The "preppy" guys around here have a terrible penchant for fauxhawks at the moment. They tend to bleach the spikes too. The evolution of which is an actual short mohawk that curves on the x-axis.
Not nice.

At the Gogol Bordello show I went to some kid had an awesome mohawk. I was like "I love you!" but not really of course.
The only person that I know (aka friendly with) that has had a mohawk used elmer's glue.

I prefer to call it a cock hawk, thank you very much.
Cool, didn't know that. Skater cut sounds a lot better, methinks. From the side it looks like a frontwards-going mohawk and from the front like a downwards spike. Once I figure out HOW THE HELL MY SHITTY OLD DIGITAL CAMERA WORKS, I'll take pics.
My little brother had a sort of fauxhawk for a little. Only slightly longer on the top than the sides, looked like shit. I know a 10 year old with a really cool spiked up dyed pink mohawk.

Mohawks are mainly for punks, but, it seems to me that you really don't
have much choice.

Haha! I missed you, Xng! Where were you? Just lurking for a while?
Yeah, Blonde always makes statements on matters that she doesn't know enough about. She almost always sounds completely ignorant.

Here in D.C., I've just recently been seeing hip hop girls with mohawks. I'm wondering if it's going to turn into a huge trend here in the hip hop culture. These girls have full heads of hair, but are corn-rowing the sides of their hair into various design upward toward the center, then the braids end, leaving them with about a 2" wide "hawk" down the middle. All that I have seen have been around 6 or 7" tall. I have not seen any that were dyed any unnatural colors though. I saw three girls like this this week. It actually looks quite cool, in my opinion, but I just don't know how I feel about mohawks becoming popular in the hip hop culture. Maybe I'm just being snooty wanting the mohawk to stay a punk/sometimes goth thing.

Back in 86, a mate of mine (toby) had a black long crimped Mohawk.
During the week it was down, and tied back.
At weekends and nights out, it was crimped, back combed upside down and two large cans of harspray used.
It would stay up for an all night party.

I think people use too elaborate ways to keep their 'hawk up. I have a tube of hair gel and a can of hairspray; both have lasted for about 3 months so far and they ain't nowhere near empty. I just put some gel on slightly wet hair and use the blowdryer to make it stand somewhat up-ish (yep, I'm good at inventing words ). Then just backcomb like crazy and put some heir spray on each segment when it's backcombed enough (blowdrying after applying the hair spray is usually a good idea). When it's all done, some aditional hairspray can sometiems be used if the end result is a bit too unruly.
Last time I did this, I wanted to see how long the 'hawk would last. Two nights I slept with it on my head, with only minor repairs in the morning. It would of probably lasted even longer, but it started getting a bit too messy.
And here's a pic of my deathhawk, back when it was still red (it's black now).

Hairspray, hairspray, hairspray. I once (well, a few times, actually...) slept with a guy who used nothing but hairspray on his moheican, and even if I'd been on top he'd sit up and it'd spring right back into place.
That was TMI, wasn't it? Ahh well. I'm no prude.

hawk and liberties
i used to hav a 5" mohawk, i found the best way to keep it up for a long time was to lie on ur side with ur hair on a plank, then get a frend to paint on sum wood glue, blow dry, and wen its stiff do the same on the other side...now i got liberty spikes...i use cooking gellatine, takes a while, but it does workand if u bleach ur hair u can hav a ifferent colour just by adding food dye. mix it up (not as per instructions) us a little bit of boiling water to alot of the productapply to ur hair, blow dry...and then if ur really serious, glue over it, then blowdry again

I've always wanted a fauxhawk. I've had a friend suggest it to me. Although they're not as cool as mohawks, I think I could convince my dad to let me have a fauxhawk.

Aww, mohawks are cool... I wish I could have one, but then I'd never get to work again in the Opera until I'd grown it out again :P Unfair. *grin*

I'm currently growing my hair out for a deathhawk. I might go Johnny Slut style and bleach the shaved part while keeping the hawk itself, black.

I've seen some great deathhawk styles with the shaved parts grown out slightly and dyed in some really cool patterns - even blue leopard print. Although Mr. Slut's is definitely the classic.

Hey guys and girls, sorry to join the party late.
I was chatting one of the people in the piercing studio and she had lovely spikes protruding from the side of her head. When I asked how you do it, and what you used? She said, she used soap to spike her hair (imperial leather to be precise).
Umm.. just wondering how you'd do it.
I tried experimenting.. didn't work. lol Then again my hair is a bit longer. Anyone want to shed some light? Love to be educated.. ^^

Guy in my college class used to have a mohawk, said he used PVA glue in it because it washed out easily with regular water & shampoo. You might try that? Cheap, tough, and non-toxic.

my brother uses Hair glue, and it works wonders. He put up his mohawk for graduation, and he forgot he had to put his cap on, he ended up having to fold it over, but the cap wouldnt stay on cause his hawk kept popping up, lol.
