I watched Beetlejuice! I remember thr cartoon when I was a boy in the 1990's. In the movie, that lydia is a real fine example of gothiness.

^ I watched it just then! No doubt Lydia's the gothiest person i've seen in a movie. Cute. A bit over-done with the big hat though.

What about the goth in the Breakfast Club?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't goths come after. It's the 1980's.
I don't think she is punk, so she must be goth.

I don't think she's goth, I think she's just a misfit. That she's dressed in black is just a coincidence, but I may be terribly wrong.

I think they were going for a gothic aesthetic in one of the characters in the movie "The Craft", don´t know if that´s been mentioned already? Anyway, this insane girl. Don´t remember her name.

actually, her lines make her sound more stereotypical emo than goth. Like, "my whole life is a darkroom", and when she writes in her journal, "I am so alone....I am so alone..."

I think those are more goth lines that became emo. Or something. Even self-mutilation was goth before it was emo. Oldschool Emo's more angry and hopeless than depressed. Then it somehow got all these goth elements.
I'm hoping that this was caused by fans of the genre. The idea that the mixing could have been caused by external media is just too depressing.

Isabelle Adjani in Luc Bessons "Subway". She is wearing rather goth looking attire in the dinner scene.

Well, apparently according to movie reviewers, Bella Swann in Twilight is "goth", and so are the Cullen vampires. I'm not quite sure where they are getting this from - did they even see the movie?. I took my cousin's daughter to see that god-aweful movie, and nobody look gothy at all to me.

Probably because most are better than going about saying the crow is goth.

The girl in Breakfast Club was named Allison Reynolds and she was supposed to be gothic. Her "gothness" is pretty shallow and stereotypical, but goths in movies always are. The point of the movie was that each of the characters was a stereotype representative of their own subculture. If Allison wasn't goth then she'd be the only character who wasn't a stereotype representative of a subculture. So, her subculture was probably supposed to be goth--however poorly depicted it was. The movie was released in 1985 but who knows how long the script floated around Hollywood before it sold. More than likely Allison was one of the 1st goths in mainstream movies.

Not main characters, but Vanden (played by Catherine Black) and her boyfriend Stash from American Psycho caught my fancy with their deadpan deliveries and black garb.

Hm..Yeah, Gypsy 83 and Butterfly effect are some notable ones (already been mentioned, though). Characters played by James DuVal tend to have a gothic-esque vibe from what I've seen (Doom Generation, Nowhere, etc.)
