If we had a set religion, then we'd be a full blown culture.
|
Or a cult. You know, whatever.
|
hey watever, just asking oppions,me personaly,i know many goths, some think of it as a cultural thing, some think of it as a demonic satan outlook, then there are the christianic Goths that run around and try to be "good",but me personaly, i dont think of it any other way than the meaning of life

Some people maintain this belief that goth=nihilism or goth=existentialism, which simply isn't true. Sure, one can be a goth and a nihilist or a goth and an existentialist, but regarding oneself as a member of the subculture certainly doesn't necessitate adherence to one of those mentalities- one can just as easily be a goth and a scientologist. Some nihilists, particularly grim existentialists, or generally depressed folk may dress in black or somewhat gothic raiment in order to express their attitude toward life, but that has nothing to do with Goth. A goth is a fan of gothic rock. |

Better to be an informative person, able to dispense information to the ignorant masses than to maintain silence and make it seem like there's something to hide about the genre.
As its been mentioned, Goth has nothing to do with religion. If anything one could consider it "a philosophy" or "an outlook" but not a religion. Still if they think its a Satanic thing have him look up "gothicchristianity" on Google. {I would have put the hot link on here but this board's software keeps freaking out about my being a newb to this board & having URLs on here.} If Goths share anything at face-value with Christianity its early-Christianity's persecution history! Now go tell yonder principal to get himself a copy of Voltaire's "What is Goth?" from Barnes & Noble using his educator's discount card & read it. If there are any further questions, you're available to help dispense the info! :D |
I'll repeat what others have said.
Goth is not about religion. So tell your principal that. |

Well said...although, in my naive and quixotic desire for increased literacy amongst humans, I maintain that goth is indeed about the gothic literature... Yeah, I'm looking at you, Henry James! |

I mean, there are people who like gothic rock, but who don't claim to be (nor would be considered by others) "goth." My wife is an example of this sort of person. Also, there are people who are, in every other way, as goth as they come, but just don't like that particular genre of music, preferring instead one of the "goth-friendly" genres (industrial, futurepop, what-have-you). While the music is central to the definition of the subculture as a whole, it plays a widely varying role in the lives of the people within that culture. |
