Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

God...once again, I'm terribly Sickened...
Gooht...Of course my slight pitter patter on the MCR thing is already on this board, but I think this tragic incident is just as valuable to report to you all. Look at this, this regards ANOTHER band, now I kind of like them I'm sure some of you do as well, but still IT SHOCKS ME TO SEE THESE GUYS CONSIDERED DEATHROCK.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AFI_%28band%29
If they haven't changed it, it says at the bottom gothic 'punk'-and it will redirect you to death rock. That's just sad...Rozz Williams must be rolling in his grave to see such bad mainstream crap being considered something they're not even close to.
And now, look at this under the genre:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miss_Murder
Good gothness, this is unsurprising. The band's REAL genre: pop punk is given. Hmm, but the honest true goth or anyone with actual musical tastes will be thinking... HOW THE HELL CAN A BAND BE DEATHROCK AND POP PUNk?? WTF?? as I am.
This just basically BURNS the ignorance of the mainstream.

Goth bands (actual goth bands) such as Bauhaus and SexGang Children will eventually do something of this I hope...but after seeing the thing with My Chemical Romance, I'm...not angry at THEM but still the mainstream.

That thing on wikipedia is nothing more than a link redirection problem. 'Gothic' is often used to describe AFI's image (inaccurately or not) and so 'gothic punk' was listed under AFI's related genres (a little inaccurately - horrorpunk would have been a better choice). There's no 'gothic punk' page, so it redirects to the closest thing to gothic punk, which is deathrock. It isn't saying AFI is deathrock so you can calm down...
(And also... Rozz was cremated. No 'grave rolling' for him I'm afraid. It's kinda sad though because it means there's no hope of him coming back as a zombie )

Guess you're right. But just gothic and general punk for a mainstream pop-punk band, come on now~that's ridiculous. I also think all the attention of AFI being a goth band is silly, with their 'emo' look and hairstyle (yes Davey, I heard, did his hair like that before it started, though nowadays it means something different) which makes them an apparent target to the rest in the mainstream, like MCR. Rozz creamted? Wow, I could have sworn he was buried in the Hollywood Hills. Well then, if he sees AFI considered his genre or a fusion of what he contributed to, his soul may very well haunt the West Coast...

Rozz has a memorial at the Hollywood Forever cemetery, but his ashes were scattered at some place called 'Runyon Canyon'. So yeah, haunting would be more likely. And it would give me a great excuse to visit the West Coast again.

Where does it say they ARE a Deathrock band? It says that a Deathrock/Horror Punk influence is visible but it in no way states they are infact a Deathrock band.

Guess they most have changed it on Wiki. Though it said Gothic Punk under the genre originally, and the point overall is that the mainstream, or the general public, are getting worse with their misconceptions of dark-imaged pop punk bands.

Yeah, they've changed it.
Gothic Punk, LOLBEANS, what the hell does that mean? I though Goth was Punk?
Now it's just getting rediculous, they're mislabelling bands with self explanatory labels.

gothic punk they are still considered on this album. And what does this redirect you to? What the fusion is: deathrock.

AFI were most definitely influenced by horrorpunk in the early/middle days... Davey Havok's resemblance to Glenn Danzig was a testament to that, as well as all the Misfits covers they played. The lyrics to Black Sails in the Sunset no doubt have a gothic influence, and the EP released beforehand had a cover of the Cure's 'Hanging Garden'. Whoever did the genres for the article just put down the genre they thought best described it. If you have a problem with that you can correct it. That's what Wikipedia is all about.

'Garden' cover actual wasn't that bad in my opinion. I guess if it applies to early AFI, it now looks like perhaps they were a good band, just selling out into the mainstream as pop-punk. And yeah, Davey definetly got that duo from Danzig. So early work has goth and punk influence, though the new work is nothing trully speacial.
Ghoot....and to the side of it, I must say AFI in the mainstream is a much better representive of goth then My chemical romance.

Does it really even matter? Anyone who takes Wikipedia without a grain of salt is foolish, anyway. ANYONE can write what's on that site. I know someone who used to go in and change the dates of wars.

Guess it doesn't, anyone CAN write there, so may very well be just some mindless music-tasteless twit. Guess it doesn't matter if AFI are labeled goth either...matter of my own opinons...
