Some Metal bands I like:

Apocalyptica
Obituary
Kataklysm
Black Candle
Abstract Rapture
Dark Tranquility
Amorphis
Samael
Crematory
Bathory
Hypocrisy
Motörhead
Equilibrium
Subway to Sally
Opeth
Korpiklaani
Unleashed

Edit: HIM isn't Love Metal or Neo-Goth, it's pop with tediously repetetive guitar riffs.
Great list, Jack! Best one in this threads so far.

Nice list.
Kataklysm are pretty goooood.

Although I've never considered Motörhead metal.
More Rock 'N' Roll/Blues.

I'll say they had massive influence on metal though.

Didn't Lemmy consider MH as a punk band?

Nah he just calls them Rock 'N' Roll.
But I know what you mean.
I've always thought of them as a blues band.

Most people call them a biker band.
But as Lemmy can't ride a bike...

But apparently if somebody starts calling themselves "Neo-Goth" it does. Really, I was using it as an umbrella term to describe what the "Goths of the day" think is Goth. You know. Like Mansonites.

I'll agree with EtS here.
They formed before metal was a genre.
You can agree when someone says the Earth is flat, but that won't make it true. The point that they formed before it was a genre means very little. Both Sabbath and Zeppelin were described as "Heavy Metal" in the early '70s. Of course, this also means very little, as some significantly softer bands had been previously described as the same.
Still, I think your saying that time barriers somehow keep music from being a certain genre is rather silly. If Chuck Berry had been playing "Roll Over Beethoven" during the time of Beethoven, many years before "rock" was coined, I'd still think it was Rock.

Calling them "Neo-Goth" would imply that they had something to do with goth rock.
Which they don't.
Neo-Goth would be modern goth rock bands.

If it sounded like that before the genre was coined, it's either experimental or it gets categorized into genres by what it sounds like. With Led Zeppelin I have yet to find metal elements, thus, in my opinion it can't be metal. Sabbath, In my opinion are metal because they are widely recognized as one of, if not the first heavy metal band.

Neo-Goth would imply that they're a representation of a blatant butchery of the original thing, and not necessarily related at all. Or atleast that's how I intended it. You know. Like how Conservatives view Neo-Conservatives and the Christian Right.

That's the same argument I've been using for Zeppelin. I've heard Zeppelin referred to alongside Sabbath as one of the first Metal bands numerous times. And here's a surprise: many of the times weren't on Wikipedia.

Listen to Led Zeppelin and then listen to Sabbath. Zep, seems to me more 60's orientated with a lot of hippie influence. Sabbath, on the other hand, have the madly distorted buzz-sawesque guitar riffs and darker lyrics found in metal today.

This argument (or at least what's on the first page) is why I believe in the many sub-genres of metal. I like almost ALL genres of metal.

Viking Metal Recommendations:

Amon Amarth

Death Metal Recommendations:

Vader
Dark Tranquility
Decapitated
Devildriver

Gore Metal Recommendations:

Cannibal Corpse
Dying Fetus
Morbid Angel

Swedish Death Metal Recommendations:

Dimmu Borgir
Necrophobic

I'll edit in a lot more bands, I'm just lazy at the moment...

You can't tell him that though. He will continue arguing his worthless opinion.

That's what he does though. Trolls and derails threads.

I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't really believe what he's claiming here.

Bottom line:
HIM aren't goth in any way.
You obviously know better so don't call them such as to confuse others/reinforce their views that they are goth.

I think as everyone is posting their lists i may as well post mine.
Alestorm
All The Remains
Amebix (ProtoThrash/CrustPunk)
Anthrax
Behemoth
Chimaira
Cradle Of Filth
Danzig
Dimmu Borgir
Dope
Fear Factory
Five Finger Death Punch
Gay For Johnny Depp
Hed PE
Kataklysm
Machine Head
Metallica
NFD
Opeth
Powerman 5000
Rob Zombie
Sepultura
Soulfly
Throne Of Molok
Turisas
White Zombie

There's a ton more.

EDIT: Not all screamo is nu-metal...
Screamo is metalcore/post hardcore.

That claim's rather silly. Most of the things leading up to Metal in the '60s WERE quite hippy influenced. Honestly, by the same logic you could say Sabbath isn't Metal because it sounds rather like Coven and some of Pink Floyd's heavier early stuff. And Zeppelin used Heavy distortion, too, so I don't know where the "OMG SABBATH IZ SO BUZZSAW" came from.

Correction, Zepplin used fuzz, as a guitarist this mistake becomes rather annoying...
