I tryed in vain to educate her on gothic rock and deathrock after she asked me about goth music, but no matter what I said she changed the subject to how much of a "freak" she is or how she has cramps or something. She was also mad (at me, for some reason) for the fact that Marilyn Manson took his styles from Johnny Slut and Nik Fiend. She also tryed some silly little cyber sexual advance on me via IMs which cracked me up. I don't think she's a troll or anything. I think she's just some little 13 year old girl who thinks its cool to say crap for attention. She seems to be gone now so I guess we're all good. It's been fun, though. Hahaha.

Well, considering that this is a gothic forum and a good amount of threads in the music section are about gothic bands (Bauhaus, Specimen, Sex Gang, Death Cult. And anyway, "death rock" is just another corny, superfluous name for a genre that people invented to make it sound cooler, just like "metalcore" and "doom metal." It doesn't mean anything. I remember being at this barbecue like two years ago and there was this fat kid there, probably about 14, wearing his HIM shirt and his studded Hot Topic bracelets (like the ones you wear, Haunted House), and some middle-aged woman asked him what band it was. I will now recount this incident for your reading pleasure:
Woman: What band is that on your shirt?
Fat Kid: HIM.
Woman: What is it?
Fat Kid: HIM
Woman: Oh, HIM, I see. And what kind of music is it? Is it like rock?
Fat Kid: LOVE METAL!
Woman: Oh...'love metal', okay.
Obviously the woman didn't care what faggot pet name the fans gave to the band, all she needed to know was rock, rap, or other. She wasn't impressed with the kid's "education" on love metal, nobody's impressed with your "education" on death rock.

To each his own, I suppose. You probably have an interest that no one else cares for. Why bitch about someone else's? Somehow, I doubt Haunted was aiming for making everyone impressed. She asked a question, he responded. He's not flaunting it.
Also: It's the same with most things. You add many names to make it more specific. People would have a hell of a time wading through music if it had only a few basic categories.

To counter, I was impressed enough when I read Haunted's comments on Specimen to go and research them and found that Specimen was very entertaining ( Kiss Kiss Bang Bang in particular!). Of course, there is your possible response: "like I said: nobody".  But if you do say that it would prove you are predictable. Hopefully you will respond with something a little more cerebral and complex.

Gosh, I think Haunted, Badteccy, Ed, and SOOO many others knowledge on goth and deathrock culture is useful as a goth myself . It's infulential for my own work. For their artistic and music paths. Also, ask Mick Mercer and Pete Scathe. They're surely impressed. And of course they care. Also, if you know about deathrock, you'd know it's not like Doom Metal or any other market genre.
