The cool thing about Karma is that it kind of rights the wrongs in your life, bad shitty stuff happens then good fun stuff happens, the problem is my Karma seems to be on crack. My cat dies (well my brother's cat but I still loved her very much) but I get a car (well I have to share it with my brother but its still a car that I can drive). My uncle dies but my mom gets a raise so I can then afford to go on a school trip to Greece. Then my dad gets lung cancer, I get to live all by myself in the middle of nowhere while still in high school, I get shitty grades but I get into my first choice university. I get shitty grades and have like a 1.4 as my gpa for my first semester because I get strep throat three times and am out for school for a week each time and I get really depressed because my father, who I love and trust more than anyone else in the world is dieing and I can't even be there to comfort him, but I have my first boyfriend that really cares about me and whose family takes me in as a second daughter. He dies and now I get a good job (being a file clerk for $9 an hour), I'm getting a car, and for the first time in my life my mother believes me when I say that I need to see someone about my depression issues. And that's all in less than three years. It’s bad enough that there are so many ups and downs but I’m also bipolar so on top of everything I’m on a continuous emotional rollercoaster. *GRRRR*

I don't know why I am feeling so depressed today. I think because for all of the effort I have done to better myself through two tours in college, the fields of study I undertook and graduated in (History and English: Creative Writing) are seemingly meaningless in modern society. That is, at least where I live, where nobody can speak the language nor do they care to discuss literature for leisure. Everyone with whom I am forced to associate are all trying to beat the system or leach off the system, or are just bums. (I currently work with a transit agency).

I am not trying to sound conceited. I am not even looking for a cadre of kindred spirits. Hell, just one. It's one thing online to find camaraderie with like minded people but that too is getting rare. Maybe I'm just too freaking serious. I don't know. I like talking history, poetry, and about stories and what they MEAN not simply what they are about. I feel really isolated and it just really sucks sometimes....like now.

The world is so full of illiterate people. I remember last year a few of us got together to study for exams and shared notes, essays etc. I remember reading one in which the girl could barely string a coherent sentence together, let alone use grammar properly.

This was her coursework, exactly as she'd handed it in. And we were all of eight weeks away from a degree... in LITERATURE. Fuckin' sigh.

It's so nice to come here and be able to say that without people looking at me blankly and saying "why're you so bothered?" *hugs you all*

What the fuck is up with Christian Yoga?? How is it okay to take a very important piece of culture from a particular ethnic group, and bastardize it because you feel that it isn't something you want to practice? If you don't like the Hindu tie-in to Yoga, now here's a crazy idea, THEN DON'T DO IT. Or make up your own damn thing. And why bitch about Hindus anyway?? I have many Hindu friends, and they are upright, morally responsible people, with a deep connection to a higher spiritual power. Christ, they aren't Satanists or Heathens. WTF?

Although, I am able to make money from the illiterate people by typing their papers.

It's dirty money! DIRTY I tell you!

This should in no way be interpreted as bitterness for the fact that I didn't think of exploiting them first...

*SIGH*

I grade essays for these standardized tests they give in elementary and high school. You would not believe the low standards they have for students taking these exams as juniors. It is terribly sad, and every year, they drop the bar more.

The one I am scoring for right now is a scale from 1 - 4. Young adults that are writing with what should be about a 7th grade level, are getting the highest grade by their scoring criteria. I come across maybe 5 truly well-written essays in a few hundred.

Can I go drink myself into a coma now...? I'm raising a kid in this educationally backwards society.

What?

I was reading and writing at a high school level when I was a sixth grader.

Of course, back then the schools were not falling apart and people actually wanted to pay teachers.

You know what I think can sometimes be a factor? Parents censoring wha their kids read too much and only letting them have "kiddie" books, which can bore the shit out of them - especially if they're on the precocious side. My mother NEVER censored my reading material - I was allowed to read absolutely anything I wanted. I read my first Richard Layman at age nine, so instead of "here is Jane. See Jane run", it was murder and **** and all sorts of fucked up shit. And you know what? It kept me reading, and got me fascinated. A lot of children's books bored me. Books were a way into things I never would have been allowed to know otherwise. I think that generally people don't trust their kids enough to know the difference between fiction and reality - we forget what it's like to be a kid so quickly, that I think we often underestimate them. I can certainly understand why a lot of parents wouldn't want their young kids reading someone like Layman, but my personal experience was a good one, and I'm gonna let my kids read whatever they want to.

Yes, I know. I was the same way. I don't know what has happened. Lack of pay, maybe. I think we have a growing issue of accountability in this country (USA) right now too. My employer informed me that they were being sued by parents who didn't feel we were grading fairly - i.e. letting their kid whom they obviously do not try to nurture educationally, slide. So they lowered the standards, again. We are breeding mediocre adults. If you look at any study that compares educational standards to other countries, you'll get a real glimpse into just how far we have slid down this slippery slope.

I got home last night to a note on the door saying power had been turned off because of lack of payment. Open the >unopened< bill sitting on my roommate's desk to see the Final Notice of a few days past. Call him at his pool league to divine that he did in fact pay it online as is his habit. The bill suggests two months unpaid... fine. Call the company to discover that the last payment they have on record was from... December. Well, we need fucking power, so I pay the $120 the bill was, the $170 the 'reinstatement' fee is, and some goddamned $5.25 'convenience' fee for doing it all over the phone, only to discover that, if we don't see the guy in the truck in the next two hours (to wit, by 2300) then he'll be around on the morrow between 0800 and 1700, but not to worry, it's guaranteed within 24 hours of payment.

...

So I get up this morning at 0730, shower, and wait. Waiting.

Time passes...

More time passes...

I decided to make a phone call, but because the company's call center was so busy I should try back again later.

I try back at 1630, and discover they've closed for the day, but then get transferred to their emergency line. Turns out the guy in the truck came by...

... oh, just you wait for this...

...1100 this morning. All that needed to happen was for the apartment complex people to flip the breakers in the utility room for my building. Too bad they didn't bother to tell me or the apartment this fact.

blood will flow for this...

I have to figure out where to go to school next year and it is driving me nuts! I was pretty convinced that I want to be a teacher until my boyfriend, Keith, mentioned that I really should think about going to a school that offers mortuary science courses since I have always talked about being a mortician. The closest school that offers mortuary science courses is Mt. Hood Community College in Portland, which means that if I want to go we have to move down there. On the other hand, if I still want to become a teacher I could take courses at Evergreen College here in Olympia.

I have ALWAYS thought seriously about becoming a mortician because I feel like I would be good at helping people who are in need, and the thought of working with dead bodies does not freak me out. If I decide to proceed with going to school for that I would actually want to work with the bodies more and be behind the scenes. It's a HUGE responsibility preparing the bodies but I feel that I am caring enough and responsible enough to do it.

WHAT AM I GOING TO DO????!!!!! ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, being a public school teacher is a very intensive job - what with planning class schedules and grading homework, etc. It's a lot of work you don't necesarily get paid for.

I bet not only would you recieve better pay as a mortician but you'd probably enjoy it more than dealing with kids.

You are right about that. The whole 'becoming a teacher' thing appeals to me because I will be making a difference. I would want to teach high school age kids. Sure, it would be a lot of work but I think I would make a great teacher. At least better than most of the dull, lackluster ones that taught me.

I've always wondered, didn't teachers these days once feel the same way? That they would be the cool and interesting teacher who was adored by the students? I think as teachers start out, they are cool and interesting like that, but as they get further into their career, it starts to take a turn. The exception is my English teacher. No doubt in the world that she is the greatest example of a teacher who loves her career and students. She never fails to make me happy.

Horrorgirl, there's no doubt in the world that you would be a great teacher.

Horrorgirl, I think it would be a great thing to be a mortician. Having someone behind the scenes who genuinely cares for the final care of the deceased and their family.

I can remember a couple of funerals where it didn't even look like much attention had been paid to properly laying out the corpse. My Great Aunt's eyes weren't even closed all the way and my Great Grandfather looked liked someone had filled him to the brim with stuffing. They both looked horrible. I wish the people who were supposed to have taken care of them had been more meticulous in their work.

I'm leaning nore towards being a teacher at the moment. Maybe I could create a new field of business in which you can teach teens while embalming corpses? *thinks deeply*

So, I told myself I wouldn't rant about it any more. Most specifically not after having already ranted about it to DA, but I can't help it, I need to shoot it out somewhere else too. So, here goes.

I'm sure some of you may remember hearing about my idiot "friends" and their idea for my visiting them in So Cal to be their third and so on and so forth? Well, guess what, there's a new layer to that madness now.
I made the mistake of randomly IMing the guy because his screen name made me laugh, and so T thought I'd thank him for the laugh. Bad idea. He starts in immediately about how he can't talk because he's on the phone with a girl from Iowa he met online on Wednesday. Someone he's now referring to as, more or less, his new best friend. Apparently she is visiting him and his girlfriend in So Cal the week I was going to be there before I "callously rejected" him. So apparently not only am I not wanted because I don't want to fuck him and his girlfriend's brains out, I'm that easily replaceable as well. Rawr!

Normally I don't rant, but now I just need an outlet for my frustration.

So it's monday morning. I have to go to work. I clean up houses for eldery or physically disabled people. Normally we get the clients adresses the friday before the week we have to work. Well, this was the case last friday, so no harm was done, yet...

I start at 9, and what do you know, 8.59 the planners call me and say the first client is on vacation, so I ask them if they have another client for me, because monday and tuesday are reserved for this job. They tell me they haven't got another client for me yet, but they'll look for it. Now it's 11.24 am, and I STILL haven't recieved a call from them. So the good thing is that I have a morning off, but the bad thing is that
they'll probably call me tomorrow to ask if I can do one client on wednesday, thursday or friday, which I can't, because I have an other job those days. And because I can't, this morning off, which was not my mistake AT ALL, will cost ME money! I mean, do they really expect from me that I keep my entire week off in case THEY can't do their fucking job??? And above that, I'll be punished for THEIR lazyness.
Because, on top of that, they KNEW last friday my client was on vacation, so in my opinion, they had PLENTY of time to search for another client!

AAAAARRRGGHHHH, I hate being depended on some fools who can't do their job properly!

btw, this is not the first time I experienced problems like this with them...

I'm going to arrange an appointment with my manager real soon!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!
