Since this is happening to the elderly in Australia, I wonder if its happening in the US, too? I remember a story a few years back about a woman killing her husband, putting him in a fridge and sending him to mummify in a self-storage unit. He was found after she confessed on her death bead. But that was murder. I wonder if it happens by accident here, too? It must, right? There are plenty of lonely people... As horrible as that is to think of.

Yes, I know this is a tad late but what you did is most noble and respectable, Delicate_Torture. Any decent person would think of a deed like that as human nature but, alas, it is not so. It is rare to find someone willing to do something like that.

I donīt remember very well...there was a case somewhere around, a woman kept death body for several years in a flat...it was her husband...it was discovered last year in spring...It strangely amused me...in that time I was doing analysis of Faulknerīs A Rose for Emilly...noble woman keeping her love conserved for decades..my mother was affraid about my mental health...

in line with the poetic licence I think it was ment to create complex picture...maybe in real life it is possible to separate obsession and true love(is it?) but in this piece it is intentionaly this way mixed...you know like(I misuse a philosopher here) when you have a water and a lump of sugar...separately it is easy to identify...but when you put the sugar into water, you cannot separate them by one move...
....love is a instinctival need...letīs say she had inherited the "madness"(it is very interesting that the madness is used there as general concept, not exact illness...)...even mad people have the desire to love...they are weird in every area of life and of course have their weird notion about love ... and even I do
...the story was about the clash: people observing my behavior and judging and what is really going on in my head...
I would like to know what conclusions you made at school discussions...I am curious about the symbolic of a rose according to you opinion

Don't drag punk into anything. You don't know anything about goth, I doubt you know squat about punk.
I'm sure it does turn you on. Actually I will call you a liar. I bet you would get freaked out at the first sight or an actual corpse. Claiming to like corpses on the internet doesn't make you cool.

Unfortunately, the class decided love drives you to madness and she was just an old twit who had shut herself off from the world, thus driving her insane.
On the other hand, I (along with another student) thought the town allowed her to keep the body for so long because they each understood why she needed him there with her. Because they all understood what it was like to lose a love one, and could understand why she needed that week or so to hold on and to mourn next to him. Because each of us can relate to losing somebody close and all wish we had more time with that person than what was given to us.
I dont remember the rose unfortunately.

well, the rose was just in the title: A rose for Emilly...I made a list of indications as the flower isnīt mentioned anymore in the text...my favorite is the expression "under the rose" ...I see the connection of the indefinite and definite article ...as I am not a native speaker, English idioms are not my strongest point...but HIM have a song called under the rose...well, it is not gothic(as Iīve learnt) and itīs not of my favorite but it helped...
the work of art is a good one, when it allows various complex and structured explanations....the is nothing like "the only real" one...some can be elaborated and supported by arguments, some can be desperately subjective and unprofessional...I think that the point is to "dig" ....

This reminds me of a case that happened in my area last year. An old woman went missing, and four years later she was found dead in her own home. I can't figure out how they could have missed her. I mean, the first place you check is the home, right? To make sure that they really are missing and not just stuck somewhere with a broken leg? Anyways, it was really sad. Her cane was nearby on the floor, as if she'd fallen, and couldn't reach her cane to get herself back up. Four years her body just sat there, in the most obvious location. And no one noticed. I don't remember what the exact cause of death was determined to be, but I still think it probably had to do with a fall. Perhaps she had a stroke or a heart attack, and so she was weakened and that's why she would have needed the cane in order to move. I don't know. It's still sad though, no matter what went down.

This reminds me of a story not too long ago about a man found dead in front of his television set with it still on. I think he went about a year without being discovered.
In any case though, it's still sad (and kind of scary) that these people can just disapear one day and no one notices.
