Welcome darlin'. Good to have ya.

And, okay, the elitist thing is paradoxical. But I don't believe in absolutes, which is itself an absolute, so I think we'll get along fine.

Only a little: not to start conflict or anything, but some people like to flame the newbies for no other reason than the fact that they can. Anyone gets pissy, read over what you've said and if you're sure you didn't say anything stupid, just smile sweetly, piss on their face and resume ignoring them. (Of course, if it turns out you WERE an imbecile, there's no point defending your corner, but you seem too intelligent to say anything THAT bad.) Half the people here don't even like each other, and I hate to see people leave because a couple of people were assholes to them.

I'm sure there will be disagreements and whatnot but I’m not the sort of person to go out looking for a fight on purpose or anything.

Howdy kiddo--and I look at it this way-- there may be poseurs out there, but when we don't like someone BECAUSE they DO know a hundred goth industrial bands, aren't we in turn being elitist?

And welcome, if you have a thick skin, you'll like it here!

I do -- I like the brutal honesty and openness found here--I think it's refreshing...and funny...

I feel so young compared to all of you though, I'm 14 and you've all been in the scene for so much longer than I have! I do like it here though, it's interesting.

Well I'm 14 so that would mean somewhere between 8th and 10th grade. Oh I don't know, the Americans were alway's confusing with their soccer and "pool" lol.

Stay here. You are needed. And you're not that young compared to some of us. I'm going into year 11 so there's not a huge difference.

Your music taste is good. Stompy boots are good. And I like your favourite outfit.

How long have you been in "the scene"?

And which bit of the UK are you from?? If you don't mind me asking that be.

Anyway. Welcome.

And thank you.

You haven't been here long enough to realise that it takes quite a lot to drag me out of eternal lurking. And it takes more to get me to make a post of any length.

Please stay

Thank you! I'm from London though I'm originally from up North, what about you? When I say the “scene” I mean liking the music, clothes ect. I got into metal when I was 11 and I done the whole “Slipknot maggot 4lyfe” thing for a year before I got into the good stuff like Scar Symmetry and Opeth. So I guess I’ve been liking gothic rock, dark wave and industrial for around a year and a half.

There are actually a lot of young people on this site. And everyone has to start somewhere - there's nothing wrong with discovering good music when you're still very young. It makes it hard to go clubbing and to shows, but I find that if you're reasonably mature, goths are actually not that ageist. I quickly made friends twice my age when I got into the scene (much to my parents chagrin) but it was because we genuinely shared music tastes and outlooks on life. It seems no matter how much older I get, I still manage to make friends in the scene who are twice my age .

I have yet to see if the elder Gothic’s like me or not. I hope I don’t annoy them, I think I’ve upset a mopey Goth before with my perkiness.

If you're talking about the designations on this site, those are assigned by number of posts, not age or scene experience. And I wouldn't worry so much about being liked; rather, I'd just proofread everything you write and make sure it makes sense before posting it. When I was younger I found that poor wording led to me being misunderstood a lot (like you with the elitism thing).

No I mean I’ve upset a mopey Goth I know in real life, in my school. Yes, I see what you mean, people do misunderstand and sometimes I make mistakes.

Welcome. i noticed Opeth mentioned, i like you.

So far you've gotten some good advice on how to "survive" this site. Take what you will from the words, important thing is to enjoy yourself here. i think you'll do just fine, hell you got Bete Noire to post something, that says something right there.

I like you. For a fourteen year old you're very intelligent. Don't worry about whether people here like you, you're bound to offend someone sooner or later but shit happens. This place is like anywhere else except instead of sticks up their asses people have clove cigarettes.

Awww thank you! I’m still chuckling at the image of that. Yes and agree, I will have disagreements and this will probably lead to somebody to take offence, but that sort of thing always happens on forums.

Plus, lately I’ve developed a habit of saying controversial things so that will defiantly get reactions and probably not positive ones.
