Literature Please come visit. People get upset, write poetry about it, and post it here. Sometimes we also talk about books. |

Also this quote here ^ Jilian is great, almost a poem rather breathtaking. =]

It's an inside joke but "Break a Window!" it is now rather cliche to those who know it's meaning, a very elite group of drama geeks, literature geeks, and musicians, but it's brilliant none the less.

I particularly like the last one, since I'm a firm believer that for feelings to have their power, the opposite side must co-exist and be, or, used to be, dominant. (if you get what I mean?).
For example: For true happiness to exist there must be true desperation.
To fully appreciate something one must experience the opposite.
Gezh, my english is failing me . Could easily have written this ten times better in swedish, but then again, that wouldn't help anyone, would it.
P.S: That doesn't mean I approve of self-harm.

Ready comprehension is often a knee-jerk response and the most dangerous form of understanding. It blinks an opaque screen over your ability to learn. The judgemental precedents of law function that way, littering your path with dead ends. Be warned. Understand nothing. All comprehension is temporary.
Truth is subject to too much analysis.
To endure oneself may be the hardest task in the universe. You cannot hire a wise man or any other intellect to solve it for you. There's no writ of inquest or calling of witness to provide answers. No servant or disciple can dress the wound. You dress it yourself or continue bleeding for all to see.
--Frank Herbert
There are no facts, only interpretations.
Man is the cruelest animal.
He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.
Perhaps I know best why it is man alone who laughs; he alone suffers so deeply that he had to invent laughter. Hope in reality is the worst of all evils, because it prolongs the torments of man.
"Every man has his price." This is not true. But for every man there exists a bait which he cannot resist swallowing. To win over certain people to something, it is only necessary to give it a gloss of love of humanity, nobility, gentleness, self-sacrifice - and there is nothing you cannot get them to swallow. To their souls, these are the icing, the tidbit; other kinds of souls have others.
That which is done out of love always takes place beyond good and evil.
People who comprehend a thing to its very depths rarely stay faithful to it forever. For they have brought its depths into the light of day: and in the depths there is always much that is unpleasant to see.
-Friedrich Nietzsche
Whenever you find that you are on the side of the majority, it is time to reform.
Let us endeavor so to live that when we come to die even the undertaker will be sorry.
We all live in the protection of certain cowardices which we call our principles.
Fame is a vapor; popularity an accident; the only earthly certainty is oblivion.
"All say, 'How hard it is to die' - a strange complaint to come from the mouths of people who have had to live.
Sacred cows make the best hamburgers.
--Mark Twain
Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.
Every man is guilty of all the good he didn't do.
Judge of a man by his questions rather than by his answers.
Think for yourselves and let others enjoy the privilege to do so too.
We never live; we are always in the expectation of living.
A witty saying proves nothing.
--Voltaire
Write a wise saying and your name will live forever.

I hate quotation. Tell me what you know.

I appreciate the rest of your quotes, but the most significant quote, that rings the most solemn and rings the longest throughout my 50 years is this one you posted CircleV. I am certain I will suffer this to the end of my days.
Thanks.

A casual stroll through the lunatic asylum shows that faith does not prove anything.
Friedrich Nietzsche
You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way, and the only way, it does not exist.
Friedrich Nietzsche
Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.
Friedrich Nietzsche
Thoughts are the shadows of our sensations - always darker, emptier, simpler than these.
Friedrich Nietzsche
There is in general good reason to suppose that in several respects the gods could all benefit from instruction by us human beings. We humans are - more humane.
Friedrich Nietzsche

I like to remember this one my dad always uses:
"Positive thinking, positive results."
Not sure who orginally said it if someone did, but I like to try to remember it throughout my day.
