Advice please

I don't know if this has been asked so please don't flame me.

I'm new to goth and I don't have enough money to by cool clothes (or something along those lines). Can anyone tell me some ideas to look good with no cash? I've got red and black skirts, red dark-blue and dark-purple shirts, two black jackets, and boots. Is that enough or do I need more?

It doesn't really matter. What you have is fine. There is no need to make yourself look better. You do what you feel like, not what other tell you. If you still do want to ask for advice, mine is to reserach good online Goth shops. What I say, just do what you feel like wearing. Nobody really cares if you do dress the way you have or not.

If you don't have the money, what many do (not me 'cause I lack the talent) is buy clothes that may look good, and modify them.

I love doing that! I don't always have the time to get to everything, though, so I've got piles of random things lying around ym room, waiting to be fixed up. But basically, I go through the local Goodwill (The Salvation Army was better, but they closed! Agh!) looking for anything that jumpes out at me. Sometimes I'll actually find something I can just put on right then and there (this nice vintage coat thing for instance, I love it), or maybe I'll find a dress that I don't like, but I like the fabric it's made out of, so I buy it (it's typically only a few bucks anyways, so virtually no harm done if I actually can't use it), and cut it up and make something else. It's an excuse to be recklessly creative, in any case. I think that's what I like about it.

I too have the "piles of pending projects" problem...

If you can draw, sketch down what you want to do with something, and take the projects one at a time. Seeing too many things to do tends to make you despondent and less likely to work on them because it all looks overwhelming... or maybe that's just me... but if you finish even one thing (and love it like I love my projects), that will give you energy and inspiration to move on to the next, and you'll be done with more of them faster!

Modding is sometimes the best way to express individuality, which is (among other things) a big part of being goth.

Not only that, but it's fun!! (Sorry, I just had a candy bar, I'm way too hyper for my own good. At leats it kept the kids at the mall from calling me "emo". I was lazy today so I threw on my skinny jeans and a black t-shirt. But, too hyper to be called "emo". I love chocolate.)

buy pants and stuff at hot topic if you just think there some of there stuff is pretty crazy looking not becuase its gothic...thoughs tripp pants make you kind of look like a clown its cool though! oh ..uhm what other stores carry tripp pants? anybody know

Tripp pants look like they hurt if you run in them. Too many chains and stuff. Thank anyway.

Basic things can look really cool, black cargo pants..leather vynal pants..etc....thoughs look really good, lostdreams and you dont trip in them, and tight shirts look good..hard to find a good tight long sleeve black shirt i cant seem to find one myself..

Ha ha, Trust me, they don't hurt to run in, I pretty much only wear pants by Tripp. I've taken off the chains though, their just annoying most of the time, especially since I'm still in school, they get caught in a lot of stuff, even with the chains on though, they don't hurt, their just chains hanging off your ass and connecting to your sides and legs. But when I'm out being a tard at BattleZone, they don't bother me, let me run really fast because of all the room and the good feeling-ness.

I really would not recommend these types of clothes for people who are quite poor like me because they just make you more poor by costing $60 ( rounded up ) per pair. So yea, get some cheapo pair of cargo pants and have fun with them.

If you want to buy more clothing, then go to a local thrift store or maybe even Wal-Mart if you're just looking for plain black pants and stuff. I love thrift stores though, you can find anything there. To me you can never have enough clothing. But what you have is plenty enough. But I also agree with Jillian, don't shop at Hot Topic unless you wanna blow a severe amount of money on nothing. (Although I will admit I got some cool shirts there once) that's besides the point. If you think you want more clothing, thrift stores are great. And Tripp pants are great. I love them.

I hate to shamelessly advertise, but eBay is great for cheap clothing that's hard to find. You can even purchase without a credit card on certain items. You just gotta be reeeal careful and observant.

Buy cheap clothes in the colour and basic shape you want, then add stuff to them. :3 Over here we have a shop called Primark, where they sell plain t-shirts for £2 / $4 each. They sell loads of clothes really cheaply, not just t-shirts... the quality's no worse than any other regular clothes shop, either. You should see if you have a shop like that nearby.

You can make that rivet-tape that Tripp uses on its clothes by getting some black cotton drill tape and a pack of small rivets from a fabric shop. Mark out the spacing along the center of the tape with a piece of chalk and a ruler, then make holes on the marks with a hole-punch, push a rivet through, and hammer it flat. Rinse and repeat, and you can have a never-ending supply of classy industrial black rivet-tape to sew on your sleeves, cuffs, skirts, trousers, etc, as well as hanging them off your clothes like a fabric version of Tripp's dangly chains. Nick the clips off cheap keyrings to attach stuff to your clothes. Get some D-rings and use the un-riveted tape to sew them onto your clothes for convenient chain/etc attachment. With this stuff you can modify a boring shirt to look better than a £40 (T)ripoff.

You can get short zips by stealing them from your old pairs of trousers. Just unstitch the fly. Then you can sew your zips on your new clothes for aesthetic effect. Go for zip shark gills down your side, zip-style sleeves, zip military ranks, zip decorations on the back of your jacket, etc... They don't actually need to be functional pockets.

Badges. Can't go wrong with those. Try making your own with a patch of fabric, a needle, some thread, and lots of patience. I made anti-war patches for my school shirts in 2003, which looked really cool, even though they were very low quality... If you have a sewing machine that can do words, you're in luck.

Cut out a square of fabric. Hem its edges if you want it to be neat, or just go along the rough cut edges with a sewing machine (to stop it fraying too much) if you want it to be rough. Then stitch your design into it with your needle and thread.

Fabric paint? Cut out a stencil and use a paint roller to apply some colour. It'll look as good as if it had been screen-printed. You could have Che Guevara, little flowers in different colours, net print (get some fishnet or chickenwire or something, cover it in fabric paint, press it onto your fabric like a stamp, remove it), medical crosses, gothic crosses, celtic designs, tribal patterns, anything you can think of.

Just go wild.

I absolutely adore buying second hand. Nothing looks too new. I ove online auctions. Ebay (but thats more expensive), Gothauctions is awsome (alot less expensive) You can find awsome stuff for a steal. I also think if you can sew, thats all the better. I also like going thrifting. Its soooo fun.

I don't really label myself as anything. But I have all kinds of clothes that people would consider gothic or kinda wiccan looking.
I have this one shirt that is a light rustic pink with a gold gothic looking fairy on it and it fits below the waist, its suppossed to be worn with a belt, but I just wear it as is.
I also have a dark purple fishnet long sleeved over shirt that I wear over a black bra, and sometimes over a black spagetti strap tank top.
It was from Hot Topic. I like some of Hot Topics stuff, like the band hoodies, fishnet items, shoes.

I'm curious on how I should do my hair?
Right now my hair is medium long (past my shoulders about 2 in.)
Layered, and the color is dark sandy blonde.
I look like Shakira (the Latin Pop singer) in the face.
I want to take a straight razor to my hair to get the choppy effect of layers, and get the underlayer slightly shorter ( about an inch taken off)
And get black streaks throughout my hair.
Do you think it would be a good idea?
Give me some tips of what kind of hairstyle might look good on me.

that would look awsome CemeteryAngel! i used to be blond but i dyed it all black. i also have the layers effect (done with a razor) only my hair is about 2 inches under my ear (really kind of short). you should try it and if it dosen't look good, you'll know not to do it again.
