Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

Oh, Pitseleh, I'm sure you're not alone. I think I have an excuse though- I'm more than half-German, so it's kind of a national pride thing to me (despite the fact that I have never been to Germany and barely speak and German!).

We're taught german in schools here. nasty bit of work, that language. lucky me, I'm off it, back to international school for me ^_^
the only thing I'm ever going to use german for is when reading what it says on the cheap german beer, and for de-coding Rammstein or other german metal lyrics.
It would be so much smarter of them to teach us Spanish or Chinese :/ but oh no, "Germany trades a lot with Denmark, blah blah blah..." so we have to be taught german, even though they are being taught english too! fuck the government ):

I had a friend once who took Russian. I was all like,"WTF?! What will you use that for?" I mean, it's not as if we do a lot of business with Russia here in the U.S., aside from the occasional arms trade. It would be more practical to learn Spanish, but since most people are being taught English all over the world, I really don't see the point in learning another language if they can already speak mine!

People learn Latin, even if they aren't going into law or science...
Then again, I guess a lot of people still do business with the Roman Empire.

Rammstein, a BAND composed of a few members including a former German Olympic athlete as the vocals, extremely theatrical onstage, rather simple and very professional (like everything german...), controversy a must, on themes as varied as national-socialist style aesthetics (basically goth with a bit of steroids thrown in with the meth...), child abuse or even the name itself (Rammstein, now a US air base was a town that was utterly, completely bombed to rubble by the allies in WWII), and they sing in german which gives every song that military edge that many try to achieve but seldom do more than copy.
MM, the man, the band, the legend, the myth, pretty much the same thing Alice Cooper and Ozzy did in their day, but adapted to fit today. Interesting cover artist though...
As for the nazi thingie? I just mentioned Rammstein, but they are german, but there's Laibach, and Siouxsie also got some flack right at the beginning of the Banshees for sparking up controversy with a swastika armband...
It's kinda like biting the head off a bat, (or was it a pigeon?), it gets people going "yeah", others going "argh", and a few like me going "WTF?!". It gets cardinal O'Connor coming out in the NY Post saying Ozzy's a devil worshipper.
Ozzy's reply to M.ighty T.ight V.egge (mtv) with his drug-and-alchool-ridden slurr: "I'm not a devil worshipper! I don't conjure the devil up. It takes all my time just to conjure myself outt'a bed in the mornin', let alone conjure the devil up."
It sells. < (period)
I can't believe someone like Ozzy is doing reality shows and we're still quabling over MM, when all he did was show up 25 years or so later.
I dunno, like something shakesperean, it's much ado about a midsummer night's wet dream or sumthin'...
And for the record: you don't have to be an englishman to speak the Queen's english. If we can get mandarin chinese, brazillians, swedes, serbians, greeks, norwegians, austrians and a few other nations speaking in english, I don't see how being turkish hinders you from communicating properly with us. Not succeeding is fine, not trying is nothing but bullshit to me.
I'm portuguese, by the way.
I mean, if aussies and Kiwis can speak the queen's english (despite the kiwis saying fesh when they mean fish and sheep when they mean sex...), I don't see why all you other convicts here can't.
 wot?

I took six years of Latin in school. And enjoyed every verb I conjugated..
Haha..
I also speak Spanish.. Cant write in it very well, but I can read and comprehend it almost as well as I speak it.
My nanny was from El Salvador, and I was just a baby when she came to live with us. She spoke no English and my parents were gone most of the time, so I dont even remember learning it. I simply absorbed it the same way I would have if it was my first language.
Spanish simply became as English was to me. I can think in it, just like I do in English..
I think it's pretty Effin cool and I have used it sooooooo many times over the years..
People appreciate being spoken to in their own language, it makes them feel at ease with you. Especially if they are a stranger in a strange land..
Plus it is a beautiful language, and there are some amazing poets out there I would miss out on if I didnt speak Spanish..
So I see much value in being bilingual, trilingual or whatever you choose to expand your horizons to include.

yeah, i hate Rammstien not because they're bad, but because the steal the credit deserved by Laibach (who are better musicly and have that glorious tongue-in-cheek poker-face thing going on so you don't quite know if they're being serious or not. plus they're fucking anthemic (if thats a word. if not it should be).

Actually, Mr. Maelstrom, it was a bat and a dove, just so ya know. I like that Ozzy quote you had in there about it "taking all my time just to conjure myself outta bed." Hahah! Did I ever tell about how someone noticed I was an Ozzy fan and tried to get me to decapitate a bat?

There are only 2 things I like about Manson. The song Beautiful People and his confidence.
I dont hate him, but his music isnt really my style.
