Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

Frank The Baptist
A friend of mine recently lent me Frank The Baptist's newest album "The New Colossus" and I fell in love. I've heard of them for quite a bit, but never got a chance to listen until now. I still need thier previous albums and would like to know if anyone else here is a fan. If I were to describe them, I'd say a much more poppy Screams For Tina meets Christian Death with a powerful magic behind them. From the album I've listened to my favorites are "If I Speak", "When The Sky", "Harlot of Nations", and "Iron, Water, and Wood". Also, any recomendations on an album to buy next are welcome.

I love Frank the Baptist!!
Next CD you should look for is Beggars Would Ride.
From the New Colossus, my favorites are Scars Forever, When the Sky, and The Wrong House.

Is New Colossus a good starting point? I may check these guys out with both of your recommendations.

They only have three CDs, but I haven't heard the first one, and not all of Beggars Would Ride, so I might just be biased to saying the following, but The New Colossus is their first CD.

I've got both the New Colossus and Beggars Would Ride, and love them both. The singer's style reminds me a bit of Voltaire.
My favourite songs are probably 'Eskimos and Butterflies', 'Ever' and 'When the Sky'.

"The New Colossus" isn't a very good starting point; I'd recommend "Different Degrees of Empty" instead. "The New Colossus" goes into a variety of directions, some quite good, but not necessarily representative of FTB's earlier work.

I also recommend "Different Degrees of Empty."
FTB are my favorite new band for so many reasons...originality, lyricism, musicianship, and the fact that Frank is a really nice, down to earth guy who is from NJ like me .
Funny story about the song "Harlot of Nations" - it started off as a sort of jokey live show thing. I saw them play it when they were still making parts of it up, and Frank was like, "You guys actually *like* that song?" Then when I heard it on the new album I had to laugh .

He's from New Jersey!? Hah. Awesome. I could throw a rock from my house and hit NJ. Well, not really, but you get it. Maybe they should come back here and do a show in Philadelphia then. Hahaha.
I ordered "Different Degrees of Empty", but I think the shop in the city I got it from has to back order it for me.

Hah. You listened to 5 seconds of one song. How can you say that? It's cool though. They're not for everyone.

Is "Different Degrees of Empty" out of print? I can't seem to find it and was told it was by a store I tryed to order it from. I just want to know if I'm being fooled.
