Educational Chemistry Crayons

Educational Chemistry Crayons

Aug 28 2010

SOURCE

"Hey Mom, Pass The Barium Nitrate Flame."

At least that's what the creator of this product hopes your child will say when they get these crayons, which are labeled with the actual chemical used to give each colored wax stick its hue.

If the information sticks, your kid should have an edge up in high school chemistry... and possibly a little confusion in kindergarten when the other kids ask for "Jungle Green."

Ben - Personally, I prefer the Yttrium Oxide color.

It makes me think of a lot of the new paint colour names. They've started naming new pigments after the name of the actual chemical, so you get things like Quinacridone Violet, Phthalocyanine Green, Nickel Titanate Yellow or Anthraquinone Blue. Older pigments still carry their fancy names, like Prussian Blue (alkali ferriferrocyanide), Cremnitz White (lead carbonate), or Gamboge (named after Cambodia - comes from a tree there).

This is talking about real paint - not wall paint or craft paint.
