Wonder Woman Gets A Makeover
After 69 years, DC Comics has decided it's time to update Wonder Woman's look. They're trading her trademark hot pants for ... LEGGINGS?
SOURCE
Ben - I don't like it. No sir, not one bit.

Not so much skin. Some will like, some will not. Personally, I despise leggings and like knee-high boots.

Sweet! She finally has straps on her bustier! I always wondered how she kept it up.
Personally, I'm relieved. I was hoping to dress up as her for Halloween but I've been dreading the hotpants. This looks much easier to do!

Well, it's sure as hell not Wonder Woman...
But it's a little sexy.... Just my opinion.

I suppose if the bustier was made out of stiff enough material...
Like molded plastic...
Personally I do find it better than hot-pants.... I don't know. If it was clearly jeans in a pair of kick-ass knee-high boots...
*shrug*

Yeah, but I'm guessing they'll lose 70% of their target audience.
Oh, I get all the reasons for making the change like what a practical suit for a superhero would look like and what kind of social messages are we sending.
But it's fiction ... and it's a fundamental iconic look they're fooling with. And I bet they see a drop in sales. A significant one.

Yeah but depending on how the artist draws her it looks like she's going to pop out at any second sometimes.
I dunno, her costume was always a little off putting to me. I'm not saying you can't be sexy and feminist at the same time, but it just always felt like they made her that way because they thought boys wouldn't read about a kickass female if she wasn't half dressed.
ETA: This isn't the first time she had a costume change, its not THAT iconic. She used to have a skirt and she has that white jumpsuit when she's Diana Prince.

She's got bracelets the deflect bullets and a rope that compels people to tell the truth. I always assumed that in among the other magic things, that costume was magically powered to hold tight to her skin.

I think they're trying to remake the icon so that she doesn't look like such an... easy woman. I think the comic was made largely for guys, but now they're trying to make it appeal to both. The outfit is still sexy, but not blatantly outrageous, as if to try to say "You can use more than just a bare minimum of fabric to be a superheroine."
I've always thought that covering up somewhat is sexier than showing everything, anyway.
The more I look at the new one compared to the old look, the more it appeals to me (though her footwear could be bucklier.... and stompier...).
Edit: I think the reason she appeals to me more is because she reminds me of Death from the Sandman books.

Well, I'm just saying, as a Lynda Carter Wonder Woman fan, that the new look isn't as sexy. In fact, it's not much at all. And I never thought she looked easy before ... she looked fearless.
Anyway, if it hurts the comic sales it'll probably also kill the stalled Wonder Woman movie project ... and I've really been hoping they would get that thing made.

I DO NOT want the Wonder Woman movie made! They had some model who never acted before cast before they shelved it. They're going to be going for a woman with no brains or talent but lots of tits to play her.
I don't think it'll hurt the comic sales, I think Amazons Attack have done enough damage to her. I'd love to know what Gail Simone thinks about it, she's my favourite author so far, but I think this'll give Wonder Woman a lot of attention and I know a lot of women won't find her so embarrassing now.
And Lynda Carter likes it!

"I think Wonder Woman has a mind of her own. And I think she was just kind of ready for something new. She's got an attitude and if this is the new thing that she wants to wear, well, by God, she's going to wear it. And I like that. And I hope that in the story someone mentions, where's the old one? And she says, get over it!"

And its weird, that picture you have shows her with small tits, but in the article he reassures us that she'll always have huge tits and indeed, the 603 cover shows huge tits.
And here I was excited that I'd have a small titted hero to look up to *sigh*

Never... (or hardly ever).
If I ever do a superheroine comic, I'll make her an A-cup, just for you Saya.

Aww, thanks La Belle ^_^
I wonder if its a temporary change or if its just for a series run?
Hmmm, I think Gail Simone likes it from the look of her twitter.
Now what does Feminist Hulk say?

Personally I think it's about time. The woman hasn't changed her look for 69 years. It's time she smartened up and started wearing pants. Fighting Captain Cold is bad enough without getting frostbite on your legs.

Hot pants are cold in the winter. What if she visits Canada?

Dude, in all the decades of reading Wonder Woman comics, I never heard her say she was cold ...
because she's a super-fucking-hero.
Next someone will say she should take an umbrella along if there's a chance of rain.

I think she looks more fantasy-goddess princess.... or whatever. More like an independent woman, less like a costume, as they said--and hey? She's wearing a leather jacket!!! How can that be wrong!?
Every punk knows--it's always leather weather!!

Leather weather!
Especially for one whose illness seems to include constant frigidness. Unfortunately, the only leather thing I own is a small backpack-purse-object.
I will continue to propagate true Canada-Goth attire by wearing black fleece when I am cold. Mmmmm fleece... so soft and so warm....
I like blankets.

My pleather jacket is way too warm for even cold-ish summer nights now. I'm all in a sweat during late night shenanigans.
But this is going to be great come October ^_^

Saya posted an excellent amateur created alternative Wonder Woman costume elsewhere, and while I like the design work and as a practical matter it would be easier for a real person to wear in reality, I offer up one of the comments about that costume as evidence for why a fictional meta-human from an Amazonian culture should not have a costume change because of our cultural delicacies in the year 2010 or because it makes it easier for a real world person to dress up like her:
"Great job, but it’s too dark. We need to get away from this “have to darken superhero costumes because we are embarrassed by the source material” mode in live-action films. The ancient Hellenes painted their buildings and statues in vividly bright blue and red. Leather probably can’t be dyed brighter, but there is not reason to use leather when she has preternaturally strong skin."
BTW, Saya, if you get a chance you should still post that pic here as the work is very good.

Wonder woman always looked like she was wearing a diaper in the live action.
Maybe they're trying to fix that.

But that should just mean they might address the costume in the live-action differently (even though the live action movie looks to be dead.)
Plus, this is definitely from the "that was then, this is now" category. Consider the Batman costume from the 60's TV show versus the current incarnation in the movies. Consider the Mystique costume from the X-Men movies. I really don't think Hollywood would have a problem replicating that classic, iconic costume if they wanted to - without the low-budget diaper effect that the 70's TV show costume suffered.

*sniff* Those leggings look like shit my mom made me wear back in the 80's, in a bad way. While the outfit is quite stylish, it doesn't really say superhero to me... so where do we go from here?..... shall we put superman in jeans and a t? While we're at it lets put batman in a burkah...
