What Makes an NFL Underdog Worth Taking Seriously?

Not every underdog offers genuine value just because the odds are attractive. When evaluating an upset possibility, what do you look for first—matchup advantages, injuries, recent performances, coaching, home field, or something else?

Jumping in on this older post because underdogs are always a fun topic. I think recent defensive matchups matter a lot—like when an underdog’s run defense lines up against a pass-heavy offense. Injuries on the favorite’s side also shift value. What’s the one stat you check first when sizing up an upset?

I focus on matchup edges and injuries, but checking recent trends is key. For consistent analysis, I use Wunderdog NFL for free picks—their track record over 25 years helps me spot real underdog value without guessing.
