Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

It is what it is, regardless of how stupid the rest of the population is. You can't just will something into being something else.

That's true.
If 99% of the population decided to call an apple a peach, and a peach an apple, then we would be calling it a peach.
That doesn't change what it is, but it changes the label given to it.
Besides, who said that we should call an apple... an apple? You know?
So yeah, it is what it is, but the label changes along with people's perception of it. Just like "hardcore" used to be elvis, and now it's something different.
I mean, people could call an apple blue if they wanted to label this color as blue.

This doesn't happen very often in the fruit world, but in genres, it happens constantly.
The point I'm getting at is that I don't think that other dude should be stressing himself out trying to learn what to label certain music when it's different to everybody.
If he tries to learn what to label it from 3 different people... he's going to get confused, so there's not a point in trying to learn what he should call it, when there's no definite answer.
It's like trying to figure out what to label as heavy metal.
Some label it as Ozzy, some as Manson, some as Rob Zombie, some as slipknot.
There's no definitive answer here, so it's impossible to know what to call it.

Yes, there is. Fruits and veggies are two different things, both are predefined by a name. So calling a fruit a veggie is plain wrong because there is a commonly accepted definition for both.
Labels are good for a lot of things. While it is true that you can change the definition or the name if the majority wants to, it doesn't change what it is. So regardless of what you call it, there still is a name for it.
If I had to explain to you what the danish word "kløpind" is without translating it, I wouldn't get away with calling it an object and expecting you to understand.
I would have to describe it further, thereby you have the use of details.
Music genres are details for music.

"Apple" is just a name we've given it, and used to identify it.
That's fine.
It's defined as a red (apple shaped? xD) fruit.
There isn't any 100% certain definition for certain genres for the most part.
Sub-genres just seem a little hard to categorize.
It's just whatever somebody wants to call it, which gets annoying.
I mean even places that sell the albums, like itunes, rhapsody, etc, give the bands completely different genres.
Again, I'm not saying that changing the name would change what it is... but I was making the point that there is no way to 100% define a sub-genre, and it tends to change for everyone.
I mean, do you realize how many different genres people think "rob zombie" belongs in?
Industrial, heavy metal, pop, nu-metal, metal, hip hop.
It's so fucking ridiculous to try to stress yourself out trying to figure out what certain bands are supposed to be labeled, when so many different people have accepted so many different labels for it.
There is no definitive label for it, like the definition of an apple, or banana... so I personally would just not fuck with it.
To me it's the same as trying to figure out the "best" color.
It's different for everyone.
There is no best color.
So it's pointless (in my opinion) to try to stress over finding out which is best.
OOHHH fuck me. I suck at explaining.
Seriously, I know what I'm talking about, but I can't get it into words.
>_<

Evanescence, Slipknot, Owl City, Never Shout Never, Green Day, Simple Plan, and Pearl Jam. I despise them all.

I hate that song that's on the rap stations where the girl's singing about "'til we see the sunlight" and then she does this weird white-girl-from-the-valley rap about having "plenty of beer".
Whoever she is, I hate her.
Edit: Just looked it up. The song is called Tik Tok by someone named Kesha.

Wow, look at how dumb you are*. Anyway, to contribute, I loathe Clint Black, Kenny Chesney, and any other similar acts. Also Lil' Wayne: he's just a squeaky midget with amateurish rhymes.
*Not really, just a difference of opinion

It´s not a question of will. Our definitions are typically inconsummate.
Also, there is absolutely no proof that you cannot will something into being something else.
Enjoy your cosy shelter.

I have a certain hatred for one musician by the name of Miley Cyrus. If any person would be so kind as to point me to her residence, I would greatly appreciate it, as would my kitchen knives.
