Well, you have my permission, but I stole the original cartoon from Google and modified it with MS Paint...

How do you "Practice" being Goth? Do you stand in front of the mirror making scary faces all night?
And how can you want to be a wannabe goth? How does that make sense?

Actually, we had some theories...

Because, you know, real goths sacrifice small pets to the Almighty Satan. And also they eat babies. I wonder how you practice eating babies? As a real goth, I never had to practice, I just inherently knew. Maybe you're supposed to eat gummy babies, or something. But I don't think they make those in black, and a real goth would never be seen with something as colorful as gummy babies. So I guess that's not it.
Oh, and real goths call thimselves Satanists because they worship Satan. None of that LaVeyan stuff for us, we just worship pure evil, right, guys?
I know all of this, of course, because I'm a True Goth, and True Goths know everything about Gothicness.
|
What do you think? Do you concur, or do you have additions that I might have missed?

I'm impressed with your Gothness.
You're so dark that you fart bats.

You forgot the part where being a goth automatically means you're immature and not qualified to debate in any shape or form(which is ironic, since a fallacy of that size against someone means there can't be any logical debate to begin with).

Oops-- good point. I did forget that. It's probably because I was too busy jamming to Slipknot.

Pay attention to the "Chronosfire" idiot.
I'm not sure I'm even a goth, I just listen to goth music and occasionally dress in gothy clothes. Either way it's not grounds for an argument.

We can't see it-- Or, anyone who's not a member can't see it. Anyway, we know all about idiots here. Don't worry, I'm not Madame La Ubergoth and nobody here seems to mind... I think you'll be fine, as long as you love these boots.

I do listen to "Proper" goth music though - Bauhaus, Switchblade Symphony, Dead Can Dace, stuff like that. I don't mean that I'm like a "goth lite" that you see hanging I'm more of a newagey type so I appreciate the "depth" that goth rock has.

Ok, so I may have stated in my introduction thread that I'm new to the goth sub-culture, but no way do I think like wanabeegothguy. I may not listen to much goth music, if not hardly any, but I love reading goth literature, I love the fashion of goth, I love dark/goth art (and produce my own to a certain manor) and I seem to always fall for the goth lads. I don't really know where that puts me to be honest.

I don't understand why people just into gothic art/dress etc. wouldn't want to at least try the music, as it generally is meant to be the music that appeals to people who like gothic art/dress, or the other way around.

I'd have to say it puts you in the "Electrolyte" category. Don't worry about labelling yourself. Labelling creates people like this wanabee fucktard.

I think labels are very useful to describe people, what sort of things they like or what kind of people they are. Describing someone as a "goth" who listens to bauhaus who wears black eyeliner and dresses in all kinds of weird clothing wouldn't be very out of place at all.
But it shouldn't work the other way around - you shouldn't worry about being easily describable by other people. It's not your fault.

I don't label my self into a sub-culture or into a "group". I label my self as a unique individual, where no one else would be like me.

Oh, agreed, labels are useful for certain purposes, but a person oughtn't work to fit one, a label ought to have to work to fit the person.

i think of goth as a way of expresing yourself! you don't dress black because all goths do ,cuz if u do that it becomes conformism! you dress black because that's how you are inside. your black eyed because you have been punched in the face by life oh so many times. you make poems as a way to cry. you read to forget the world and your own problems. you love scary animals because they are the only creatures that feel as sad as you cuz they are missinterpreted. goth is not a fashion statement, but a way of life and each and one of us have to say something in our own ways. at least that's how i see it.

Now I'm not picking on you when I say this, I'm just picking on the fact that this is not the first time I've seen this explanation for wearing black, and it still confuses me terribly.
You see black certainly isn't how I am inside. I'm red and purple and gooey, with green tinges here and there, and the layer of fat directly beneath my skin is... why it's bright yellow! Do I lose my goth points now? Or perhaps I should just buy some yellow clothes... you know... to match the lovely lipids. What will be far more stressing, however, is finding clothes to match my brain, since it's a purply-pinky-greeny-off-white colour that I suspect will be quite difficult to find in most clothing stores. There's always the possibility of dying my innards black though. Then I wouldn't have to replace my current wardrobe, and the goth points earned would be phenomenal. I'll do it on the same day I get "Cut Here" tattooed on the inner wall of the left ventricle of my heart
