Washing machine dyeing?

I recently bought a new pair of pants, and it has that fake 'wearing' where they kill the coloring. Could someone tell me how or post a link that explains how to dye clothes in the washing machine?

If you're going to dye your pants black or some other dark color, you really need to use the stovetop method. Washing machine water is not hot enough to get a good dark dye job, and it cools off quickly as it sits there.
Instructions that tell you to leave the fabric in the dye for 30 minutes are crazy - you need more like 3 hours for a decent dye job.
In my experience, the only fabrics that dye well are 100% (or nearly 100%) cotton.

Keep in mind that simmering cotton clothes for 3 hours may cause them to shrink.

Even if they do shrink, they'll stretch back out over time.

Where would I find good dye? Do you know if the RIT powder solution works well?

Anywho,in my experience RIT dye does a horrible job and usually bleeds out after the first wash. I'd find something better then that,you might have more luck then I did,but it doesn't seem to work very well.

Mike Stivik was his "Real" name and "Meathead" was the nickname Archie gave him,because he was Polish(They show the re-runs on TVLand)

RIT dye might work for you,but that was just my experience with it.

No problem,
That was just a tip to keep in mind for future posts,basically make sure everything you want to say is spelled correctly while avoiding Netspeak(LOL etc),and you should be fine.

I think you should leave the grammar advice to those who don't randomly capitalize words like "Correct" and "Capitalization" and do know that a space follows a punctuation mark.

Back to the subject at hand:I know that RIT dye is available almost everywhere,but where would one go to find something else(Stronger?). I've actually tried craft-type stores and nobody really seems to have anything;and I really don't want to buy something online.

Oh,and remember that putting dyes of any kind into your washing machine(Or any other container) could result in stains. Read those instructions.

I just wouldn't recommend using the washer,as TOIB said the water isn't hot enough to set the dye(Plus the risk of staining). And trying to find a container large enough to hold a pair of pants could be hard. So if you want to use the washer method,just be sure to clean any leftover dye with bleach and water(It shouldn't affect any future clothes being cleaned if you make sure all the dye is removed before it dries).

I've also seen RIT dye that is availabe pre-mixed in a plastic bottle. That might be an idea,instead of using one envelpoe of dye you could increase the strength with the liquid.
