Alfie Patten, the boy who was reported to have conceived a child when he was 12 years old, is not the baby's father, DNA tests have shown.
Alfie, now 13, from Eastbourne, in East Sussex, told a national newspaper in February that he believed he had made his 15-year-old girlfriend pregnant.
But the tests have established Tyler Barker, 15 and also from Eastbourne, is the father of Chantelle Stedman's baby.
The results of the DNA tests have been made public following a judge's ruling.
The judgement also reveals that Alfie was "extremely distressed" about the results of the test.
Pictures of Alfie, holding the baby he believed to be his newborn daughter, caused a furore when they were published in the Sun in February and renewed calls for better sex education in Britain.
Politicians were moved to speak out about the case.
Tory leader David Cameron said he found the sight of "children having children" extremely worrying.
And Children's Secretary Ed Balls said it was an "awful" and "unusual" case.

It's still an issue, even if the father of the boy wasn't the then 12 year old.
I hate to agree with soccermoms, but I blame the sexualisation of our time :/
In my time sex didn't exist!!! (obviuos joke is obviuos)

"Extremely distressed?" If that little shit had any brains, he'd be relieved to find out that he's not the father.
Anyway, old news is old.

Then you are just as dumb as they are, the problem is that people deny children, preteens, and teens from information about sex so that sex becomes this thing that you know you aren't supposed to do but that at the same time you know it is supposed to be extremely pleasurable, two things that those age groups gravitate towards, so you are left with people wanting to do something without any idea of the risks involved and any idea how to make it safe. People who receive comprehensive sex education have much lower rates of STDs and unplanned pregnancies, plus their average age to lose their virginity is 16, compared to 12 for those whose sexual education was lacking and since the average age for the general population is 13 I think you can guess which category most people fit into (all of these stats are from the US so they may be a bit different if you are from a different country but the same trend applies to just about all developed nations).

No actually, the open-minded thing is good. Its good to know that sex and co isnt a "sin" which you shouldnt talk about.
What I meant is the sexual tinted scenes in the media. Like those MTV clips where almost naked woman dance like they're having sex. Or with the fashion where girls are forced to be thin. Most of our media today focus on the degrading of woman, just put the tv on and look.

I think it's something in the water. Lately, well where I live, the kids are looking older, younger. I've seen some junior high kids with more face-fuzz than I. At some points I often wonder which kids got held back and which just got pounded by the puberty hammer.
Of course this Alfie kid fits the average description, most likely he did not have any previous knowledge of sex, maybe just kept hearing from older kids or his own chums, as young boys will do, about this wonderful thing all the older kids do called the horizontal monster-mash and got curious. Lo and behold miss Chantelle comes walking by and seems intrigued, perhaps looking to conquer new horizons since her other bf(s) might've been busy that night and lets him proceed with said mommy-daddy dance and BAM, months later a new life is born. Kid thinks he's the daddy, is mentally wrecked, possibly for life, oh but what's this? He's the not the dad after all, turns out she was getting it on with some other teen barely old enough to drive.
People have been blaming the media for everything. Not that there may not be some inkling of truth to any of the over-sexed heresay of modern trends. Just that in the end it comes down to the individual's own judgement and discretion. Of course one would need the basic knowledge before trying to get a good angle on any sexual situation but I guess that falls on the parents. But as anyone who was at one time a teenager will know (I think that's like hmmm...EVERYONE) often a teen's peers may hold slightly more influence over them than their own parents.

You are forgetting the fact, Mr Ruhiel, that the kid was thrilled to be the father. But when it turned out he wasn't, then he got mentally scarred for life.

What pisses me off is that kids who do this already know what the risks are. I had sex ed in fifth grade. By the time I was in ninth grade, pretty much every girl I had class with in fifth grade was pregnant or had a child already.

If you are eight then you should know what a penis is, kids do need the info before they are entertaining the idea of being sexually active and before it just becomes something that they will giggle about and ignore. As I stated above on average kids who receive comprehensive sex ed become sexually active four years later than those who do not and their rates of pregnancies and STDs are far lower. When the average age for people to become sexually active is 13 then you need to start teaching them young because there are kids who are starting way under the average, and yes some of them are under the age of eight by their own choice. Most sex ed at that age focuses on how the body works, including the anatomy of both sexes, what is the shame in that? It isn't like kids aren't learning about sex outside of the classroom, they deserve a reliable source of information and the internet and their peers are far from reliable.

Yeah she should probably know what a penis is, but should she really know what the penis does to make babies and be able to tell me what masterbating is. I know in some ways it makes sense, but I just think 8 is too young to know all of that.

I agree with Solumina. The problem lies with people being prudish and not wanting to talk about sex.
Boy did I know some prudish parents growing up. What's funny is that they didn't have much of a problem with their kids seeing graphic violence in media, but if there was any hint of a sexual situation it was "OH MY GOD TURN IT OFF IT'S TOO MUCH FOR MY KIDS!"

@viscus:
Like that south park episode where everyone is ignoring the shruniken in one kids eye's, but keep scandalising the fact that another boy was nude (he thought he was invisible).
Yup, those are my parents. Die Hard, Predator, Saw and lots of other violent movies were allowed, but eyes needed to be shut when kissing. I remember the good old days where mine and my cousin families gathered and all watched DVDs. Mostly things like Jaws (my uncle loved that movie) Grudge, Scorpion King etc etc.

Yes, yes she should seeing as most kids her age do it, girls more so than boys, mind you it isn't sexual when they do it, they just know that rubbing that spot feels good and they rarely achieve orgasm, they just kind of rub a bit. Hell most kids have publicly masturbated on numerous occasions but they learn not to touch that spot around other people around the age of four.

Kids are naturally curious about their bodies and the bodies of others. The fact that an 8-year-old girl knows what a penis is and what it does really doesn't surprise me, nor do I think it's a bad thing.
I wish someone reliable had explained it all to me when I was younger, even if it had been when I was only 8. Maybe then I wouldn't have felt so weird about it for so many years.

I knew all of that by age 8, and it did me no harm. I think that it is important for children to learn factual information about sex before they reach puberty, as then they will hopefully be less likely to believe the various urban myths surrounding the subject.

sad thing is this happened at the middle school I was at a few year back. She was is sixth grade she was about 12 or so and got pregnant. No one really knew for certain who was the father but her boyfriend was her age. Around where I live this isn't unheard of. It's sad really.
