Sometimes I love my job but the extra shit that comes with it (i.e. the emotional investment and the fact that I can make a big difference) can really bite. Tonight there was a public hearing that I spoke at and now I have to go to a lunch meeting that could potentially save the county $15-20 million so even though I had other plans (which I was really looking forward to) I can't really say no. So now from 11:30-1:30 I will be at lunch talking to the head of a citizens' group who have the potential to drastically cut down the school budget (which is way fluffed up with a bunch of useless shit that costs tons of money) if I can convince this guy that this one part (that if the School Board gets their way will cost about $17.5 mill) does nothing at all for the quality of education then maybe these people will take a close look at the budget and hold the School Board accountable for the money they want instead of blindly following what the School Board says and pressuring the county to give even more money to the schools (schools are already 80% of the county budget)

Thanks doll, it should go well as it really only involves me telling him how something works, and by works I mean sits there and doesn't get used because it sucks (we have them at school and most people in Loudoun have no experience with them).

Be careful what you ask them to cut. My local school board is trying to cut the JROTC program completely. The problem is the JROTC already gets very little funding and provides over half the scholarships the school receives.

Oh I know, our School Board is spoiled rotten. The funding that I think I convinced this guy wasn't necessary was for new technology, we are not behind in the least. I think I also get the guy thinking about some of the salaries that School Board members have and the fact that they all have 11% raises built into their proposed budget (they make $200,000+ a year as is) but that they are telling parents that if they don't get the money they're are asking for that they wont be able to have competitive salaries for teachers. The Board really is a bunch of schmucks.

I'm a bit worried about myself. Just being at my school is stressing me out. I'm always annoyed by the behaviour of others and have to find some way to preoccupy myself. This just leads to me not even knowing what to do on weekends, because I'm frantically trying to find the best thing to do. It really gets annoying, and I wish I could just relax.

Ok I am tired of this, and as my friend is probably somewhere in Italy right now, I have no one to rant to.

My supposed "best friend" isn't allowed to talk to me in public anymore. The only time I get to see him is during the school day , during one period that I really have no one else to talk to, and no one cares whether or not we talk. We're two of odder looking people in the class, and people tend to lot us together anyways, because we both wear black eyeliner, no one CARES that we talk to each other.

But he is so incredibly afraid of his girlfriend. What is she going to do? Deny him sex? She's already doing that! Break up with him? If she's going to break up with him because he was innocently talking to a friend, nothing physical whatsoever, then she's an evil bitch who doesn't deserve him!

I'm so tired of sneaking around her back! I can't stop talking to him though. I know I'm kind of digging my own grave here, I like him, a lot, but I would never make a move. I deal with the fact that he "loves" her, and I will probably always just be the one to pick up the pieces when she's emotionally and verbally abusing him. He's had just about every friend he has tell him that she is abusive, and he needs to drop her quickly but he "loves" her. I'm sorry, he loves the sex, not her. She puts herself out there, does his every little whim in bed, and then controls his life outside of it.

A girl I know, I'm not even going to say she's my friend anymore, decided to let his girlfriend know that he wanted to have sex with me. I'm sorry, but was she trying to get me killed?!?

All of this boils down (mainly the spreading of the whole desire of me thing) to the reason he can't talk to me. Sorry, for the very long rant, but I had to vent.

Is this the guy you kissed a few weeks ago behind his girlfriend's back (also cheating on your own boyfriend)? 'Cause if it is, I'm sorry you're upset but I don't blame her in the least.

Yeah, it is. I feel bad about it now, and feel totally stupid and used for falling for all of his crap. I realize now that the only times he wanted to be with me is when his relationship wasn't working out. Eventually I will tell him this...

Shit happens. Learn from it and know that everyone fucks up. But don't blame the girl - it sounds like the guy's the one who's been a dick. She's being pretty fair - you're still walking, after all. Asking him not to talk to you isn't unreasonable; in order to rebuild trust, he has tio give her reason to believe she CAN trust him. Staying away from the girl he cheated on her with is a good start.

He sounds like a whiny pussy, hiding behind his girlfriend - the real victim in all this. Find a guy who isn't afraid to be accountable for his own actions.

Actually thank you. Thank you! After all of this, everyone has told me that he is an obnoxious, worthless guy who just leads me around while hiding behind her. It's another bout of not listening to my own advice, because I told someone else the same thing. I just get really stubborn and try to prove everyone wrong.

Well, now that that's settled, I don't know what to do about my parents. Or my entire family for that matter.

I feel resented by them. I'm the oddball, I'm the one that merits weird looks in the mall. I'm picky, I don't look pretty. I would look so much cuter in color. If I took all that black shit off, you'd be very pretty. You're brother might nearly fail every year, but at least he's not a freak like you. No, you can't have strange hair, I might get weird looks because I'm with you.

This is only the start of it. I know they love me, but in a way, I think they feel I'm the problem kid. I've never gotten in big trouble for anything, I have never seen the ISS room, and I'm not well-known by the APs. I dress rather conservatively, just in darker colors. I do want purple, red, blue, you name it, colored hair. I wear black eyeliner and nail-polish. And the only time I actually feel like a freak is when I'm wearing a pink t-shirt and light washed jeans. I just don't feel right.

I can handle the pressure of the outside world. The outside world often thinks I'm cute. But your parents should support you, right? They should accept you, no matter what your quirks. My brother is in middle school, cusses like a trucker most of the time, and is in trouble almost more often than not. But I'm the freak. There's no compromising with them. There's no bribes of good behavior or grades. I've basicly gone along all the lines of Gothic Charm School advice, but they feel that 'people like me' are bad people. I put up with it most of the time, but it seems like I can't do anything right.

In a perfect world, sure. But they're only human. Most kids would change stuff about their parents if they could - common sense suggests that it works both ways. Doesn't mean they don't love you, as you acknowledge. It's tough feeling like a let-down, but if they still let you know they love you then I wouldn't worry about it.

Maybe they don't badger your brother because they know they have no hope of making him get his shit together? If youi look at it that way, it's almost flattering that they see potential in you, and want to see you live up to it - however misguided that might be on their part, and a damn annoyance for you.

Thanks Humane!

And my mom says she always knew the goth kids in high school to be the sluts, the ones on drugs, the complete bitches, and she has a very negative outlook now on anyone who doesn't go for the entire American Eagle besplashed look. I put up with it most of the time, but both my parents just dig and dig. I guess eventually they think I'll crack. Their newest thing is that I'll never get a real job, looking the way I do. I've already told them that I will tone it down for a job, and I'm not going to go to work full gothed out. I understand that that's not a desirable look for most employees. They feel that I absolutely, POSITIVELY cannot dress this way, ever, not on weekends, not on holidays, ever, if I want a decent job. I just sigh most of the time. My nana thinks it's freaking awesome though. She loves the way I dress, lol. So most of the time, she'll back me up.

Seriously, it sounds like our parents are almost clones of each other.
They, especially my mom, would get angry and guilt me and say things like "You're such a beautiful girl! Why do you try to make yourself ugly?" or "What would Grandma think if she saw you with that black eyeliner and those black clothes?" or "You look like... some lady of the night!"
They stopped bugging me though after my psychiatrist blatantly told them to stop... Now we just mince around the subject, which, while it's still not the healthiest thing to do, it's better than getting into wailing fits over it...

Wow. So far my parents just kind of skate around actually insulting me. Other than some of the times they've actually called me a freak. There will probably never be someone to tell them to stop. The last time I said anything to my grandmother about my dad's teasing on some other little thing, she basicly told him to stop it. Now I never hear the end of it, and when he feels like he's losing the battle, he always asks me if I'm 'gonna go tattle to Grandma again'. So it's either stop giving them a reason to bug me, or put up with it. I'm not going to change myself completely for anyone, maybe modify for a job a little bit, but never change completely. Or I can just put up with it. If it gets really bad, I just go into my room, and most of the time they won't follow me.

I feel bad now, lol. I've kind of dominated the Rant thread.

I plan to wear mostly black for as long as I can see, and nothing will change that. I feel like an asshat when I wear more than a splash of colour or white.

You're lucky that you can go to your room to hide. My mom would follow me after a few minutes and continue the discussion, even if I shut myself in my closet and asked her to leave me alone.

Mwaaaaaaa I'm so dumb. I vacuumed my primary eyeliner and now it's gone. *cries* Oh well. At least I have another...

My parents are coming in 45 minutes and my canmate and her boyfriend have been in the bathroom the *entire* time I've been awake, so I haven't been able to shower yet. GRRR!

Yeah, I vacuumed my kohl. I could see it happening, too, but my brain somehow blocked itself from doing anything about it. It's the rez vacuum so I'm DEFINITELY NOT going hunting around in the vacuum bag for it. I don't trust people to only vacuum up sensible things.
