The differences in hardcore punk and hardcore are a bit confounded at times but by no leap of the imagination are the Dead Kennedys hardcore. I love them, don't get me wrong, but they aren't. Bleeding Through and The Agony Scene would be metalcore. Hatebreed is hardcore, especially that song.

Err...the consensus is that when one says "hardcore," they are referring to hardcore punk (unless you're on an electronic music forum): Minor Threat, Bad Brains, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys and the like. And then out of that came post-hardcore, emotive hardcore (emo), metalcore, thrashcore, grindcore, mathcore, and so on and so forth from here to eternity.

Not in my experiences Viscus. Usuallly when one (who knows what the hell hardcore sounds like) reffers to hardcore, they usually reffer to hardcore bands like Dead to Fall and Hatebreed. Metalcore has a more metal sound and uses double kick pedals. Though it is incredibly hazy now adays. When I say hardcore I refer to MODERN HARDCORE, which would be Hatebreed. I make sure to note the destinction of calling it hardcore punk.

Hey mr punk who was born after the genre died, cool your jets. Where did I insult the Dead Kennedys? I said I love the Dead Kennedys, but that they aren't hardcore. Apparently (after extensive research into that confounded puddle of mud they call a genre system) it's come to the point that Hardcore (not hardcore punk) is more commonly accepted as Metalcore. I personally believe that hardcore should be seperate from hardcore punk as a genre that covers bands that aren't metal enough to be metalcore. But that's just me and a collective of people I talk to here in SoCal.

Hardcore is just short for hardcore punk, dude, though a good amount of the stuff that gets called hardcore nowadays is actually post-hardcore, which occassionally features lame stuff like melody.

Exactly, thats what is true. Wormboy, although you make a strong argument the Dead Kennedys ARE a hardcore punk band. Listen to the "In God We Trust" EP. And yes, so what if I was born when the golden age of punk was dead, its still going. Sure it's a zombie of its former self, its still going.

It's dead dude. You aren't a punk, you weren't around in the movement, you weren't there. Punks weren't part of a scene, they were part of an ideal. You use the word punk so much to describe everything about you it almost seems poserish. I'm not saying you are, but it comes off like that.

Sorry if that sounded really mean and condescending Stormtrooper. I'm in a bad mood. Sorry

Its ok. I get used to being called things like that. I just want people to know I'm not a posuer, it pisses me off when I get called that. I just love the music and subculture SO much, it's my life and people don't believe me.

I don't think your a poser. It's just I know you love punk but if you use the word so much you seem like, well, DarkPrayer lol. "Hey guys, I'm goth, are you goth? OMG LET'S TALK ABOUT GOTH!"
Ok, well you aren't THAT bad.
I bet you wish you were born when (I forget if it was the damned or the sex pistols who made the first punk album).
It's ok, I kind of wish I could have been around when Mayhem started.

The Damned were first, well single wise anyway. I like Mayhem, mainly because of the singers infamous suicide. In regards to my birth, I prefer the second wave more 1980-1986, so it doesn't matter. I'll try to cut back with my punkyness.

Punk's not dead, though. It's just moved much more into the underground.
