Most people don't know that there are still towns across America where drinking is ILLEGAL and dancing is ILLEGAL.
I don't think that's in any way correct Stern. DO you have a source on it? My parents live in a dry county, where the sale of alcohol is prohibited (which is stupid as hell) but consumption is still perfectly legal. I can see how laws like that might confuse you.

Similarly, there are laws on the books in Kentucky that more than 4 single women living together is technically a brothel, but no one enforces them because they're fucking stupid. I doubt there's any town in America where the Ghestapo will drag you off for dancing.

Its sounds really stupid, but its illegal to dance outside in Pinal County Arizona, apparently. And its enforced.

WOW. I stand corrected. that is retarded.

Though to be fair, there are lots of tiny towns which get away with stupid shit because no one cares about them and no residents raise a stink. I'm sure if someone had the time and the money to fight that crap, that law would be overturned.

It's illegal to have the ten commandments posted in pubic schools and in the court houses, but that didn't stop my old high school or court house from putting them up everywhere. They also made the elementary schoolers say the lord's prayer every morning for a while, until finally someone complained to the ACLU.

Long story short, the ACLU told them to stop or there would be a lawsuit. They tried to find a loophole for a while, but when that failed they tried to run the family that complained out of town by boycotting the girl's father's business. Too bad it was the local K-Mart, and it was impossible to not shop there.

Anyway I'm rambling. Long story short, ignorant folk will be ignorant regardless of what the laws are.

Take your pick. I have a thread on this somewhere in politics - there was an article about a year ago on this very topic and it had a list of American towns where various normal things were banned (from drinking and dancing to wearing shorts and bikinis).

I'll have to dig up that link!

As per your previous post:

Thats it in a nutshell. Hell, BIG states do the same thing - even the Federal government. Look at the Patriot Act - they are trying to keep it out of the courts because if challenged it will be repealed.

Last year in Virginia they passed a law stating residents have to pay HUGE fines for speeding ($1000-$3000 per ticket). It only applied to residents of the state. It of course was repealed as soon as it made its way in front of a court. That didn't stop them from passing the law to begin with.

Thats American politics these days - pass whatever crap ye want, and let the courts handle the fall-out. That way the legislators can say they did 'something' and appease their voter base.

It's a shite system really.

At my schools homecoming football game the opposing teams band was playing the instrumental of "I kissed a girl".
I thought it was rather amusing....
But anyways Ive heard much worse songs played at my schools over the past few years and no one has had a single problem with them.
Its quite evident that because the song is about girls kissing one another rather than two members of the opposite sex, the administration seemed to have a bigger problem with it.
I just don`t think such shitty music should be played at schools. Or large audiences at all.

Thank you.
Saya, as nice as your points are.
You're not in high school!
I think that me, who is 15 and then peacebear here who is nearly 15 would know exactly what type of music the typical schools here in America play.
And there's not many schools that would eliminate a song for being homophobic, and if they did, it would most likely be for the fact of it even mentioning the word gay in the first place.
And we don't know zilch, if that was the case, there'd be no article.
That and at least I stated what helped me come to my assumption, yours is just there.

Oh! So we can account for a total of two schools in all of America that allow this song! Well shucks, that just proves that they are homophobic!

I've only been out of high school for three years, I'm not that old, its not like everything about high school has changed in three years, plus my little brother is still in high school. They still have a rule that music played cannot have sexually suggestive lyrics or have swear words. And once again, your high school and peacebear's high school might be okay with it, but it doesn't mean that every single school in America, even in the south, is okay with all sorts of music.

There's an article because cheerleeders were disciplined for using a song the administration did not agree with. There is absolutely nothing there saying why they did that, just that they broke rules by doing so. For all we know a gay parent or student phoned in and said they were offended, or this school bans lewd music. There is absolutely nothing there that would indicate its because the song is about a girl kissing a girl that they got in trouble, other than the fact that the name of the song is I Kissed A Girl.

Our music can't have swear words and if they do, they bleep them out. Also, the bleep out sexual words as well, but weren't not that dumb and all know what the blank is supposed to mean. And as I've said

However, as I said it's safe to assume. Because, based on what I've seen/heard from people in other states and from what I've seen.

Even if they broke the school rules, they shouldn't be in trouble. Know why? Because they said, as I've said that it was probably not a good idea to use the song. Though we all know that translates into don't do it, yet in these matters, things are taken literally. They NEVER once officially said that they couldn't use it, based on the information presented.

That and most people who listen to this song think it's about gay rights anyway. Have you not heard radio shows? Or read any articles on this song? There's tons of people out there and company's that believe she's 'taking a stand'. So I doubt the gay student's parent calling in reason, especially since once more homophobia is still rampant in this area.

Schools shouldn't be allowed to parade around their intolerance as they see fit, and they shouldn't be allowed to make people feel uncomfortable because of their sexuality in what is meant to be a learning environment. If they don't want sex, that's understandable. Rampant intolerance in institutions paid for by the common person? That's not acceptable regardless of whether schools are for learning.
It was never my point that they didn't like it because of lesbian references.
It was ALWAYS my point that they are uncomfortable with it because it's overtly sexual and promotes drinking.

Also--I was never talking about the way things should be, I was talking about how they are.

Its not safe to assume anything, especially with little or no evidence to go by, espeically since you're backing this claim by personal knowledge and anecdotes. This does not count as evidence as any sort. You have no experience with this school directly.

I've been talking to a lot of gay people about this song actually, and most say its demeaning. But if you want to use anecdotal information, because I am an adult, and speaking to gay adults, some of whom are parents, then obviously its the same across the board, and obviously thats the reason why. Just like apparently all southern school administrations are homophobic if they ban this song and they most definatley have no rules agaisnt lewd music, they play worse because your school happens to play worse. Your logic makes no sense.

First of all, it's NEVER safe to assume.
Second, there are TONS of things that you will get in trouble for despite never being explicitly told you aren't to do it.

You are frustratingly stupid.
