Yeah, it was hard to win that argument; he's right in pretty much all aspects regarding the legal entitlement of Congress to enact such a day. You chose the wrong side of the argument, man.

National day of prayer? I'm out of the loop with that one. Never heard of it.
Edit: Just looked into it. EPIC fail.

Agh, I need a dress for a friends wedding in June, but despite seeing some really nice wiggle/pencil dresses I can't have any of them yet, because I need to lose more weight and should hopefully be a different size by then. BUT I NEED DRESSES NAOW! Grrr <_<.
Also, the agency sent us a really shit temprary worker who lasted half a fucking day before going home. Her job? The oh so difficult task of putting 6 rolls in a box, sealing said boxes, and when she has a few done, labelling them and stacking them on the pallette. She didn't even have to make up fresh boxes and keep up with the machine, bacuse we were using up a stack of pre - used boxes which were already made and ready to go.
I know it's not a terribly exciting job but there are FAR worse/more boring jobs, and considering the current economical climate and the fact so many people are out of work and in need of employment, it's pretty weak of her to just walk out at lunch like that.
You could tell she didn't want to be there from the getgo, face like a slapped arse and an attitude to match. Miserable ungrateful shitbag. Why join an employment agency if you clearly can't be bothered to work? She can't be as badly off as all that if she can just walk out on a whim.

Gah we are so understaffed. I had to come in early today because my coworker who is suposed to have her last day tomorrow decided that she was done half way through her shift today. Thankfully my manager was okay with covering part of her shift as I had plans to meet my mother from lunch (as she was on her way back home from the beach) and to give her a mother's day present, but still I only got a quick 45 minutes with my mother instead of an hour and 45. I haven't seen her in well over a month and I was really looking forward to spending some time with her.
Also because of a different coworker leaving (because he job is "too hard") I only get one day off this week. At least I get overtime.
*sigh*
At least the new girl will start training this week and will be able to be on her own next week.

My son is 26 and needs a ride to his girlfriend's house.
Mrs. Humane and I tell him no, because we want to force him into independence so that we are not giving him rides to his girlfriend's house when he is 52. We have bought him two cars already and he totaled one, and sold the other. It is up to himself to get his 3rd fucking car.
I think there was some tribal custom in the world somewhere, where a young man could not get a bride until he had his own livestock and hut. Good custom.

Turns out after talking to my son last night that this is exactly how he feels, and is why he wanted to talk to his girlfriend last night.
He feels tremenous pressure from himself as well as from me for his current state of affairs, and knows he needs to get a new job, a car and get out on his own, but is having no luck. He showed me a handwritten list of all the places he has applied at (and Mrs. Humane confirmed she drove him to these places), and has gone beyond frustration and fallen into despair.
Now I feel like shit for giving him a hard time earlier.

I wouldn't. He gets that response from you now because of years of bad behavior. He can't expect that he puts forward a little effort to do the right thing and suddenly you should be falling all over yourself to show how proud of him you are.
Don't feel guilty. He sold the second car, remember? This is still the same person, and one day or a few weeks efforts do not offset all that.
I remember when I moved in with my SO and her teenage daughters were still at home going to high school. They would lie all the time ... I sometimes could actually see their eyes roll up to the corner as they were working out the fib they were about to tell in response to our questions. And then, when they had not been caught in a lie for a month, they would get all indignant if we questioned something they said. "You just don't trust us" they'd say, trying to make me feel guilty. "Damn straight I don't. You've lied to me too often." And the pouting would start ... which always made me suspicious that they WERE lying again. (That proved to be true pretty often. They still don't know all the lies I caught that I didn't confront them on.)
Eventually, they both got it that a long time to me was years of being honest (as a matter of character).
Do tell him that you are glad he is making some effort, but don't tell him you are proud until he gets (and KEEPS!) a job. Ditto for when he gets and keeps a car ... and gets his own place.
There are lots of people making some effort in this economy and some of them are going to work harder and get jobs and some of them will turn their disappointment with not getting what they want easily enough into an excuse to fall into self-pity and do nothing more.
Don't feel guilty. Do let him use the phone to talk to his girlfriend. If he wants to get over to her place, tell him to work harder at getting a job.
Now the only thing I have to do to make this sound complete is to go out on my porch and yell at some teenagers to "TURN DOWN THAT NOISE!"

I can't find my leather jacket. This contains my car and house keys. This is bad.

I found a baby bird on the sidewalk last night.. he had fallen out of his nest (bit too young to be a fledgling) and on to the sidewalk. I took him with me when I picked Kontan up from work, then tried to warm him up and help him pull through. Sadly, because of his injuries, he went in to shock and died about two hours after I found him.

That's tough. It was nice of you to try to save it. I had the same thing happen with a baby squirrel once. I found it huddling alone under our dryer vent so I took it in. It lasted about 2 weeks then took sick and died. My dad was the tallest thing in the house, so guess what it liked to climb upon?
My dad grew up on a farm and thought all mice, chipmunks, gophers and squirrels were just rodents and pests to be dealt with. In hindsight, I have to say I should have been more impressed with how patient and kind he was to that creature.

Prayer is personal. To make it into a social movement is a power grab, little else.

Awww, my uncle rennovated my grandfather's house after he died, and he laid traps around because of a squirrel problem. He killed a squirrel...and then found its babies. He felt so bad he took them in, but when he had to go back to Nova Scotia he figured they wouldn't let him take them on the ferry with him, and he has big dogs at his house anyway, so he asked me to take them in. I was living with my mom at the time and she wouldn't hear of it, after I got to play with them and feed them and get super attached to them, she made my uncle take them in the woods and abandon them.

ACK! ... ummm, I think that's a check in the bad mom column.
I feel bad for what they went through.
