BioShock
I work at a video game store and have the option to rent out games from the store and yesterday I decided on BioShock. I could hardly stop playing. I'm a huge fan of shooters, but this one takes the cake. It's brilliant in every sense of the word. Not your typical boring run-of-the-mill "go here, shoot these guys" game. It's not everyday you get to alter your own DNA to be able to shoot lightning, fire, or even a swarm of killer hornets from your fingers. Also, I like how it avoided being cheesey and wasn't placed in the future. Instead, it was placed in 1960 with a sort of retro-technology edge (neon signs in a city underwater, propeller powered flying sentry guns, etc.). Anyone else here play?

Yes. It's lovely. I have a Big Daddy statuette standing in my shelf.
And if you want a more indepth look at Rapture's and Andrew Ryans philosophy then read Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" or any book regarding Objectivism.

The retrofuture's lovely, and as a game it's excellent- wonderful little moral thing about killing the kid or not... but all the 'anti pirate' software they insist on including in it kinda worries me. There's a lot of nasty stuff that's effectively spyware in there, and it's killed more than a few DVD writers.

Oh man. I want one. I love how near the beginning you see that jerk get totally drilled through the gut by the Big Daddy for pistol whipping that little girl. Haha. The gore is so very graphic and I love it.
Also, can we agree that BioShock by itself absolutely pwns the entire, greatly overrated, Halo trilogy?

Most games beat Halo. Although they're fun in co-op. BioShock in co-op would've been neat.
If you want more retro-future, then try out Crimson Skies. Air pirates in an alternative 1930's.

Haha! Yes.
BioShock co-op: "Hey, you telikinetically levitate that corpse, I'll set it on fire with Incinerate, and then you send it flying down the hall into the group of baddies standing in that big puddle of gasoline and we'll mop up the survivors with Tommy guns. It'll be a BLAST! Quite literally."
Oh man. If only.

Hah. I just don't have the heart to kill them (even though it's only a game). They're just so adorable. In a creep possessed kinda way. Hahaha.
Anyone else annoyed as HELL when looking at the damn vending machines? "Welcome to the circus of value!" GAH! I just want to destroy the damn thing.

Hah. The Winter Blast plasmid is pwnage. I also love hacking the flying sentry gun-bots. They're such a help. I had three go against a Big Daddy. It was great, though it was as if the Big Daddy was swatting flys. Haha.

You get a better ending if you save all the little sisters, it is quite beautiful really.

I didn't say what the end was, I merely said it was beautiful. It could be an ending where all the mutated freaks in the city get together hold hands and have a camp fire while eating the remains of their dead breatheren singing kumbiya.

You gave away the fact your NOT supposed to kill everyone, else it gives a different ending.
Thats like a major plot spoiler, one of the biggest parts of the game.

I've heard news of ideas for sequils. I don't know if they were just stories or actual plans. The second one would be called "BioShock: Topside" and it takes place in 1975 on an island. A terrorist group has harvested stuff from Rapture and everything on the island is mutated. The terrorist leader is a grown up Little Sister and she has a Big Big Daddy.
The third one would be called "BioShock: Rapture Rising" and takes place in 1990. The grown up Little Sister, failing in the second one, decides to raise Rapture to the surface to continue what Ryan had started. She and her terrorists harvest more things and all of the Big Daddies and splicers and everything return, but with new technological twists. And you still get plasmids in all of them.
I really hope that they don't make these cause they sound lame in comparison.

I liked the game, Kevin Manthei did a good job with the music, I've been a fan of his music since Invader Zim.

Does anyone else find it oddly adorable when the Little Sisters say "Ninny poppies"? Or is it just me? Hah.
