Hi, another newbie introduction here

1. What do you do? (Hobbies, job)
I check in patients in the Emergency Triage at a local hospital, so I get to see all the drama and plenty of blood.

2. Where are you from?
A mundane town I shall hopefully be leaving in the near future.

3. Who is your favorite author?
Dostoevsky

4. What are your favorite films?
I’m not sure to tell you the truth. I guess I’m not much of a movie person.

5. What music do you want played at your wedding?
By Starlight and maybe Le Deux Machina (F&EOMM version) by The Smashing Pumpkins

6. At your funeral?
Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness also by The Smashing Pumpkins (and if your sensing a theme here it’s because “The Smashing Pumpkins” is the answer to #11)

7. This IS a gothic website, so... how do you want to die?
I would like to go peacefully in my sleep.

8. What kind of casket would you want?
I would like a polished black coffin with silver Art Nouveau style hardware on the outside and a satin blue interior.

9. What's your FAVORITE outfit?
I prefer something dark and elegant with a bit of an Edwardian feel. My closet is overloaded with too many favorites to choose just one though.

10. What's one thing you miss about being a little kid?
the lack of responsibility

11. What's your favorite band?
Why Smashing Pumpkins of course.
I also like Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Bauhaus, The Cure, Muse, Radiohead, Manson, and Led Zeppelin among others.

12. What kind of education do you have? What is/was/will be your major?
I’m currently in college majoring in Art, History, and Literary Studies. I plan on going to design school though for graduate studies.

13. Why did you join?
Mainly boredom, but it looked like a decent site.

14. If the first 13 questions didn't give it away. What is your gender?
female

Thanks for the welcome!

You can easily find the major Russian authors in the US (Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, etc.), but I do think a lot of other Russian literature is hard to come by in general. Which book did you read? Crime and Punishment maybe...

This sounds almost ignorant, but let me ask you something about Dostoevsky.
Is The Idiot worth finishing?
I loved his Notes From Underground, but I gave up on The Idiot.

I think they are all worth reading myself- The Idiot included. I always find his work interesting from a religious and philosophical point, especially since I study Russian history and philosophy.

I take it your interested in Communism or Anarchism maybe from your avatar pic and the Bakunin quote?

I tend to agree with Freud that Dostoevsky's work becomes weaker than it could be because he tries to juxtapose Christianity in it.
However, I'm very eager of reading the Brothers Karamazov.
And yeah, I'm interested in those political philosophies, mostly to anarchism, but it is mainly about power deriving from the bottom up rather than from the top downwards.
That's a talk for another day, but I gather than then you know your share of politics as much as philosophy?

I don't mind the religious bent myself. I think it adds to his work, especially if consider you his work in a Russian religious/philosophical context.

And yes, I'm interested in politics too.
