Yay, Beagles! I had two Beagles when I was a kid. They liked to stand on top of their dog house just like Snoopy. Really excellent pets except they do like to bark/howl a lot.
I usually go for names from mythology. For example: Gryphon, Siryn, Beta Geminorum (just called Beta) and Bean Sidhe.
For a Beagle, I could see Odin, Sirius, or Horus for a male or Maia, Freya, or Mina for a female.
My favorite is Phoenix, which would work for either gender. Beagles have a bit of fire in them, and they also have loyalty, persistence and tenacity which makes them come right back with a happy attitude no matter what. My Beagle went through cancer and surgery twice, and never lost her loving disposition.
Two-syllable names do seem to work the best with dogs.

I do indeed like ancient Egyptian mythology. I got a Miniature Pinscher nearly 8 years ago. If I had chosen a male puppy, his name would have been Anubis. That name is particularly suited to a Min Pin because they have sharp noses and big ears.

Very true. I listed Shenti because it not only sounds good it is suited to pretty much every dog just because it means hairy.

I heart naming pets. XD My pets have always had fitting names.. Wicked Joey the devil of a chihuahua, Ducky the kitty named after a character in a book, Charlie the mouse.. named after Charlie Chaplin because she's that damn funny and cute, Bonkerz the kitty named after the cartoon character, Johnny.. named so because hes a whiny little guy, and was being called CryBaby.. which happens to be a Johnny Depp movie...
Just spend a coupla days with your new pup and see what comes about.
 If not.. I like these:
_Male_
Alistair
Casimir
Zanzibar
'Bastian
_Either_
Adrian
Baisley
_Female_
Anastasia
Ophelia
Azura
Ginger

You should name your dogs dumb and dumber psychotic, as they tend to reflect your personality; twice the dumb for the price of one.

My friend wanted to name her dog "Dostoevsky" and nickname it "Dosky". I thought that was a really cute name.
And Shiva, you might not want to name your cat "Pussy"... what if she gets lost and in the middle of the night you have to call her name around your neighborhood? I can just picture it, 3 am and there you are, wandering the streets screaming "PUSSY!!! Where's my PUSSY??" Hah. I'm totally immature.

That's exactly why she want's to call it Pussy. Since she can't have a cat now she instead has a fluffy bag she calls Pussy. She often asks people if they want to pet her pussy....it just sounds bad and when you realize she's talking about a bag it doesn't sound any better.
Yes my sister is the one with the "pervert" tattoo....

Shiva will be 22 the 25th of this month.
Her humor is just...odd.
Kind of morbid/goofy/shocking
Not everybody gets her humor..or just that she's joking at all.
She is funny though
