Fashion DIY tips and gratuitous plugs. And hair. Hair! Flow it, show it. Wait...no. That's some hippie musical. Nevermind. |

Finding affordable black Victorian-esque blouses?
I only own a few of them, and the thrift stores near me never have anything similar to what I'm looking for. I recently got one from Arsenic Fashions, and I was going to order another one but they didn't have it in stock in my size which made me rather sad. The ones I like the most have lace accents, black buttons down the front, and slightly puffy short sleeves. Does anyone know where I can find some?

I don't know if you've visited lately, but Arsenic Fashions has a clearance sale on just now. I checked it out after you had mentioned it, and am now $90 down ... Alas. Some of the blouses are lovely, particularly the Lip Service ones.

You can regularly check Heavy Red's Last Chance section.
Its quite hit or miss though. And even the clearance is still pricey.
But sometimes the have a steal.
And the quality of the items are, from my experience anyways, immpecable.
These are items that will last for ages.

This sounds rather stingy, but I'm poor...
Op shops, second hand places. Busy normal black blouses that are too big, then tack in elastic for puffy bits, lace is easy to add, and as for the waist being too big, l usually pull it in with A corset.

Everybody who has posted so far has a different idea of affordable than I do. I would check out ebay or etsy.

I second ebay and etsy. More ebay than etsy.
Etsy sellers can be hilarious about their asking prices. Because frankly there is some serious SHIT on there for astoundingly high cost.

H&M and Forever21 usually have some decent victorian-esque blouses during the fall months. you can also try Retroscope or Gloomth although both shops are a little on the pricey side. Angel-Secret on ebay has a few victorian/l o l i t a blouses as well. Good luck on finding what you want!

It is quite easy to sew a loose, victorianesque shirt, think poet shirt or something. If you have a sewing machine, or needle and thread and a bit of patience, you can get cheap cotton fabric and make one yourself. You don't even need a pattern, really, but there are a lot of great tutorials out on the internet for free if you aren't certain about how to do it.
