Steampunk is the New Hot Topic
You heard it here first.
OH. MY. GOD. STEAMPUNK *________*;; SQUEEEEEEE
Seriously. It's a shame, but what the fuck. Steampunk was a beautiful thematic abstract; it doesn't look good when real human beings in real life wear it as clothing. You look like a god damned clown, and although a steam-powered robotic clown that was invented in an alternate timeline where electricity never caught on, still a clown.
You must be a clown, because you would have to live in a funhouse, admiring yourself in a distorted mirror, to think you don't look 200% faqqot. And your circus is killing this aesthetic. Oh wait, it's already done.
BEGIN COUNTDOWN TO "STEAM ROCK" BANDS WHICH SOUND LIKE SCREAMO AND LOOK LIKE STEAMPUNK
YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST

Oh it's probably true but everything gets bastardized eventually and honestly I'm making a profit off the current interest in stempunk so I'm not gonna complain.

Actually I'm just glad it's not my imagination. It's a shame though, really. mad propz @ Despanan for telling it like it is + mad propz @ myself for saying the same thing two years later.

Wow, that vest isn't even really... all that... steampunk.. you could get that at Walmart... super lame.
I do like me some steampunk though.. I likes the music and I find the aesthetic quite pleasing.
Who cares if its faggy.. its not any faggier than being goth.

I love the look of steampunk. I have always loved that gears and pulleys look. As far as wearing it goes, i like touches of it from time to time, brass buttons, a skeleton pocket watch, even a clockwork ring. I love it all, however, a full on steampunk outfit is a bit overboard fro me. I have seen it pulled off well but that was in a situation were everyone was dressed up. For day to day i would say touches of it are great.

^ Same here, though not the HT version; HT isn't very good at emulating these kinds of things any more.
Genuine Steampunk stuff is gorgeous, though, and can be easily toned-down for an everyday look.
I think the OP was on crack when they posted this. One fashion subculture saying another looks stupid always amuses me.

Then which fashion subculture does OP belong to? Surely you don't mean goth because 1. implying goth is a fashion based subculture is retarded (though you wouldn't be able to tell that it isn't given the current state of things), and 2. implying that OP is a goth (probably because this site has "Gothic" in the title) is equally retarded unless you know a hell of a lot about OP. If you do then, whatever, I don't know.
I agree wit da OP.

I like the DIY aspect of the whole thing, but there doesn't seem to be much of that anymore considering there are ready to wear pieces everywhere.

This KILLS me. I have loved steampunk (I was'nt really wearing any steampunk clothes until the end of 8th grade, even if I'd admired it.) for a while. Maybe since I was 11? Heh. I was a little 'emo kid' in middle school, but became more steampunk after that.
The chavs in my school make fun of the emo kids at my school, but dress emo and get emo hair. The actual emos get REALLY pissed over it. the chavs also think dressing like a nerd (3D glasses with the lenses popped out-- It looks WRETCHED.)
*sighs* I truely hate it when people steal your thunder. . .

I think Steampunk is super cool, and I love touches of it added to outfits.
And the HT vest looked Ok, but as a chainstore vest, and not something Steampunk.

Not these ones, puddin'... Its been a long time. Between boring styles, ridiculous sizing and cookie cutter fashions, I've gone back to making my own clothes, the same as I did before we got one out here.

Steampunk is cool, especially if you go to a thrift store and find some old handmade piece with some personality to it. I really like the idea of 'the future that never was'. Flying ships would be awesome!
That vest was ok, but it need some watch chain or faux fur or something...
