It could just be the alcohol in me right now, but I hate labels, really. If you like clothing, if you like music-the like it! And dont give a shit what others think and call it or you. I love Hot Topic because that's MY style, as well as others. If posers are gonna shop there and turn it into a poser store then oh well, it's still not MY fault THEY turned into a poser store. If it werent for the "emo's" and "preppies" that shop there I bet you Hot Topic would be 50% more popular with most of you and other people. Ok that's enough of my drunk ranting for now.

I agree that labels suck and I personally do not use them because really, I don't fit into ANYthing. BUT..... if OTHERS wish to use labels, fine by me.

I'm pretty easy-going in my old age.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! That's the funniest post I've ever seen any where.

Any who, as much as I'm loathe to say it, the store is a personal preference. I just wear plain black jeans and plain black long sleeve t-shirts which I can get any where. I can do my whole years shopping and only spend 20 Euros. I much prefer that than Hot Topic.

I have no problemwith the emo subculture. I really can't imagine any reason to want to belong to it, but I can't imagine any reason to want to belong a ski resort, but I don't have some deep-seated hatred and rivalry with skiiers causing me to be cruel to them at every opportunity.
Anyway, I never had a problem with buying with Hot Topic. As far as I've been able to tell, it's about as socially responsible as any clothing group. I don't often anymore, since the shirts they'd occasionally have of bands I like are fading away. I might still buy a pair of pants there, or something, but they're honestly damned expensive for pants I can get cheaper elsewhere, so I don't often purchase them at HT.
I really see no reason for pages of debate on the subject, other than the opening for a song reference I was given, though.

The slim pants I bought were actually from London Thrift Stores currently they're from Black Rose.Uk. I wouldn't really consider EMO even a subculture, more of a slang term that became something trendy in the outcast-underground area or even, occasionally, the mainstream. As a goth who sticks to the roots, I'd find the confusion between it and emo ridiculous. A friend of mine now in high school is always called "emo" just because he wears black. People are stereotyping goth in the worst way ever-by thinking goth and emo are the same thing! I don't have a problem with emos in general, but the purpose I do.

Actually, emo started as "emotional hardcore" in the late 80's with bands like Fugazi. Back then, it was just a little denomination of punk. Now, thanks mostly in part to the artfucking record companies, it's turned into a tag-along little pop-punk brother of goth. I don't have a problem with "emo", I just have a problem with people that live by stereotypes.

I have no idea to what you are referring, mayhap it's an argument I missed. I was just pointing out that it was sort of ironic that in the midst of a thread containing all these cruel and generally abusive misconceptions of Emo, you take the time to point out a minute, semantical error, and nothing more.

That's sick, but what's worse is that kids are (like I mentioned) confusing emo for goth. That may have started from that song the kids are crazy about called "I must be emo"-if there aren't any eariler confusions.

Back when there was an actual mall in my part of town, there used to be a store "London Calling". Oh how I miss that place. Hot Topic is more for people who are new to the whole thing. I personally can't stand the place, but they do have some good earrings once in a while. A friend of mine goes there once in a while and... once in a while... finds a piece of clothing that is half-way decent, and usually on sale, because the usual clientelle probably left it on the rack bacause they didn't know it was something desireable or whatever. So the place can't be all that bad.

I have seen what HT has, some I like and some I don't like. Most times I just see something I like, print out the pic of the outfit and make my own. I have had people asking me if my cargo pants were from HT, I tell em' "No, I made them myself". I got compliments that they looked better than HT. I just love the colored topstitchings on black twill pants or shorts.

HT's peak of decent style was in the late 90's. Of course the 'style' I'm talking about is one that I'm more partial to while others may not agree. I was in an HT last week while in Houston. The only thing that I found worth buying was a $3 Gir car freshener. I sadly found out later that it's vanilla *puke*.

I used to wear alot of looser clothing mostly because I was really selfconscious. I'm still not 100% content with my appearence, but I can't stand wearing clothes that either fit too tight or too loose. Believe it or not, HT used to sell pants that actually fit. None of this Tripp 'bondage' pants stuff. ....Tripp bondage pants... *rolls eyes*. clearly Tripp doesn't know the meaning of the word.
