Yeah, it was crazy over there. Downtown was in a lock down, people got arrested for just being there (I know anecdotal information isn't great but this is what people who were in jail were saying, members of the media got arrested even when they had media passes, people got picked up for being at the wrong place at the wrong time and trying to take pictures of the damage and police brutality), they weren't read their rights, got their phone call, and a few apparently got held over the maximum 24 hours (as long as they can hold you before they charge you.) One woman said that in the cage next to her police were holding this seventeen year old girl alone and watching her go to the bathroom, its disgusting. The Canadian government isn't winning over any hearts.
Apparently people are saying that the police let the Black Bloc (the group apparently responsible for all the damage) go for the most part. Its NOT a group that is 600 members strong. I think anarchist groups here are going to be the scapegoat for the violence and they're using them as an excuse already for the police brutality:
http://calgary.ctv.ca/servlet/an/loc...ub=CalgaryHome
I haven`t heard back yet from some friends, all I`ve heard from Feminist RebELLEs so far was a woman being illegally searched for the way she was dressed (this wasn`t at a protest, it was at a street corner away from it), I`m worried about their members since a lot of them identify as anarchist.
I`m trying not to watch too many videos but this one in particular I thought was stupid, protesters getting attacked after peacefully singing O Canada.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Heb9BXjYcII
Also a good article about this type of police tactics: http://www.thestar.com/article/82887...o-phony-script
And a couple who`s house got broken into by police and held at gunpoint talk about what happened:

They are.
I just watched a video of a journalist who was arrested for being there despite having a press pass recount her story, she talks about being threatened with **** and other women being strip searched and one being assaulted.
http://vimeo.com/12925239
Its aggravating and disgusting. And the police and Harper are patting themselves on the back for a job well done.

Yeah, this is nothing new. Every G20/G8/G4/WTO/IMF they have had for the past decades have had pretty much the same outcome.
They even made a Hollywood movie about this - The Battle For Seattle.
Seems a bit passe these days.
Not that I am excuse the obvious abuse of power by police in every case, just that everyone seems to get all riled for a few days after the event, then miraculously forgets it ever happened and everyone goes back to their lives...until eight months later when the exact same thing happens again.

I'm not trolling, this ties in directly to what I've been posting in the infowar/prisonplanet thread.
It's interconnected.
Sternn, wouldn't you say the use of force by police has been getting worse and worse as each meeting goes on?
Also why did the Police choose to crack down the hardest on protesters that weren't burning cop cars and causing damage to public as well as private property?
If it's any fucking indication it will get worse...all because some assholes show up for a super secret meeting about bringing the world together under one Government.
A NEW WORLD ORDER!
But don't mind the guy trying to warn you of impending doom,go on back to grazing and bahing with the rest of the flock, like a good little sheep.

Maybe to the rest of the world, but everyone here is in a state of shock over this. We've been riled up for months now, but a lot of us were pretty positive about it. In the video I first posted its people singing O Canada arm in arm, pretty naive I guess, before they're rushed and one get gets trampled by the police. Canadian police were never perfect, I didn't have an image of them being so, we have our stories too of them tasering people to death and being racist, but thats always excused as bad apples. This is the first time in recent years, on such a large scale that corruption seemed so systematic, and brutal.
That and as individuals, even us here were affected. I'm still waiting to hear from family and friends, I don't know if they're okay, a lady I volunteer with had a family member in Toronto go missing a week ago and they only started looking for him today, saying they were way too busy with G8 to go looking.
Its a weird feeling. A lot of us are mad, but we're very shocked. Again, its not like we thought this country was perfect or anything, I mean more cop cars get set on fire during Stanley Cup finals, its just a feeling like...ever see that Twilight Zone episode, The Shelter, and at the end where the neighbors say they can have a party and everything will go back to normal? And then Bill says, "...Normal? ...I don't know what normal is. I thought I did once; I don't anymore."

Welcome to the real world, and that is only the start, things will get worse unless you and your fellow citizens of Canada do something about it.

For the first time I have decided to utilize that function.
Indeed, it shall become a sweet sight.

You cannot shove information down a person's throat, the louder you yell the harder people plug their ears, the harder you hit, the more numb they become to the pain. You can try to hammer it into their skulls, but like would happen with a nail, it would merely mess things up further. Your efforts defeat themselves. Stop.

Deadmanwalking_05, we've never communicated before (for the record, I have no interest in politics whatsoever ~ the literature section is my haunt). However, I have read some of your posts as well as those directed at you. Such dramatic and bitter feuding is hard to miss. Since people here disagree with you so, perhaps it's time that you should just say "F*ck you all" and join a different site?
I'm not being condescending (I've no reason to be), but Renatus is right: you cannot force someone else to see things your way. You've been here for over two years, and at this point you must realize that nothing is going to change. If you can find a place where people agree with you or will at least listen to / respect your opinions, it will surely be so much better for you and for them as well. Don't you think so? The internet is vast after all. I don't believe that you are here simply because you enjoy arguing; I honestly cannot fathom how anyone could enjoy contetion, strife, and insults. Your response to Miss Saya suggests that you're not really enjoying yourself. Consider it.

This. Do you really have to let him do this to every thread he posts in? If you want to insult the guy that bad (an understandable sentiment), he's made plenty of All About Deadman threads where you can do so without playing right into his hands in actual discussions.

So, how would you respond if he said such comments about you?

Considering he obviously doesn't mean it and has absolutely no clue in the slightest what he's talking about I'd probably just pity him. Either that or congratulate him on his stunningly effective trollery.

Don't respond and put him on ignore so you don't have to see it. Or you could report it if it bothers you that much, people have gotten banned for less.
And yeah, stop quoting him, people! Some of us blissfully have him on ignore.
