At new year I shall be ensconced within a noisy pub, surrounded by my fellow drunken idiots ( I love them all really) and possibly fending off the usual mindless questions from strangers that will inevitably include:

" am yo one o' them goffs? does yo like that Marylin wotsisname ? "

"Oooorgh does yo like bondage? can ah give yer a smack up the arse then?"

or possibly the ever popular....

" Cheer up love wos the marrer wi' yer? eh... eh? "

I always get that one no matter how obviously I appear to be enjoying myself.

Then there will be the usual breast comments from my male friends, and one in particular will be sitting and staring at them whilst making a disturbing mmph nyom pph kind of sound under his breath. Nice. I have to steel myself however, and try to both forgive and ignore him, as he has actually spent some time in a mental institution and possibly cannot control himself at times. His wanking obsession is known to half the district.

that one made me giggle. I get a few comments like that. My favourite being:

"Why's yous wearing that top fing? Is you into kinky fings & all that? Does yous like torture & that? Has yous got a whip too?"

All performed beautifully in a berkshire accent.

Thank you honeythorn for making it perfectly possible to read it like it would be heard... I think I just read that post aloud to myself like six times, each one increasingly difficult because of my laughter!

...and yeah, I wish I knew people who spoke like that... instead, I have these (just listen):

I got a 3GB iPod nano, a DVD box set of old horror-movies (including Nosferatu, the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, and Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde), DVD box set of the anime series Trigun, a bunch of "conservative" clothing I'm not too pleased about, and a big, electricity-shooting globe-thingy.

Got a lot of goodies, but one I am wearing now is my new purple jewel silver ring (the middle one in the photo link). The jewel is man made, but I like it! Goes with the rest of my bling.

Humane's new ring.

HumanePain, you have a very friendly hand! (Please don't ask me to explain that...)

...although you should know, every time someone says "bling", a baby animal explodes.

Sorry. I will say "rings" next time. I descend into the venacular now and then. Thanks for the gentle nudge back into civilized writing BB.

Ha! it's my local Stourbridge accent A lot of people get it confused with Birmingham, but in fact most people from Birmingham speak very well.

Most people a little younger than me don't use it or don't know how to speak and read it, but for those with a lot of old poeple in the family, it still flourishes. I quite like it actually, It really baffles people in other parts of the country!!!!!! I have to become "extra" english to be understood properly!!

I would love to come over there to the US and try it out, just to see the blank and confused looks upon peoples faces!!!!!!

That would be great for you to come over, but in California, you wouldn't see much of a look on people's faces. One can hear Russian, French, Spanish (of course, this is California!), Farsi (Persian language), and may others that I cannot make out, but I presume to be African languages as they are spoken by Blacks who are in what appears to be traditional African dress. There are many dialects of Indian heard as well (Hindi and Sikh dialects from Punjab etc.). We hear Australians and British too.

But come over anyway!

I think I'm more excited about what I gave than what I got. To a gorgeous female I know, I gave:

- The Complete Thin Man Collection 6-film, 7-disc DVD box set
(great 1930s black & white Dashiell Hammett murder mystery films--you gotta love Nick & Nora)
- Writhe & Shine Collected graphic novel
(best goth scene parody comic strip ever written, if you haven't seen it before then do yourself a favor - www.writeandshine.com)

But I also received, of course, and that's exciting too. The aforementioned lady gave me:

- a glass candle holder in a decorated silver cross setting
- a stylish black shirt that is very much my style
- a cozy and warm pair of longjohns--in black! Nice find.

And then I had a genuinely nice time with the family after that. That's a rare thing for most of us, so I wanted to be sure and make note of it. Oh, and I set up the game Zork: Grand Inquisitor on Grandpa's computer and we both played it a bit. He's really into all the Zork and Myst games, which I appreciate greatly.
