I actually don't wear that much black-- when I do, though, I usually go all-out. I wear jeans that used to be black almost daily, but I generally end up wearing reds, white, and browns more than black. Today, for example: burgundy long-sleeve t-shirt; burgundy, brown, and blue button-down; faded black Levis; tan greatcoat.

I just like black. I think it's beautiful.
I guess that's always the most important reason. Ok, it's slimming, it goes with a lot of colors, it's a typical goth thing, blablabla, but you wouldn't wear black for those reasons if you wouldn't like it, would you?

(By the way, I wear a lot of colors, but black is my favorite one.)

They are intelligent beings that know black goes with almost anything and it is easy to clean (depending on material). If it begins to fade at least it turns grey. Also it brings out and accents curves you want to show or hide those you do not.

We wear black because we're mourning our society!!

Well I think I wear black since it's comfortable to wear, slimming, and I just feel relaxed and myself when I wear it...

I really don't think black is such a dominating color. I never associated domination with black before I read this topic.
I'm more inclined to connect black with peace and tranquility, like a starless summer night, or the reflection of that starless summer night in a calm lake.
I think domination depends more on the kind of clothing you're wearing. Tight leather clothes give an impression that's totally different from long flowy dresses, whether they're black or white or any other color.

I pretty much agree with Iriacynthe.Colors can't be regarded as dominating unless we look at the thing they're coloring. For example, the same color can look both goth and preppy depending on how you wear it.

I like to wear black because it makes me feel comfortable and it matches with everything. It really relaxes me and feels good.

OOh - I'm so scared of spiders, I could NEVER wear her necklace. I'd scream and foam at the mouth every time I looked down.

You're right, colors are important too, but you can't just say that this or that color is dominant. The color, the cut, the attitude, they all matter.

Crying is pretty goth, isn't it? But you're right, color is so important in your outfits. That's one thing I don't like about gothic, people often feel limited to only black, black and eum, black. Adding the right amount of the right color can make you look positively stunning.

Now I'm actually wondering if that freaky spider-necklace-thing would look cute in pink, how scary is that?

This is kind of related to what I meant.I wanted to say that if we take colors separately, they don't have a certain meaning and don't belong to a certain subculture or group of people. For example,goths,priests,businessmen/women,ghetto people....they all wear black;however,it looks different on every single person and they convey a different message. But if we change the color, the cut,the way the piece of clothing is worn...then it would look totally different just like in the pics above.

I forgot to say that what I meant in my 1st post is that colors do,of course, play an important role, but it's just not the most important...

Honestly, black just suits me. Its slowly took over about half my wardrobe while i slowly started to despise the mindless droned we call society. I have to say that I agree with the fact that color and cut are important (the other half of my wardrobe is a rainbow of colors). I can wear any number of black outfits and look like what most people call "normal" (normal being the statistic of what most people believe is socially acceptable). My friend wore jeans and a red shirt and looked goth. It's not the clothing as much as the attitude they convey, and the attitude that you wear on your own. Wear what ever you want, stereo types are just habitual. If everyone who was goth wore nothing but neon yellow then it would be gothic out of connections the brain makes. Still, black is an awesome color, and I love wearing it.

Ya, ya posers aye.

I said other on the poll. So um, I wear black because it is a nuetral color. Therefore, whatever I wear with it is enhanced. There is also the advantage of easy coordination and subtilty. Black is usually more dosile, so when avioding people it's great. There are many reasons to do so; like, feeling down/shy, busy, and other. Also when trying not to seem too overstated in situation like job interviews, it's wonderful.

In fashion, black is associated with high fashion and having artistic flare. Of course, now that I'm older and more confident, I'm a big flaming piece of beach party. Mmm, how people change.

I wear black colored clothing because I can. Yeah, my mommy said I could but not until I'm done eating my peas.

I started wearing black because I was in mourning when my favorite uncle got murdered. Then I chose to wear black because I wanted to fade into the background, go unnoticed. I grew up in a beach town, and there everybody was wearing bright colors, trying to stand out. I wanted to be left alone. I was a very deep and introverted. It was the total opposite of my former self. Nowadays I try to integrate other colours into my wardrobe, but black is always a standard. I wear at least one thing that's black, if I can't wear all black that day. It's a security blanket if you will. It's comforting and familiar.

I look like a baked potato if I wear beige.

But that's another story....

My school uniform was black. Then I decided I liked it. Then I realised it suited me. Now it's just comfy. And slimming. And goes with everything.
