Aye, I know, I had limited resources :P I have often thought about adding more to it, but I haven't gotten around to doing it.

Leave it to me to hit my quota for played-out quips just when '*facepalm*' emerges as the only practical retort.

What truly annoys me is the lack of proper The Phantom of the Opera masks really. I bought one once. It was a thin piece of plastic that I eventually had to take off because it was gnawing on my forehead.
Other than that, it was a demi mask but with a full yet very small nose.

Korinna, that mask is absolutely gorgeous. I love the colors. Annnnd now I want one.
I only have two masks, actually. Neither of which I made. One is a Guy Fawkes mask (don't ask), and the other is a fugly Freddy Krueger mask that came with the glove I wanted. Because I couldn't get my hands on supplies for a metal one. Argh. It'd just be nice to have as a sort of collectible, yanno? Anyway, I need to get some better masks. Of course, every time I've looked for cool cheap ones online, the shipping is insane. Go figure.

Okay, at this point picking on Anarasha should just be outlawed, because no matter what you say he always replies with something like, "I know. It's sad, isn't it. I'll try to do better." And that just ends up being depressing.
Also, shouldn't this thread be in the FASHION forum?

Yes but since we have no mods and admin is a ghost, the chances of it being moved are low.
On the other foot, this guy makes amazing masks from paper. Really delicate and beautiful work.

Yes, on the other gothic website where I serve as a mod, I'd be able to move it very easily. But site maintenance in general isn't a priority for management here.

So, the ball has been post phoned and I'm pretty determined to win the contest for best mask, is there any good tutorials online for making masquerade masks? I got a lot of time to work on it, I don't really want to just slap some sequins on cardboard and call it a mask.

A long time ago, I found a tutorial for making leather masks. It's on deviantART, I think. I'll be at Lane in about an hour, where my internet will stop cutting out, so I'll try and find it then. I actually realized I have an old old OLD paper mache mask from, like, fifth grade. Maybe you could try doing that on the upper part of your face, then trim it as desired? The texture leaves something to be desired, but it's cheap, and easy to paint.

I was hoping to do something very different so I don't really want to go with a base, although if I fail there's a craft store here that sells them. I think I can make a base easily enough actually, I've done masks before with papier mache, just not half masks and I'm thinking I might make a butterfly mask so I don't know how well its going to go.

Actually, this wasn't meant as withdrawing from anything, I honestly did think about redoing the mask :P
As for any other time, I just won't bother with the arguments these days, they don't amuse me anymore.

Sounds like a little bit of wisdom to me.

I know this is kinda off the subject but I have a scary story that's circulated in Japan and Korean about a lady with a mask.
The story goes like this...A Korean woman had plastic surgery in Japan, But during the procedure, something went horribly wrong apparently and she was left with a grotesquely scarred face. The edges of her mouth were cut all the way up to her cheek bones making her face resemble a "psycho-smile." I guess kinda like jokers....Well she started wearing a red mask. Horribly disfigured she became determined to take out her anger on people, children especially. Rumor has it that if you live on the first floor of an apartment building or go into dark alleys she may find you... she's supposed to ask you a question. "Am I pretty?"
If you say that she is pretty, she'll call you a liar, and cut your face to be just like hers. If you say she's ugly, she'll be insulted and cut the left side of your mouth... basically you should be scared because it's a lose/lose situation.

I love stories like that.
They are proper frightening unlike a lot of the "scary stories" passed around where I live.

Oh, hey, if you want freaky masks, just look at a lot of older Japanese stories. Fatal Frame is pretty much a good example of a collection of stories like that. The blinding mask. . . euuuugh. -Shudder-
