A nasty memory from way back.
Most of my family lived in Sault Ste Marie so every year or so, my parrents and I would pack up the car and drive the 470 milesto the small frozen boring town. We would stay at Dad's parents' house. Mom would take me to visit her relatives.
Well here comes the spooky part. We visited my uncle Gordy and Aunt Anita, and they had other family over too. They seemed like nice "down home" gregarious people. Back then I was probably 7. Well we came to their house a few times during the week that my parents and I were in town. It was a small house, with two levels and while I was never down for a look, they most likely had a basement.
Well, these people liked to talk and sit around their big kitchen table and chew the fat. I was there so long, I had to go use their bathroom. Their bathroom was on the main level, and it was a typical little thing with a sink, toilet, bathtub. The room had a big fluorescent tube in a boxy fixture on the ceiling.
Well, one of my relatives noticed I was bored as hell, or they were too lazy to get up and get what they wanted, so they asked me to go upstairs to get something.
I said, "OK" and I went up a short steep flight of stairs to get to their second floor. the stairs connected to a short hallway which had the doors that lead to the various bedrooms. Well, when you go up these stairs and go two feet into the hall, you are right above their bathroom down below. I noticed with horror something strange built into the floor. Somebody had cut a square hole in the ceiling of the bathroom right up into the upstairs hallway and covered it with the light fixture. Up above, they had made a clever cover for the hole in the floorboards.
It was a plate set in a frame about 9 inches square and had a bunch of finger holes so you can lift it out and look down and view the bathroom right threw the light fixture! It was a "perfect" view right above the toilet! It was NOT a hole to gain acess to the light, it was WAY too small. I drew a diagram and it is very close to what I saw. Back at that age, I didn't know fully what I had had discovered, but I knew it was NOT good!
A SECRET AND HIDDEN TRAPDOOR TO PEEP AT PEOPLE AS THEY USED THE TOILET!
I knew that my relatives must have known about it and had built it because if it was there when they moved in, they probably would have nailed the sucker shut and laid carpet or something over it. But it looked to be in good repair.
I rushed downstairs and discreetly pulled my mother aside and told her what I found. I was shocked and annoyed that she didn't care and was bored that I pulled her away from the conversation for THIS.
Only recently, have I put it all together, Later on as the years rolled by, I am horrified at the possibilities! Did somebody watch ME as I used the shitter!? Or other children? Or just adults!? It was built in such a way so you couldn't see anything wrong by looking up from inside the bathroom.
Ever since, any time I (rarely) run into one of my Mom's relatives, I ALLWAYS think of that trapdoor!
Nobody did anything, nobody cared, even years later! This was during the early 1990's, so they most likely don't live there.
One of them died. By now, maybe the whole house may be gone. But now, I will always wonder about them and whoever was there at the party.
That was the most disturbing thing I had ever seen first hand!I just thought of it today after not even thinking about for ALONG time.

If you don't believe me then fine, I don't care. You can think what you like.
I just was thinking about this old situation, and I wrote it down for the first time ever. I don't cook up stories to gain attention, if you sincerely think that, then fine, but keep it to yourself, because you are right off course. I am surprised that you might think I am lying because you seem to me like a level headed person. I don't lie. I don't make up stories, and if anybody thinks I do, then they need to get to know me better because they couldn't be farther from the truth.

Have you ever considered that it could be like, an air vent, or perhaps an old hole for pipes to run though? I have a pretty old house, and there are PLENTY of holes in the floor with plate covers just like the one you drew. They all used to be used for heat and water pipes to go through to the different floors of the house.
I think you have quite the imagination to immediately jump to the conclusion that it's a peephole.

Actually, what you saw was a modern convenience found in many state-of-the art homes in the Sault Ste Marie area. You see, those people only recently moved out of single level dirt floor log cabins and into small pre-fab homes that the rest of America considers as substandard housing. Many of these homes have only a single bathroom on the lower floor but the bedrooms are always on the 2nd floor. So, rather than stumble up and down stairs in the dark every night these clever Michigan people devised a simple yet effective plan of cutting a hole in the hallway floor directly over the toilet.
With a little aim, men can usually hit the bowl or at least the fluffy throw rug that wraps around the base of the toilet. (Women have to squat precisely over the hole.) Naturally, this only works for urine. In theory, you could sit in the hallway, carefully aligning your ass cheeks on either side of the hole and literally drop a load but the splash would be problematical and then there is the matter of going down to fetch the toilet paper anyway. Some such homes have actually installed a toilet paper dispenser in their upper hallways, near the hole, but this is considered bad taste because visiting guests such as yourself would find the entire arrangement revolting.
I would draw a flow chart (pun intended) depicting exactly how this system works but some members here would find such images much to their taste and sexually arousing. It has been reported that in certain homes in the North-Eastern corner of Iowa such holes double as showers.

I take it back about Opteron using too much imagination.

I'm going to take this literally, and point out the fact that if the light was on, it would be WAY to bright to see anything. Also, you said this was on the second floor, how is anyone supposed to get inside the ceiling?

I didn't jump to any conclusions and I am open to the possibilty that I made a mistake. But the hole wasn't connected to any ductwork or wiring conduit, not that I can see. When I looked into this thing, the light was soft enough so you can see perfectly. They probably sawed though the floor on the second floor,
which gavethem a path into the first floor ceiling. Then mounted the lamp over the hole, and nailed some wood strips to set the panel with the finger holes on.

Oh, never mind. I don't run up to them when I see them and yell and point.
It was just some quirky thing I remember from way back.
Who knows? Maybe it was just there for another reason, but it was odd the way it was done.

I don't remember seeing any pipes or air duct, but you might be right.
But I have never seen any little port like that anywhere else.

I can't believe some people can be so lazy! So aparently, some people pissed though a hole, while making a huge stinking mess down below instead of walking down there and doing it properly!? If this is true, then I am shocked.

Opteron-Man, I'm pretty sure MiR5 was fucking with you about the hole-in-the-hallway thing, although it was funny none the less. I also think that while the hole in the ceiling may not be currently connected to any wiring or whatnot, it may have been at some point.

I buy it...
>_>
LMFAO... sorry I couldn't keep a straight face for but so long.
I can only hope Opteron was being sarcastic in his response, for I fear it seems he was a bit too serious...
...At least that's what I'm hoping. O_O
EDIT: Wow I didn't see his post right above this one...
...Damn.

Glad to hear it ZyklonB!
I like when you guys have a bit of fun at my expence.
It is not good to be a serious sourpuss all the time. As a matter of fact, Some of the stuff I do is pretty funny. Later on when I look back and think about it, but at the time, it seemed like a good idea!
Pahahaha!

So you have Asberger's, then you're anorexic, now you're a victim of sexual abuse...

Yeah, happens to me too sometimes Opteron. Sometimes I stop myself in the middle of a conversation and go "Wait... Did I really just say that!"
Think it happens to all of us, some just more than others.

Underwater Ophelia, I have been diagnosed with Asberger's syndrome after years of me being studied by cold doctors in the 1990's. I have alot of problems
"getting by" in society with it. But I certainly try to overcome it and fit in.
I am unfortunatly suffering from anorexia, it is not nice and and it is extremely painful to live with. It is bad, I can't explain what it is like, and I don't have the energy to try to explain what it feels like living with it day to day. I am going to recieve help for it the first part of the first week of the coming month.
And finally, I am not a victom of ANY sexual abuse of ANY kind.

Opteron, is it just me, or are a lot of the threads in the "Whining" forum written by you? The active ones, I mean. I don't mean to belittle whatever you're going through, but are there better ways to deal with it than posting it on an internet forum?

Oh certainly ZyklonB! I am sure we all have those moments! I certainly do! Hehehe! But some people are so full of hot air, they won't admit it.
I myself make alot of mistakes, but I chuckle and move on. It is not good to take yourself so serious, you know?
