And as the Olde Skool prophesized, Mallgoth WAS a fashion, and it WOULD pass away as many others.
It was doomed. If it was aimed at spooky kids whose parents would not let them dress in black ("Oh! The angst!" lol), it shouldn't have been so pricey, and I'm sure they would have got more clientele. Everybody knows that the people who shop there were too broke to actually shop in there.
We don't have Hot Topic here (what we get are the rests of the rests of the rests of last year's sales at Hot Topic, dirty and crappy and even more overpirced because "It is imported"), but for what I've seen and read of them, it looked like a good neverending supply of stripey stokings... I won't miss it, but I'm sorry for those of you who will.
And if you are one of those who started at Hot Topic and grew up to be a "Real Goth"TM, I would say that this should make you happy, it's like the beginning of a new era for all of you. But now, what example are we going to put of the subculture look for mainstreams? Or will that dissappear and we will be as underground as before?
And by the way, I'm just dying to see all the mansonites and the mall punks dressed in yellow and pink...

All I can say is:
I KNEW IT!!!!
It was going to happen and I have noticed that a lot of us have predicted this in other threads talking about how the dark clothing and such was becoming a trend. So pretty much that's a duh and we all knew it was coming.

I think that a few will try to find out what Goth really is, that is, those who were trying to be "Goth" because now they will probably know that they were misled. Many will probably just go on to the next fad.

Frankly the true goths that started with Hot Topic would have ended up as true goths if they really are true goths nomatter what.

That's true. I actually started there, but I actually identified with the Gothic subculture when I found out what it was. Then, without sounding egotistical, I guess I fulfilled your prophesy.

I think I WILL buy that dress form from mom. I just looked at the site, and it was rather revolting, really. The shoes made me cringe the most!!

IT WAS A FAD AND NOW IT'S GONE. My god, this made my day. I just really really hate that damn store. Let them bring the colors, FINALLY.

Well it is Hot Topic. They only have 10 Goth looks anyway. How far could you go with that when Goths are individuals. They have sold their last corset. Who wants to look like everyone else anyway? However, they have fun other stuff. Think Goths finally figured out they are dressing like punks too. Now the order can be restored.

With a name like 'Hot Topic,' it's obvious that it will stick to the trend.

Everyone rails on Hot Topic, but yet everyone has at least one item in their possession they bought there.
The old proverb about fat girls and mopeds holds true with Hot Topic shopping as well...

I live in Canada, and there ain't no Hot Topics here apart from who's winning the elections and the Stanley Cup. But I'm in Miami at the moment and I went to a big big mall yesterday. Out of curiosity, I visited the local Hot Topic and I must say, I was extremely disappointed. Some of the stuff on their website is relatively decent but the store itself was all dark, with crossbones stenciled on the walls (what bad taste!) and some awful music in the background. Ewww. Let it die. Que sera sera. What will be will be.

I suppose you are talking about the people who live in places where they have Hot Topic? There aren't any in the place where I live. And it doesn't look so interesting as to order something online...
But I think we have a problem now. All of our jokes about mallgoths and Hot Topic will go to sh*t!

I will be hitting up their sale racks. Never can miss a sale. >3
I do wonder where people will start assuming I've bought all of my clothing at now though...?

For some of us, Hot Topic is the only clothing store offered that has remotely Gothic stuff. Take me, for example. I live in a hicktown where excitement is school football games and if you don't dress prep, you take all kinds of shit. Ordering from online is hard, and my dad's so damn old-fashioned, he's got a helluva stick shoved up his ass.
It's not the best, I'll admit, but it's the only thing I've got.

Have you tried the thrift store or a Goodwill, Wolf DarkRain?
I've discovered that people like to give their old prom dresses and fluffy skirts to them. And they can be bought for as little as $3. So now I have several dark red and purple taffeta skirts in my closet.
Of course, if you're male, they have things too.

Gotta love those people. "I like your style. You shop at Hot Topic?"*rolls eyes*
But in your case I guess it wouldn't bother since you don't mind shopping there.

I prefer to not settle for hot topic and just be goth in every other sense.
