It is true, there was a major study done a few years ago where the moms were asked to read a specific book every day for the last month of their pregnancy. After the babies were born (I think a week or so after birth) they were placed in a room and given these special pacifiers that controlled what the headphones they were wearing played (depending on the rate they sucked). One group was given the chance to choose between a recording of their mother reading the book and a stranger reading the same book, no surprise they picked their mother's voice. The other group was able to choose between their mother reading a different book and a stranger reading the book that had been read to them, the majority of the babies picked the stranger reading the book that had been read to them.
