You're right I should play more often.
I'm self taught and am using tablature.

that's what I did, but what i did more than anything was play everyday. I had the luck of being alone one summer when i was about 15... so i picked up my late father's guitar and just began. Two years later I took a music theory class and put two and two together. What songs have you learned? And how long have you been learning?

That's pretty awesome to hear and I should definitely go to a music theory class once I get the chance.

I'll admit I spent half a year learning guitar on and off/not everyday and only learned parts of songs that were of interest to me. Ex: My curse killswitch engage, Avon-Queens of the stone age , Master of the Puppets- Metallica.

I've started to be able to link the notes I play together much easier over this time instead of searching for a fret slowly I can almost jump to it. I kind of suck at chords currently though. I can play these parts at a decent speed around 60-75% compared to it's actual speed like kse... but I'm mainly worked on my picking speed right now.

I was going to ask do you play opened palm or closed when picking up/down?

when i pick the strings my hand is open and i have my pinky resting on the body of the guitar. closed whenever i do fast tremolo picking... i mostly playing acoustic...

its good to learn songs you want to learn. songs you like. in college when i went into my first guitar class i didnt like being told what to play or practice...thus creating unhappiness and if you are unhappy playing guitar you arent gonna do it...good thing for me though I was already advanced so i just blew through it...

and the best thing to do i guess is learn songs all the way through no matter how hard it is. and if a song you play starts getting annoying its good, that just means you are getting good. if you are interested in writing your own stuff i just got started after a year and a half of playing but it all didnt really come together till 2 years ago, i just cant sing that good...

just do it!
