Yet another "hello"
Hello, nice to e-meet you all. I am (obviously) new.
1. What do you do? (Hobbies, job)
I graduated highschool this past June and am taking the year off before going to school in Europe. As for hobbies, I like the cliche things like reading, watching movies, drawing (art is a huge thing for me), and going out to local shows.
2. Where are you from?
I was born in Hildesheim, Germany. grew up in Ohio, but live in Los Angeles now. I am a little nomadic!
3. Who is your favorite author?
Oh dear, favorites are near impossible for me, so how about a top four? I've had an obsession with Lovecraft since I was a kid, I am a huge fan of horror/fantasy my favorite contemporary author being Clive Barker. I am also a huge fan of the Beat authors, especially Burroughs and Thompson.
4. What are your favorite films?
Anything by David Lynch, Alphaville by Jean-Luc Godard, Vertigo by Hitchcock, The Crow, the original Metropolis, and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.
5. What music do you want played at your wedding?
Music? Genres all over the board from goth, to noise, to classical, to blues. When I am walking down the aisle though, I think it would be pretty awesome to be playing something by Cinema Strange.
6. At your funeral?
Party Time by 45 Grave
7. This IS a gothic website, so... how do you want to die?
I'm a wimp, give me a death in my sleep.
8. What kind of casket would you want?
A really ornate black one with gold handles and carried in a horse drawn carriage. Just anything but the pink casket I saw in Sam's Club (true story).
9. What's your FAVORITE outfit?
I have a tight black mini dress i like wearing with some ripped up pantyhose and my Doc Martens. Those are my three favorite items of clothing, so anything with them is fine with me
10. What's one thing you miss about being a little kid?
The fact everything seems okay, all problems are capable of being resolved, and all people are innately good.
11. What's your favorite band?
It is really hard to determine favorites! So I'll go with a top five again...
Skinny Puppy, Einsturzende Neubauten, Das Ich, 45 Grave, and either Rudimentary Peni or Christian Death.
12. What kind of education do you have? What is/was/will be your major?
I have just graduated highschool and would like to study either to become a vet or a neuropsychologist.
13. Why did you join?
There are very very few outlets for a person like me to express certain things. When I was a kid I wore all black, listened to different music, did that whole nonesense, and got harassed for it to no end. I got really embarassed after a while, stopped telling people the books I read or the music I liked, and stopped wearing the clothes I liked. I tried to camouflage. Life became easier, but it's hard to deny yourself. I am not sure I would call myself "goth" because I do not really want to get the negative attention or presumptions from people, but the interests I had back then haven't changed. perhaps here I can meet more people who like the same things and I can stop hiding this huge part of myself at long last !
14. If the first 13 questions didn't give it away. What is your gender?
I am female.

You have all the signs of sensibility, intelligence and good taste in music. This is good news.
How long did you spend in Germany and can you speak the language?

thank you : )
I lived in Germany until I was 3, so I was very very young. I did however spend every summer in Germany until I was 13. It's been 5 years now and my German is getting faulty! I can speak and understand nearly fluently, writing is difficult however. I'm trying to speak it in my everyday life again though so i can brush up.

Excellent! My major is probably going to end up being German or European Languages, so I have a soft spot for those who are learning/speaking German.
Practicing it on a daily basis certainly helps, as does listening to German music. Singen Das Ich und Einsturzende Neubauten auf Deutsch? Wirklick, das wuerde geil sein.
Fuer mich die Band am bessen, wer habe ich Die Toten Hosen gehoert ist.
Please forgive me if my grammar is not the best. I'm still learning on how to sequence everything.

haha no it was perfect, grammar is my weak spot as well. I can understand, read, and speak with virtually no problem! Writing has always been difficult though, most likely because it wasn't something I had to do very often. When you are only using German to speak with family and friends, you can get away pretty easily with never having to write something down. Unfortunately that has kicked me in the ass; I'll need to improve if i want to go to university in Germany.
And yes, both sing in German. If you haven't heard them before please do! Das Ich are a bit of a guilty pleasure, but EN are really truly fascinating, I think. My dad used to listen to them when he was a teenager.
I actually never really listened to much by die toten hosen! they're one of those bands that for some reason i always heard of and was aware of, but never got around to listening. maybe i'll change that!

More than understandable, although you do have a head-start on most who would like to learn how to read German. You know what the words mean but you don't know what they look like.
How are Das Ich a guilty pleasure? Are they a little bit Tweensy? Either way, I'll give both a good listen to once I'm finished watching Ergo Proxy.
As for Die Toten Hosen... they have great songs scattered all over the place, and I've got the whole discography of Die Toten Hosen on my computer so I can give you a few safe reccomendations.
I also agree with Miss M. It is rare to see youthful people having a decent vocabulary and manners to boot.
For old school Die Toten Hosen (Back when they hardly knew how to play in the early 80's):

While I pretty much agree with Corpsey, I have to ask.
Were you unable to think of a more cliche name?

In what context is it cliche? In all my years of going under this name, you're the first person to have been bothered by it. But sure, I could have chosen from a near endless list of other cliche names, but why would I?
firstly it's been my online alias since I was 14, so it was a no brainer. Why sit ruminating for hours over the perfect edgy screen name, when you can just use the name you use for every other dumb website and get it over with?
Secondly, if you REALLY want the full drawn out explanation as to why this cliche happens to have sentimental reason for me, it's a book I've always liked, and a story with which I used to identify with, and used to represent my own struggle with an eating disorder. So there, cliché, but i don't really care because unbeknownst to you, it has significance to me.
Trust me, I could have chosen something much more trite.

anywho to corpsey, I like the first one best, I'm really upset I never gave them a listen earlier :P
Das Ich are a little over the top at times and it can be comical how dramatic they are; I like them, but i know many people wouldn't and I am always a little self conscious when it comes to sharing my taste in music.
And thanks again; I'm not really the most eloquently spoken person out there but i'm glad I don't come off as a complete ditz! I hate to be a grammar nazi, but never understood why speaking in complete cohesive and grammatically correct sentences was so difficult, especially for other young grasshoppers like myself.

Heh. This forum once was a grammar Nazi haven. Less moreso today, but there is still an element of eloquence and being able to string coherent paragraphs together is virtually mandatory around these parts of the internet.
Over the top? I'm keen for that sort of musical flavor so long as they maintain the allure that only good bands can.
Seeing as you enjoyed some of Die Toten Hosen's less developed songs, possibly these may tickle your fancy more.

In all my time of being a complete asshole in peoples' intros, you're like the second one to come up with a reply that impressed me.
So welcome!

I really loved Howl, it was the one that got me into that whole genre of books.
I liked Naked Lunch, but it as actually far from being my favorite of his; I just finished reading his short The Cat Inside which I thought was absolutely great; Junkie is good as well, but my favorite at least by Burroughs is Cities of the Red Night. I just picked it up a few weeks ago and started reading it; I am half way through and think I am liking it more than Naked Lunch.
I know it's everyone's answer, but I can't deny loving keruac's On the Road or Dharma Bums. There are very few books I could read so intently without stopping, and feel completely emerged in : )
Not a beat, but I can't believe I forgot to mention my love love love for Vonnegut!
Oh and for those grumpy Existentialists; they got me through highschool.
Also, thanks everyone for your seals of approval ahha

Cities is pretty cool - how does The Wild Boys sit with you?
(Really like Burroughs, although reading The Job made me want to bitch-slap him.)

Meh. I'm kind of indifferent to these to be honest but Big Sur and Doctor Sax made me need a wank like NOW.

Awesomeness, I fucking love Vonnegut. On his day the writing is so goddamn beautiful it makes me tear.
