They don't give a crap about obesity anymore.
Nowadays, we are encouraged to "embrace out body-types", and this leads to being comfortable with obesity.
They are trying to desensitize us to it, even going so far as to call "plus-sizes" "vanity-sizes."

I would certainly hope we don't embrace obesity as okay.
I think with anorexia, it is probably the idea that a controlled person purposefully lost the weight whereas an uncontrolled person gained all of theirs...
Psyche and people like her will tell you such is not the case....some people have a hard time losing...
I think we should not only educate, but look for genetic and physical factors that lead to weight gain and find a solution as well...
we should also try ti figure out what is going on with these crazy body image trends on both ends of the spectrum

It's so contridictory, of course we are going to be confused.
First, in the magazines we've got all the uber skinny women, including on the run ways, and taking over our shopping malls. Then we have all the campagnes that tell you to stay healthy and stay fit! While we have fast food surrounding our general area, and then another group of people saying "it's ok to be fat" and saying how they have overly skinny women and you should be proud of your gutt!
It drives me nutts >< It's not ok to be overweight. Being overweight is BAD for you, being underweight is BAD for you.
But can really stay healthy in this society >_>

As much as I do have a hard time losing weight - I know so many big girls blame their hormones, but I actually have medical proof -I'm not that big. Heavy, yes, but my size is mostly muscle. I inherited a predisposition to big bum and leg muscles from my dad, as well as his broad stature. I won't bitch about it, my mother's build is far less preferable.
What doubly annoyed me was that they didn't take this into consideration. Muscle weighs more than fat, which is why I fall into the borderline morbidly obese category for my height without being physically round. I carry a little fat, but only enough to qualify me as overweight, not obese, which doesn't bother me so long as I'm reasonably fit.
They just saw a big frame and assumed I sat on my arse eating pies.

It is very hard to stay fit in America -- we have so many stresses and pressures, and time constraints...you are right -- fast food is conveinent and fattening but that is all we see primarily. A harried Mom of five who gets off late from work and has to round up the kiddos is gonna stop at KFC -- but if she was given a healthier, fast food option would she take it? I dunno. Alot of what holds us back can be found in the minds of most Americans. I'm from the South and the general consensus is -- screw science. My ancestors ate red meat and potato's and it was good enough for them. They try to blame the "liberal media" for making people afraid of their food -- what they don't realize is science is science, and in some cases, the facts are indisputable. You eat too much of an unhealthy food, you won't be in good shape, I mean, there's a reason our "ancestors" didn't live long...lol

It's easy to stay fit... it's hard to get fit. It took a one-year lifestyle overhaul (every day, one little change) for me to get healthy. And now I help others. It can be done, but it is not quick or painless, and it is not a 3 week commitment- it's a life commitment.
Once you make the changes and get used to the changes, it is easier to say no, or to learn to feel full, and to crave exercise and meditation.
EDIT: And that has little to do with size, and everything to do with where your body will naturally be while following a healthy routine. Some people are naturally a size 2, some a 12- you can be either AND be healthy.
Just don't try to fit into a mold that you were not made for.

Personality is first and I although I like skinny guys, I have dated chubby ones before. The only problem with the skinniness (Haunted, I'm looking at you hurf durf) is that I"m afraid I will break my boy because well...I'm fucking big.
I am dieting though because honestly, I am petite and I have small bones and I am def carrying too much weight. But yea, I hate the buff look on guys.

Ah, Psyche, I have the same issue. I'm only 5"5, but I weigh only a little more than you did then. Problem is, I exercise a lot, and my body has gotten a lot of muscle, especially in my legs, so I'm just heavy.
I don't look fat....when I told my doctor how much I weighed, she made me weigh myself on the scale because she didn't believe me. (Gave me a giggle)
I've also just got a pretty round-shaped body. I could never be thin like the girls on TV because its not suited to my bone structure. I've got hips and the like. (sticks out tongue) But I like my body so the ad industry can....well, you can fill in the blank.
Problem is finding clothes that fit properly....

The coronary will give you a heart attack.
And maybe just a big cheque after you sue Mc Donalds for giving you a coronary.

I believe everyone has the chance to be beautiful. whether you are skinny, Fat, curvaceous...flat as a pancake. It all depends on how well you take care of yourself. The most beautiful woman in the world can be considered ugly if she didn't take care of herself. I believe that getting up in the morning, bothering to put on a nice outfit (doesn't mean it has to be up to date, fashionable or trendy, it just has to match and fit your body type), and make sure your hair and face look nice and taken care of (doesn't mean you have to even wear make up, just make sure you're groomed) You will look nice.

Exactly, Lapin No-one believes me when I say how heavy I am either (I'm heavier than I was at fourteen, but without too much change to my shape). As for clothes that fit... *sighs* ... one day, perhaps, people will realise that curvier ladies don't want to wear tents...

I seriously have curve problems, lol. I have such a big butt that I have to buy pants a size bigger than what I wear so I can squeeze them over my behind. Plus, I'm tall, So I have to buy expensive jeans in order for me to fit them, especially length wise. (mom is giving me a bunch of her jeans pretty soon. We are the same size...but not "mom" jeans, I promise, lol, My mom is one of those "cute, trendy moms", Plus, they will be long enough cause mommy is 5ft11) I am also allot bigger on bottom than I am on top. I can wear a medium on top, whereas I am a 14/16 on bottom. It doesn't help that I have naturally big thighs.

With anorexia: control? Ha. Control is worth shit. Anorexics don't have control, they have their disorder. Control is being able to eat a cheeseburger without running to the treadmill to exercise for 3 hours. Control is being able to eat without slamming yourself against the toilet trying to get it out.
>_>
Sorry.

I think it is more of an issue of perceived control. One of the main reasons why people become anorexic is because they feel as though they are loosing control of their life and their intake of food is something that they and they alone can control. Then they develop the distorted body image and that is when anorexia becomes really harmful.

Hey, you're in NN Solumina? I was born there.
I had a friend who was bulimic. It was not fun to be a part of.

I don't want girls to be sick thin, and that includes not-yet-anorexic-but-will-eventually-produce-problems-delivering a baby.
But still if I look for a girlfriend, she has to have a waist like mine; and I have a pretty tiny waist.

Really? I've only talked to a few anorectics who developed the disorder as a result of trying to control their lives. Most speak of a diet gone wrong.
And most of them also know that they don't have control, but like to pretend that they do. It's easier that way.
