I spent a deal of my own saved up money on organising a party in the function room above a club. Not enough people turned up, as the Northern Irish goff scene don't go out two weekends in a row and the next weekend was Cornucopia.
My boyfriend of the time was amongst those who did make it, though he did so on great protest.
While I was sitting with a friend, catching up and feeling quietly but terribly embarrassed for how quiet the evening was turning out, someone came to get me, with someone else trying to stop them from doing so.
This was because my boyfriend of the time was in the girls' bathrooms, getting a clumsy blowjob from a trannie with all the grace and beauty of a rugby player. The two who were fighting as they approached me were doing so because one felt I should know, and the other felt I shouldn't.

My twenty first had damn well better do better than that.
My 20th was spread over several clubs and my 19th was a little night in with friends. But the 18th remains something by which to judge all future catastrophe against.

On my eighteenth I just arrived in a town on my own, and I had no friends yet. So I went to get some smoothie and get a membership in a DVD rental store. The girl in the DVD rental store is the only person that said "Happy Birthday" to my face. A bit sad, but I think I shouldn't see it like that.

I need suggestions on what to do for my 16th. I live very near San Francisco, so I could do something there, but I'm not sure I want anything too big. There aren't many goths that I'm aquainted with, mostly because within my county there just aren't many goths. I would like to do something with a darker theme, but am worried about alienating my more mundane friends.

Well you don't have to alienate them, the point of a party is to have fun and even if you're doing something with a darker theme, it shouldn't be a bother. Besides if they are you're friends they probably expect it of you ^_^

What did you have in mind for darker theme, anyway?

Well, that's my problem. I have no idea what to do. It's customary for girls to have large, over the top "sweet sixteens" and I do want something memorable, I just don't want to break the bank. And you're right, they would expect it of me by now.

Well I don't really do things for my birthday, usually because its in June, when I was in highschool it was because it was exam time, now its because everyone goes home during the summer.

I'm trying desperately to get people to agree to have a ghost story party, just drink, sit around in the dark and freak each other out with tales of horror. When I lived in a dorm we did that for Halloween and it was awesome. There's also this tour here that takes place three nights of the week, where a group of people will take you around the city telling not just ghost stories but of murders and mysteries.

Other than that all I can picture is a big party with creepy decorations and Christian Death up on blast. Not sure how else to do a dark theme.

I'm quite lousy at creative ideas, raggedyanne, but I might as well try.

What are your preferences, do you want to do it home or in a function room? Do you want to do it during the night? Do you want to do unusual things or just the traditional party? Do you want to make it a bit like a Halloween party or is it too much?

If you want a traditional one, you can do a themed party, like a pirate party, or a punk rock one... Are they lame? I really wouldn't know..

I was in s similar dilema for my 15th. In the end I just had a 'goth party'. I dressed up to the nines and played the music I liked. I said to my friends that they could wear what they wanted, as long as they were there. Most of them turned up dressed up as goths (with hilariously bad make-up).

In the end, if they're your friends, they shouldn't be bothered at whatever the hell you choose to do. After all, it is your birthday.



As for mine however, I think I might cycle up to the big field near my house. Bring a book, some painting equipment and my music player and do what I do best. I had a bit of a mope last night, but I got over it.

Should also give yourself a gift! Like today to congratulate myself on running across town all day doing errands, I treated myself to a visit to our comic book store normally I have to avoid it because I end up splurging.

I hate it that I sent off a resume by email, and as SOON as its sent I realized I typed the name of the company wrong.

It's your party, not theirs.

I mean, don't go out of your way to make them feel uncomfortable, but if they're good friends, they'll let you have your day how you want it.

Stop paying rent, right now. You don't owe her any rent, you gave her plenty of time to find a new roommate, obviously it is her fault that there is not a new roommate. Chances are that she loves having the whole place to herself while still only having to pay part of the rent and until you cut off that money she isn't going to bother finding someone else. She is the type of friend who only takes, without even knowing how to give back. People like this aren't likely to change and she will continue to hurt your relationships, self esteem, and your finances.

I'd stop paying rent, but the apartment I'm staying in now is owned by the same people, as long as my name is on the lease, I'm responsible for it, and I might get evicted from here. And I can't move because the girl I live with is stuck on a lease here!

A friend of mine said he'd take over for me on the lease, so we'll see how this plays out.

Well, the way the apartment buildings work is that if you don't sign a lease, the rent goes up a lot. So since a year ago we were still good friends, we signed a year lease that isn't up until the end of September. Both our names are on the lease, so to get off of it I need for either her to release me from it (not going to happen) or for her to get a new roommate and then I transfer the lease from my name to the new roommate.

I'll make a fuss if she turns him down. We once considered taking him in as a roomie before so there's no reason to turn him down, but what I think she's going to do is keep me on the lease until the end of September then move into one of her boyfriend's houses.

But worse comes to worst, she's out of my life forever at the end of September.

Ah I see, is there anyway that you can pay a fee to get off the lease? I know that the policy at my old complex was that if you wanted to cut off your lease early you had to give a 30 advanced notice and for your last month you had to pay an additional 50% of your part of rent (ex. if you had two people on the lease, your rent was $1000 per month, and you wanted to take one name off the lease then you would have to pay an extra $250). Although I suppose that is a fairly big hassle and has a potential to cause a lot of drama if this will all be settled as of September and may even be taken care of sooner
