It seems that somewhere I came across the claim that global warming and the melting of the polar ice caps were projected to climax in 2012, which I find less than appealing even though I live at a high elevation.

On the other hand a pronouncedly atheist friend of mine still places stock in the Mayan calender, which I find to be somewhat contradictory. Atheist yet believing in premoniton perhaps.

I have heard these predictions before. Everybody knew the world would come to an end as soon as the year 2000 came. I heard some theorys about June 6 2006, and nothing happoned there either. Life will continue on as usual after the novelty wears off.

The world is not going to come to an end, not even in the year 2012.
If the world does come to an end (as nothing is eternal and all things must pass) we will not be there to see it, or at least I hope not!
