The angel/fairy one is pen and ink, the snakey one is pencil. I'm not sure which "first one" you mean. I don't work too much in pencil anymore- that one is from about 10 years ago.

So, what programs do you all use here? those that have posted their work? And those that haven't yet, if you work with any 2d or 3d software.

I have been building a rather extensive arsenal of software myself over the last several months. But I'm still learning how to use most of it. For the most part I use adobe photoshop 7 and macromedia's Fireworks MX. For my 3d modeling I use Wings3d, which is a free experimental program that's constantly being enhanced/updated by its developers. About 2 months ago I bought E-Frontier's Shade 8 - still learning how to work with that one, and most recently I bought DAZ 3D's Bryce 5.5, which for me is mostly useful for background rendering. And if I get the nerve up tomorrow, I'm planning on investing in Pixologic's Z-Brush 2, but it's rather steep.

So, just curious what others use here.

Umm.. Photoshop 8, Paint 8, Image Ready, Illustrator, Terragen (background), Open Canvas, and I will be using Maya and 3D Max as soon as I start school.

Cool Sanctus.

Is your school supplying the software? I know there are student discounts available for 3DS and Maya... and Lightwave I think. I don't understand why those programs need to cost so many thousands, when there are other programs available that are just as good, if not better, with much lower price tags. Maybe it has something to do with how widely used by institutions they are.

I'm planning on investing in Cinema 4D soon.

this sounds quite a bit like jealousy and self-pity all rolled into one, short post.

how about you take a deep breath and revisit this once you've got your head on straight?

your pics warrant a degree of admiration. your talent shines through. don't dilute that with the "woe-is-me" drama, please.

GIMP. Just GIMP, really, 'cause it's so versatile and not as bloated as Photoshop. My only peeve about that is that drop shadows and bevels aren't so easy to apply, but I'm getting used to it. Sometimes IrfanView if all I want to do is a quick bit of resizing. I used to use Macromedia Fireworks 3 for dungeon maps and web graphics, but I'm trying to wean myself off that now.

Thanks! It's Shiva. He's a male Hindu deity, and is representative of the power of destruction, mainly the destruction of negativity. Kali is the 8-armed goddess of fire. I don't know too much about her. I actually don't know too much about Hinduism, really. I just drew Shiva because I discovered that the "destroyer" god is present in several religions and was fascinated by that for a while.

Yeah, the schoo sullpies the software at either a discount student price or for rent... I'm excited to learn them but the idea of spending so much on programs is fucking
re-cock-ulous.

Reject, your drawings do need some work, but they're not totally bad. You should learn a bit more about anatomy.

And quit fishing for compliments. It's very annoying.
