An interesting story

Does anybody watch the tv show Lost?
That show can be very goth sometimes, although lately, the plot is becoming twisted beyond rationality.
In season 3, the character called Mr. Eco told a very interesting story:

Back when he was serving as a priest in a church in Africa, everyday he would see a small boy standing in front of the church, staring at him. One day, the boy approached him. He told the priest that he killed his dog with a shovel because it attacked his little sister, and he feared he would go to hell for this "crime".
Mr. Eco said to him that if he is remorseful, God will forgive him.
But it turns out that the boy didn't care about forgiveness. He was concerned he will go to hell and come face to face with his dog.
The end.

What do you think the meaning of this story is?

Dunno, but I'm waiting for the freakin' return of this show around February. I've been waiting almost a year and that's too long.

That religion is only ever a panaecea for our true fears.

Lost is very weird. I can't relate to any character, nor I can have a favorite one. In the beginning I liked Kate and Sayer, and I hated Charlie and Hurley, but after 2 seasons I hate Kate. She is fuckin obnoxious, she keeps slutting around between Jack and Sayer, I mean "Make up your mind bitch!" And Ben... I can't figure it out if I admire his genius, or I want to smack his nerdy face. All characters have ups and downs, and you just can't favorite any of them.

Do you agree with me ? Or my perception sucks...

Still I can't get enough of it!
