The Jointed Snarls Transform Me

Good day.

Let us drop this courtesy in favour of a much more casual speech pattern.
So, guys. As you may have guessed, I'm new to these Boards of Gothic Despair and Utter Darkness. Let's get going with the introductions, shall we?

My name's Nils. I'm a 15 year old male who lives in the somewhat harsh and cold climate of northern Sweden. I live for goth* music, sarcastic remarks and for the joy of reading. I don't dress goth. Due to this, most other goths dismiss me as a confused teenager who is not only unwilling to dress in a way that does not fit into the 'normal' spectra of our society despite wanting to be part of their subculture, but they are just as quick when it comes to condemning my opinions and beliefs. In short, goths don't like me because I don't dress goth (oh, sweet irony) and normal people have abandoned me because of who I am.

I read a lot. In fact, I read almost as much as I listen to music - most of the time. I'm a big fan of horror, although Stephen King gives me headaches. I prefer the classics such as Bram Stoker, Mary Shelley, Anne Rice, Edgar Allan Poe and H.P. Lovecraft, but also newer writers such as our very own John Ajvide Lindqvist.

When it comes down to the music, I'm a big fan of almost everything that thrives within the goth subculture. Darkwave, gothic rock, deathrock, postpunk and dark cabaret. I also enjoy listening to ethereal wave, industrial music and neofolk, but only now and then. I also enjoy listening to Björk, who is one of my main influences in everything I do. I love the way she convey emotion, her beautiful innocence and her supreme wisdom. Some of my other favourites include Siouxsie and the Banshees, Sisters of Mercy, Clan of Xymox, Sopor Aeternus, The Cure, KUKL, The Dresden Dolls, The Deadfly Ensemble and Diamanda Galás.

I recently started to write and read poetry, starting with Charles Baudelaire. I haven't gotten into the classics yet, so any tips or "where-to-starts" would nice!

This introduction has already gone too far and become way too lengthy for its own good, so I am just going to stop here. Thank you for reading!

/Nils, "Jointed Snarls Transform"

*Note: By using the word 'goth' instead of the clichéd, stereotypical word 'gothic' I hope to avoid confusion, as the term 'gothic' these days not only embraces goth but also a certain sub-genre of metal, Evanescence, Marilyn Manson and other abysmal hell spawns.

Anne Rice's books count as a 'classics' now?
